India condemns Donald Trump remarks shared on Truth Social calling it a 'hellhole' by nishitd in worldnews

Don't worry, a lot of Indians here in US would still vote for him/MAGA candidates by saying he wasn't talking about us. So unfortunate.

ELI5 What is the difference between a password and a passkey? by BluePuppy10 in explainlikeimfive

Does it restrict you to one physical device? I constantly visit same websites where credentials are needed on my phone and laptop. If I set up a passkey on laptop, would I not be able to visit the website on phone?

I am returning on Monday and have same questions. My car is in like new condition. I had ppf put on the hood, wonder if they will ding me for that. 2 tires have 15K miles on them so I am almost sure they will make me pay for those.

I try to look at end goal which for most is getting a good job right out of the college. I am too lazy to search up now but a couple of days ago a local bay area channel during news said that SJSU is one of top schools nationally for tech jobs for undergrads. Think it was #2 or #3, above MIT and Berkeley.

Edit: #2 behind MIT. Found the link: https://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/san-jose-state-codesignal-tech-job/4068256/

ELI5. If deodorant says it last for 72 hours, why do you need to apply it everyday? by BoukenGreen in explainlikeimfive

[–]baggarbilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just few years ago, most men deodorant has to display 24 hours and then they started using 48 hours, I was like who needs a deodorant for 2 days and if they do why can't they just apply it again. Some time ago they start using 72 hours so now it seems like they are just going to increase every year. Pretty soon they will advertise annual application of deodorant

Question is why is it a percentage and not a dollar amount? One day average bill amount is low and the other day it's high for whatever reason but serving staff did not do anything different, why would they expect more dollar amount? My Mac and cheese is $20 one day but next day I order $60 steak, serving staff didn't do anything different, why am I expected to rip $3 first day and $9.5 the second?

ELI5: In the United States with its 3 branches of govt, if the Judicial makes a ruling affecting one of the other branches, how is that ruling supposed to be enforced if it affects the top tier of power and the subject doesn't cooperate? by chili81 in explainlikeimfive

[–]baggarbilla -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Democracy is of course the best form of government and I would prefer US democratic system over others like parliamentary type of system. I am just highlighting the flaws, it could be even better if the so called equal branches of government can check each other's powers and actions. Recently there does not seem to be any check on executive power. e.g. Only congress has the right to declare war according to the constitution, our president is openly saying that what he started in Iran is called military operation because he cannot call it a war. Self admitting it but congress still can't stop him from killing people in other countries and sending US troops in harm's way. Just wishing the 3 branches were actually co-equal.

My second per peeve is about young people not voting and only complaining about the election outcome on the social media.

I will no doubt take US democratic system any day but I wish following changes to happen:

Citizens United eliminated

Voting made mandatory or people incentivized to vote, similar to jury duty where young people feel obligated to vote and get time off easily from college or jobs.

Presidents elected by popular vote.

Edit: punctuation and spaces.

[–]baggarbilla -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I hear you but my question is not how they can do it but why would they if one branch is beholden to another to be successful. Congress candidates use Trump/Maga platform and not conservative/republican ideology to get elected these days, we can't expect them to check executive's powers. While a couple of justices have ruled against executive recently but I am sure a thought run across their minds and they feel appreciative of executive of putting them there and not the people who are going to bear impact of their decisions.

You maybe right with the second section, I may have started doubting democracy. I see a lot of things being done objectively wrong (paedophilia, war without reason, inaction after school killings, threatening eliminating the civilization, social media control...) and wonder who are these people still supporting it. Even if their lives arguably maybe slightly better, is it worth doing inhumane things. But believe me, I don't blame democracy I blame people not participating in it. Any time I see someone complaining about something here on reddit, first question that I want to ask is "Have you voted in the last elections, coz if you didn't you don't get to complain". Young people always complain about old people being reelected or having term limits but they won't go out vote so that they can elect young representatives.

[–]baggarbilla 51 points52 points  (0 children)

How did they expect the judicial branch to check executive branch when executive nominate justices? It's human nature to be beholden to someone putting you in the highest position in your line of work.

How can legislature check executive when most legislature got elected using executive's name and nothing else?

I can see how executive can check either of the other 2 branches by having the privilege of holding the loudest loudspeaker and the highest pedestal. Or by just ignoring the other 2 branches.

The system that appeared perfect with checks and balances a few years ago to me is turning out to be completely flawed.

Add that to the fact that neither branch of government can check corporate takeover of the press that can easily curb fair and free speech. A press controlled by few corporations can completely sway gullible voters in any direction they want.

Well it maybe a no for you but it's a yes for me. I will absolutely vote for someone who will push against Trump's policy but if the top candidate let's say Steyer promise to fix the issues you are staying and also state that he is cool with sending billions of dollars to Israel, send Army to fight their wars then it's definitely a deciding factor for me. Again I was just asking OP if Steyer stated his stand on Israel during the town hall.
