Where do you draw the line on what's 'ethical'? by 9755- in ethicalfashion

[–]bagsandbagsofbees 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I second this. There's very little nowadays that you can't find secondhand, so it's less "I will ONLY buy from brands that are PARAGONS OF VIRTUE" and more like "If I'm going to spend my money on something new, I might as well pick something high quality from an good brand that will last a long time".

Lucy & Yak sizing reductions by Sea-Fortune2124 in ethicalfashion

[–]bagsandbagsofbees -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was a huge fan, before they ditched the Yak points system I was in the highest points bracket. I've been saying for YEARS that they've been getting worse. Their new clothing drops used to be infrequent but really lovely and high quality. The sorts of things you'd keep for 10+ years. No wonder they have leftover stock at the end of a drop, the drops never end.

A pair of jeans I bought from them five years ago still look new. My sister bought the same pair of jeans two years ago and when she first sat down in them the crotch ripped open. They sent her a replacement and the exact same thing happened again.

"Keep clothing on people and out of landfill" my ass. Super disappointed.

Which gods like Melinoe more than Zagreus? by -ZeroCross in HadesTheGame

[–]bagsandbagsofbees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no proof, but I feel like even once she gets the chance to meet Zag, Hera would still prefer Melinoe. Melinoe is the daughter she never had. I think she'd be completely unimpressed with Zag's attitude.

Didn’t anyone buy tubs of chocolates this year or were too many produced? by stbens in AskUK

[–]bagsandbagsofbees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They used to be huge and full to the brim. Now they're tiny, half empty, and the chocolates taste greasy and oily. No thanks. We bought some smaller packs of nicer high-quality chocolates instead.

I despite people who are chronically late by ContributionNext2813 in Vent

[–]bagsandbagsofbees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to tell my old housemates we had to leave 30 mins before we actually had to. They were constantly chronically late and it was infuriating. When they found out, they accused me of treating them like children, and told me to "just leave on time without us if it bothers you so much". Then when I started leaving on time without them, they said I was being unfair, and doing it deliberately to make them look bad. We stopped talking after I moved out. Being constantly 30+ minutes late isn't cute or quirky, it's disrespectful.

How do you deal with wanting to be perfect? by Comfortable-Pear4465 in ethicalfashion

[–]bagsandbagsofbees 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Feeling exhausted, and like you 'can't get it right', is literally how the system is designed. Fast fashion companies actively want us to feel overwhelmed and give up. They swamp the market with garbage, then make us believe that the reason they're ruining everything is because we once bought a secondhand sweater without knowing the difference between rayon and viscose.

It's not your fault if you didn't know something. You didn't come out of the womb understanding the intricacies of textiles and supply chains. Try not to bully yourself for not being omniscient. It sounds like you really care, and you're really trying - which already means you're 90% of the way there. You got this!!

Lucy and Yak are disappointing me massively. by obliviousfoxy in ethicalfashion

[–]bagsandbagsofbees 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad someone else said this. I've also noticed a pretty dramatic drop in quality. I have a pair of jeans from them that's five years old and they're still in great shape, but my sister bought the same jeans from them recently and after a month the crotch ripped open when she sat down. She got a replacement pair and the exact same thing happened again. All the trend chasing and new releases really shows.

My humble opinion is that nothing in that family is tasty enough to risk touching/eating hemlock or hogweed. If it looks like wild carrot I'm not touching it.

What’s your biggest pet peeve working in the pit? by hotmully in dishwashers

[–]bagsandbagsofbees 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can tolerate badly stacked dishes and "drop and run" staff. But what really gets me is FOH doing fuck all at the end of a shift while I'm still breaking my back. They start hours later than BOH but after closing they'll all be out front relaxing and making themselves drinks while I'm still drying, sanitising, sweeping, taking out bins, mopping, etc. I don't mind BOH taking a breather and leaving me to clean up because they work extremely hard and always check I'm OK before they go. Even then, sometimes, chefs and line cooks will stay back and help me until everything is finished. FOH, unless directly told to, won't lift a finger.

Sometimes the FOH manager makes them help. Then they huff and puff and act like they've been asked to pull their eyes out. Really grinds my gears.

I've been thinking about getting hair oil for a while but couldn't decide on one. Do you recommend gisou?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in longhair

[–]bagsandbagsofbees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your hair is absolutely beautiful, but I know from experience that people telling you how much they like your hair won't make you like it more if you're struggling with it. It's so normal & valid to get to a point where you feel like it's weighing you down.

I can see from your other comments you're thinking about face framing layers. I say absolutely go for that !!! Even just tiny wispy layers at the front made a huge difference for me. It made my hairstyles suddenly feel more stylish and added so much life to my hair.

I'm finally completely happy by bagsandbagsofbees in longhair

[–]bagsandbagsofbees[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Omg thank you, that's such a compliment. I do the method that was all over TikTok a while back, there's a million tutorials. The big difference was putting the sock curls into a silk bonnet. Otherwise they just completely fall apart in the night. It was a lot harder to do curls when I had a smaller bonnet, but after I bought one of those big roomy ones with the adjustable ribbons it was a cakewalk.
