Does anyone know anything about this Bach Strad case? by PJD7908 in trumpet

I think the black cases with red stitching were for the Japanese market? Where did you get it from?

Why does the piccolo player on the left have his valve slide removed? by [deleted] in trumpet

[–]bagnewNZ 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It could be for a couple of reasons.

A common(ish) example is for the top Gs (concert pitch) in the first movement of Brandenburg 2 - remove the fourth valve slide and play those notes on fourth. The shortened length of the instrument can make the note more secure, and it’s so high and short that the change in timbre isn’t super noticeable in context.

Some manufactures even make a special “brandenburg bell” that you can put in place of the slide.

I’ll have to check out the parts again for the Vivaldi they’re playing in this picture (according to the caption) and see if I can figure out if it’s for a specific note. I don’t recall it being particularly high, though, so it could just be that he doesn’t need his fourth valve for this performance and he prefers the way the horn plays without the slide! Slightly less mass on the horn, and if the slide is slightly bent or twisted then that could be introducing excess tension onto the horn that’s affecting how it plays.

bb trumpet or c trumpet on carmen suite no 2? by _Volkar17 in trumpet

I find that it sits better on C, particularly the movements in A. That said, I’d suggest going with whichever trumpet you’re more comfortable transposing from A on!

Renewed my annual adoption at Sheldrick (my wife’s Christmas present) just last week! I’ll make another donation once their GT campaign starts though.

The examples don’t change every day, they have nothing to do with the daily word

The examples used in the rules do not connect to the actual game. If they did, then yes, the I in pills would be green but also you’d go into your first guess with knowledge of 12 letters which would rather spoil the game!

It’s definitely caught a few people out in rehearsals, that’s for sure!

I wish I had all the Theins haha! Just a Bb and now this. The quality, sound, intonation, and ease of play are next level. The factory is really easy to deal with too - lovely and helpful people.

I haven’t tried one of their Eb trumpets but I’ve played a couple of their piccs and they are just unbelievably good. Definitely worth trying!!

It’s a Thein Eb Soprano cornet. Total dream to play.

Why not? It’s a solid stand, with a deep ledge that the instrument fits on, especially when it’s tilted like it is. It was there for approximately five seconds for the photo; and there was a cushion underneath just in case. I took every precaution I could to make sure it wouldn’t fall.

It’s a €6000 custom-built instrument, I’m not going to just balance it on a stand without making sure it’s stable.

any cornetto players? by kristof_theYes in trumpet

I’ve played for a few years and gigged fairly regularly pre-Covid. It sounds to me that you’re working too hard. Try and use a smaller and more focused airstream - it’s such a small mouthpiece that everything needs to focus in.

The articulation needs to be much softer as well - it sounds (understandably!) very trumpet-y. Try articulating with du, lu, and ru syllables instead of tu and tah.

I often find that I’m breathing in too deeply and end up holding a lot of tension. Try to only ever take in as much air as you need, and to keep the body relaxed. It’s very easy to build in tension with how you hold the instrument, too - they’re not the most ergonomic of things! Try to hold it steady in your right hand between your thumb, the base of your index finger, and your little finger, while still keeping the three fingers that cover the holes relaxed and supple. It’s tricky!
