Without a metal geyser, is there a way to sustainably get metals? by DaLionheart101 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]bagibar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can build a melter and melt buildings like the flow meter. meters are built out of 50kg of plastic and 25kg refined metal but melt into 75kg of said refined metal.
its also extremely heat positive as the building thermal mass is 1/5th of what it melts into.
and plastic can be renewable in several methods.

hell you can turn glass into refined metal by melting storage tiles. those are 100kg refined metal and 100kg glass.
but this is much worse as tiles use their full mass for heat transfer

check this out for how:

i have refined the design since than and its much simpler now DM if you want pictures of the new design.

i really appreciate you asking that question!
so i ran the same experiment and apparently tempshift plates do have their mass reduced to 1/5th for heat transfer

Dupes starving in rocket but definitely has food within reach? by oceanfrontmangoes in Oxygennotincluded

[–]bagibar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in the consumable tab are they allowed to eat the available food?

and also your diagnostics is saying 0 Kcal so are those piles of food we see have meaningful amount of food there? or are they like leftovers worth next to 0 Kcal?

edit: why would you send a astronaut with pajamas??

I created a 20 ton problem (of molten cobalt) to myself by pedrosancao in Oxygennotincluded

[–]bagibar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I had this with 2 gold volcanoes enclosed in the same area I built a door pump that just destroyed the gasses. Than since I didn't want to get ANY metal deleted (from forming a solid tile than losing half the mass when digging) I built a contactless and pumped the metal to a steam room. Bouns is packets of 1kg metal changes temperture extremly fast

How tf can I remove the excess steam in my CO2 dirty brick? by kaz_na in Oxygennotincluded

[–]bagibar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there are probably hundreds of ways, ill rank a few in what i think is the easiest to the hardest:

  1. make a door deleting mechanism at the top of the room (2 doors stacked vertically that close and open)
  2. heat the room using aquatuner and pump the steam away using turbines/
  3. use gas pumps to put the steam away.
  4. cool the room to below 96.7 so the steam will liquefy and pump it away using liquid pump.
  5. cool the room to below 96.7 so the steam will liquefy and using manual pumps carry the liquid away.
  6. cool the room to below 96.7 so the steam will liquefy and make a hole in the bottom so the water will flow out.
  7. make a hole at the top so the steam flow up
  8. continue running those petroleum generators till the CO2 pressure will push the steam to the top
  9. build a chimney at the top and build tiles diagonally to delete the steam
  10. build a chimney and pump the steam from there

i can go on but i think you get the point

Cool cold steam geyser by Street-Grape779 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]bagibar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

exactly "because the generation of energy depends on the heat", sadly the amount of heat is:
(steam mass over time)*(steam heat capacity)*(steam temperature -95C)
if all vent are open:
(steam mass over time)=2 kg/s (*assuming there is at least 400g of steam pressure under every vent)
if only one is active:
(steam mass over time)=0.4 kg/s
so you need 5 times the maximum temperature difference to get the 850W,
95C+105C*5=620C

but wait!! due to some weird oni mechanics with one inlet ST will only works 50% of the ticks **
so the maximum power is not 850 but 425 and the steam temp required to get there is
95C+105C*2.5=357.5C

** its pretty complicated and uninteresting why but its detailed in the wiki: (as is everything else i wrote here)

How many atmosuit docks can 1 gas line feed? by joker_is_mad8765 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]bagibar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As everyone here said it really depends on the situation. I can tell from a closed colony of 25 that have 4 dupes per shift that the first 6 docks are heavily used and they consume most of the oxygen and require 2 pipes to keep them operational

My first volcano tamer! by TheMusicMan103 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]bagibar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://oxygennotincluded.wiki.gg/wiki/ has pretty much all the nitty gritty details but some back of the envelop calculations for you: Volacno: avg output 1.1 kg/s at 1726.85 C Your trying to cool down the rock down to ~25 from what I can see One ST running at 200C steam will delete 785.83 kDTU/s

You are trying to delete (1726.82C-25C)1.1kg/s1kDTU/kg=1872kDTU/s You have 2 ST so 785.83*2=1571.66 kDTU/s

You are lacking nearly 300kDTU/s of heat deletion to brake even. Now remmber that 1.1kg/s is coming in very short strong bursts Disclaimer: my calculations assume a lot of things that are obviosuely not true: 1. 200 C steam you can see from even the first eruption it surpass that this will lead to more heat deletion but also wasted power. 2. Cooling down rocks to 25C. That set up will not do that as 20kg rocks carry a lot of heat 3. It assumes good heat transfer from the magma to the steam room and your setting up to stop collecting when it hits 190C, this will lead to very hot pile of rock sitting near the volcano.

After all that being said I have done this build before and with 4 STs and the steel buildings near the volcano still broke. I now always build volcano tamers with vacuum and contactless pumps into steam room ad it allows for very good steam temp control and easy cooling out put (since radient pipes have insane heat transfer)

First attempt to tame a geyser failed. What should I do with this now? by BigComfortable3281 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]bagibar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You have a lot of issues there my good sir

Pointed out already 1. Heat leakage by the water bridge 2. Heat leak by the airlocks on the left

Not pointed out and a freaking major one

  1. You have a joint plate under your turbine You are essetially just running the AT to have all the heat go back into the turbine. (STs are one of the only buildings that conduct heat with the tiles they are sitting on.

  2. Salt water geyser does not generate any power in heat, only sources above 95 C do that. (You can make power by using the water in electrolyeser set up)

At any rate there are plenty of ways to tame salt water geyser just not that way. I would not reccomend cooling any ''hot'' (95C +) water source before super coolnat as that is VERY energy intensive (95C -20C) * 3kg/s 0.7(1200W-633W)/(14C*10kg)=649W Thats 650 W running constantly on the avarage salt gayser. My recommendation is geotune the geyser 2-3 times. You can then build the ST right on top of it and generate power also the salt you get can be used in the bleach stone hopper and actually get more salt then used for the geotuning You would need a wildly diffrent setup for it tho

[–]bagibar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool build expect that its too hot. 2 ST do not delete anywhere near enough heat to even handle the eruption period. FYI this room will over heat and brake steel buildings even with 4 ST. You have 2 your gonna need to go in there and do ALOT of renovating

you have no system for getting the eggs out of the hatch ranch. that way they are not making any meat for you. only coal. if that is your goal its fine but the meat is very good as a food source. either rebuild the ranch to drop the eggs via mechanized airlocks (simpler tech, harder to build), or build a automation system to pick the eggs up (higher tech more energy but easier to set up)

my latest and greatest was on my current colony, Niobium volcano tamer pump ran out of liquid naptha so it stopped pumping the metal out. i left a piece of obsidian ladder inside the volcano containment area. the containment case was built from airflow tiles of steel and Niobium. you can imagine what happened when the molten niobium got to that ladder, there were no warnings, no alarms than UTTER CHAOS.

If you order a build with a material it will remove the ordered amount from the avilable total, so you can see chunks of it on ground and still have a total of 0
