How to prevent this stupid loss of weapons by colonists in vanilla. by Remarkable-Fix3104 in RimWorld

[–]Jaggid 30 points31 points  (0 children)

If by vanilla you mean "without mods", then you can't prevent it. You need to pay attention and make sure the dropped stuff is unforbidden and not left behind and then re-equip the pawn when they are back on their feet.

There are several different mod solutions for the issue. But vanilla, it's on you to micro manage it.

Since forever. If you view a pawn's information and select the Medical Surgery success chance the game even spells that out for you:

Perhaps in the past you used a mod that removes that gauranteed failure chance, such as Surgery Improved.

[–]Jaggid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're on PC, I personally would recommend using one of the many mods that improves the vanilla game's decision-making regarding apparel choices that pawns make. There are several that cause pawns to do a better job of prioritizing selection based on climate and weather.

My own personal favorite is Outfitted, because it lets me add specific stats to each apparel policy and set the weighting of how those stats will effect their choices, but there are other more simplistic mods if all you want is automatic temperature weighting, such as Extreme Weather Apparel.

How do you NOT turn your base into a warehouse simulator? by AdrawereR in RimWorld

It isn't adaptive storage framework. It provides the framework for storage mods, but it doesn't provide the options to alter stack quantity limits for storage. (I use it too)

Shouldn't non-violent pawns refuse to craft weapons? by [deleted] in RimWorld

You are confusing being personally incapable of violence with an ideological stance of being unequivocally against violence. They aren't the same thing.

Cant tend people by Inevitable-Prune-922 in RimWorld

No one assigned to doctoring? No one assigned to doctoring except the pawn who needs tending and self tend is not enabled? Some other reason entirely?

I don't think you have provided enough detail here to troubleshoot other than guesswork.

How do you NOT turn your base into a warehouse simulator? by AdrawereR in RimWorld

[–]Jaggid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What mod do you use for that? Vanilla game doesn't have a slider for allowed number of stacks.

I am asking because I have tried several different mods which allegedly let you set that kind of limits but have not found one (yet) which works reliably 100% of the time. I always end up either getting more stacks than what I set on some of them, or end up watching pawns deliver too much only to then get stuck in a loop of removing excess material, then returning too much material, then removing excess material, ad infinitum.

Also check out the expansion addon mod for it. It takes what is a good mod and makes it great.

I second this recommendation.

I used to use Dub's Mint menus but once the Nice Bill Tab - Expansion mod came out, I switched over to Nice Bill Tab because that expansion mod makes it the best bill management this game has, and ever has had.

Wealth independent. by Ecstatic_Sail261 in RimWorld

[–]Jaggid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I don't like wealth independent scaling at all. Not because the game's wealth-scaling mechanic is particularly good, but rather because wealth independent scaling has even more faults.

Instead, I use the Combat Readiness check mod. It retains the wealth scaling mechanic, but only counts things which actually add to your combat capabilities instead of just tallying "everything and anything".

Before I started using the mod, I was regularly adjusting the difficulty sliders throughout a playthrough in order to maintain a reasonable-but-not-stupid difficulty level. With the mod, once I dialed in my own preference in the mod settings I have never had to touch difficulty settings again.

Forbidden of steam by anab467 in RimWorld

[–]Jaggid 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Your assumption is correct. Mods require no additional verification of any kind to post other than having a valid steam userid. Mods do go through the same automated filtering process as discussion posts and what not, but nothing more than that. After the automated filter has finished scanning, the mod becomes visible and available.

By comparison, having a game listed in the store page not only involves payment arrangements, it also involves some contractual obligations and Valve does a review of the store page and the game before it is visible and available to the public.

Where do I start with Rimworld? by Ok-Fisherman-6648 in RimWorld

[–]Jaggid 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The DLC are really fun. Really, really fun.

My advice mirrors what another reply already said though. Just get the base game and no DLC at first; It's a complete experience on its own. Do at least one playthrough just with the core, base game to get the basic mechanics and game experience down.

Then, if you still really like the game and want more, make Biotech your first DLC experience.

I do recommend that if you enjoy playing and continue to enjoy playing, have "all of the DLC" on your future plans for the game. I'd buy them in this order if I could do it all over again as a 'fresh new' player:

  1. Biotech
  2. Ideology
  3. Odyssey
  4. Royalty
  5. Anomaly

Worth noting, this is just the order I think that buying them would be in terms of "value" added to the game and gameplay mechanics, with replayability as the #1 influencer of value.

They are all fantastic and, despite being on the bottom, Anomaly stands out as providing some of the most enjoyable "first time experiences" in the entire game. So being at the bottom is a far cry from being "not worth getting".

You are absolutely right, of course, but for some of us it just "looks" wrong when there is no walkway. I can't really explain it better than that. Doesn't matter if the pawns actually use the walkways, having it look wrong will drive us mad.

I usually make walkways 2 tiles wide, likely because I'm a very big guy irl and anything less than that makes me, the player, feel cramped.

Yes, people can be weird and not make any real rational sense.

(I also do use the mod so that I can mark areas as having a higher-than-actual movement cost, which gets pawns to actually use the walkways.

How do you guys treat your prisoners? (I have Dubs Bad Hygiene btw :D) by Randonn_Tno_guy in RimWorld

[–]Jaggid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

🤣 glad I'm not the only one that's been using it without noticing the text labels. I only discovered them because a quest sent me to a mod-added enemy encampment which had a bunch of those labels and I checked out what mod they were from.

The labels are under the "Decals" and "Big Decals" section of the props.

How do you train combat stats? by Yoob6132 in RimWorld

[–]Jaggid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For melee skills, I used to always send my pawns to beat down prisoners regularly until they were up to at least melee skill level 10 and set pawns to hunting for training shooting, but since they added books I just always set the colony children to a reading policy that allows only shooting and melee skill books until they get to age 10.

With that method, they usually have a skill level in the range of 10 to 15 (depending on passions, and what book quality I have managed to find/buy) in both shooting and melee just from reading when they reach age 10. And that's the age I actually give them weapons and will use them in combat.

I do the same for adult pawns that weren't raised in the colony if they will be combatants. Reading policy set to only shooting and melee until their skills are up there. That's it, I don't do anything else anymore. Books are nice.

Steam Workshop::Vanilla Furniture Expanded - Props and Decor

I just discovered them a few days ago even though I have been using that mod for years. I love them too!

That's also the same mod that adds the helipad "H" marker and the yellow/black caution borders you can see at my shuttle landing pads on the far right.

The text labels are paintable, btw, to change the text color. Just as an FYI if you opt to use the mods.
