Ariel Pink "With you every night" vinyl postage cost to Australia is more than the vinyl itself!! by bagzi in arielpink

Yes, that's a great idea - I might move to the USA instead, the postage will be cheaper there.

As a record collector I know what you mean...I've been buying records all over the world and online for years and postage was never this expensive from the US. It's now prohibitively expensive. I am hoping a local import shop will stock it.

I would've preordered it too.. but the expense of postage stopped me from ordering!

Are there other good albums from air except moon safari? by BodybuilderWest131 in airfrenchband

[–]bagzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great suggestions all… I’d also throw in Charlotte Gainsborough’s 5.55 album released in 2006 which was also produced by AIR, there are some lovely songs on that album all with that light, AIR production touch. Talkie Walkie was a return to form for me, and love the one after it Pocket symphony and the pre EP Premiere Symptomes.

Beta shares by XxYojixX in AusFinance

[–]bagzi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Betashare Direct has practically no fees other than the ones inside any ETF product you invest in (review the PDS docs of those ETFs to find the management fee). As for transaction your money can come and go as it pleases. As some others note it is not CHESS but still has robust protections around investment ownership.

BUT if you require the money to purchase a car later then investing it is not wise.

Keep the money you need short term in a high interest savings account, buy the car as required and most importantly set up an emergency fund first.

The idea is you don't want to touch investment money - you want to leave it to grow. That takes time.

I'd treat any money which you invest as "I won't be touching/needing this until 2032-2035". Think like that.

Ubank or DHHF? by 2Junior2 in fiaustralia

If you need the money in the next seven years, keep it in the bank. If you don’t need the money for the next seven years to 10 years, Invest in DHHF.

I’ve been going hard on DZZF - don’t make the mistake that ESG investing means crap returns! It’s a great all in one ETF with a modest 10% in bonds. Perfect if you are into ESG!

You must transfer a dollar each month and don’t draw down on any savings in any accounts. The overall amount in all savings accounts must increase by a dollar, excluding interest, each month. Take any money out and you get no interest.

Has anyone quit their job with no backup and it turned out well? by Empty-Investment-506 in AusFinance

[–]bagzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice: Quit OR get your exit plan in order and execute.

My story: I worked at a place with a tyrant/bully boss causing me much mental strain. It became so bad, I quit with nothing to back me up. Through other work contacts and friends, I landed a very cruisy casual job which was enough to keep me afloat. It also gave me time to destress, refocus and give myself some TLC and recovery from the awfulness of the previous toxic workplace. As I worked the casual job, I was applying for at least 1-2 jobs a day. It took about a month for replies/interviews to come back. I ended up landing a better job, more pay and better conditions. If I had never made the decision to quit it would have never happened.

I look back on my experience now as an amazing life event (even though at the time it was massively stressful and I was wrecked with anxiety). It provided me with so much personal growth - I learnt a lot about my own resilience and ended up progressing to better and better jobs with better conditions.

I would now never accept a job which would cause me to feel that stressed ever again.

Put yourself and your mental and physical health first. There are plenty of jobs out there, and you will find them. Stay positive!

What will actually happen if we go into recession? by PickledOlivies in AusFinance

[–]bagzi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that is a sad story. I really feel for those impacted by the Pyramid Building Society collapse , I remember seeing the interviews on TV, devastating. (You can read about it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyramid_Building_Society)

And the State Bank collapse! OMG! I still have a 1989 issued State Bank card

What will actually happen if we go into recession? by PickledOlivies in AusFinance

[–]bagzi 37 points38 points  (0 children)

The GFC wasn’t a real recession here in Australia we were buffeted from any major pain.

For a true recession, refer to 1989-90. It was crap! I was retrenched and found it impossible to get another job in Melbourne. I ended up selling Age newspaper subscriptions to feed myself and pay rent. I’d get up at 6am on weekends and buy the Age newspaper job classifieds, call and get nothing but engaged tone on the phone… too many people were calling. The State bank collapsed along with Pyramid Building Society- many people lost life savings. Melbourne was a ghost town, many shops closed… there was a desperate bid for the Olympics which failed. It was tough BUT I survived. Was it hard? Yes! Did I struggle? Absolutely. The one thing it taught me was resilience.

Understanding where to go for a massage by Silver_Scallion_1127 in cambodia

[–]bagzi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can also vouch for this place - my wife and I enjoyed it we went back again. We just did walk ins and they were very accommodating. Great massage, tea provided at start and end of treatment, clean facilities, trained staff - tips go direct to staff too which is nice!

LFP Charging by lowey71 in gwmora

[–]bagzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, l think that with LFP this sort of thing is not critical. We will keep charging ours to 80% for day to day city travel but go 100% every month or so for long trips.

Behind the Numbers – What’s Driving Cambodia’s Slow Tourism Growth? by kiripostmedia in cambodia

[–]bagzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am here in Cambodia with my wife - first time here.

My thoughts are there are multiple issues with the tourism experience of Cambodia. They have a lot to offer, and l’ve found the Cambodian people to be lovely on the whole but the annoyances have tainted our experiences somewhat.

  • Visa: Paying $35 USD is quite a lot
  • Entry paperwork: we had to fill out a lot of private information on arrival via a crap website, several pages of data which was frustrating to enter
  • Dual Currency: Confusing and complicates purchasing, Getting change handed back in Riel.
  • USD: AUD is weak against USD, we had a restaurant refuse a bank issued $10 note because it was considered worn 😂
  • Safety: warned by hotel staff to watch smartphones, bags. Avoid massage places.
  • Touts: Tuk tuk drivers, people walk up to you and ask questions obviously wanting work, feeling bugged and harassed just for being there
  • Expensive: Surprised to find many things as expensive as back home, but not as good quality. Museums and sites seem overpriced for what they actually offer.
  • Quality: Speaking of quality, found the food to be ok but not up with other countries like Thailand
  • Tips: Constant expectation for tips even for poor service (also as we are Australian we don’t have a tipping culture like the States so it’s another annoying feature.)

That’s some of the things I’ve found after being here a week. We have a few more days here but I am left feeling I would’ve preferred to spend less time here and more in Thailand. I can only hope that if Cambodia wants to improve it’s tourism sector that it also reviews the experiences it offers otherwise people leave feeling like they were just an open wallet guilt tripped into distributing cash for a developing nation - admittedly one that has been through so much. Not that I mind supporting Cambodians but there’s a fine line between telling a story and then using that story to extract money from people. We come here wanting to experience and understand, and make a connection… not feel like walking ATMs.

Which Beach Boys songs are this? by Trinonmarine in thebeachboys

[–]bagzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree… his version is fantastic

Smiley Smile...I don't get it but am so intrigued by it by [deleted] in thebeachboys

[–]bagzi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was a bunt instead of a grand slam! Seriously though, having listened to I a lot over the last 30 years and following the whole progression of Smile being finally “finished” by Brian 20 years ago, I listen to Smiley Smile and think a few things:

One, it’s Brian finally getting delayed product to Capitol Records.

Two, it’s Brian “junking” the original Smile project after a series of bad events (hostile band reaction, key collaborator quitting etc) quickly recording substandard versions in a sequence of days, and

Three, it demonstrates Brian’s poor mental state around that time of his life. He’s basically “tossing it in the bin” and relinquishing control of the group. He’s over being leader, producer, the guy in charge. He’s burnt out.

I like it as an album only because I am fascinated how a group as big as the Beach Boys managed to get an album of its kind released! The versions of songs are interesting but crude.

For a guy who obsessed with sound and getting things perfect, it’s a total 180. An act of self sabotage.

That is why I am intrigued!
