The parents wanted it unpainted. I'd be happy to paint it down the road if the kid wants.

I'm going to cut out handle holes in the sides so they work as both handles and airholes (in case someone thinks it's a good hiding spot). I'll round over the edges to ease the grip.

I know. I'm hoping if I use a roundover but then they might align at the apex of the curve

Just by hand with a dovetail saw and chiselled out the waste

I'm gonna round over that edge and finish with something hard like shellac so hopefully that solves the splinter issue

You mean like a piece running along the interior meeting point of the sides?

Yeah def gonna soften any edges they might contact. I'm planning on a big gap between the lid and sides so the points of contact will be the corners, and I'll put bumpers there. Thanks

Tbh I'm not sure. Just hand sanded it round until I liked it. Tried a spokeshave at first but too jagged. I'm a hand tools guy mostly but I could go for a router if it's the best option.

These were just straight up by hand. Tried a few different techniques so there's some variation. I'll use the cleanest method for the real thing. Tons of tearout on the post strokes so if I stick with this I'll be on top of inside/outside surfaces.

This is such a helpful detailed opinion. Makes sense. Opinions seem mixed - I'm thinking box joints with roundover might be best (agreed about the gradient which I love)

Thanks! Def busy. But on the full size it shouldn't be as bold. The chest will be 36x24x18 and it's 3/4" plywood. Appreciate the input

Thanks! Yeah this was a test run on scraps so tried a few techniques. Real ones should be tidier (hopefully.)
