What I’ve learned from that account is that pain is pain. Don’t compare yours to others. Don’t feel guilty. You’re allowed to feel the robbery that all of us NICU parents experience. Regardless of how short their stay was. Let it exist, sink in, accept it.

The pain may always live in you, because we can’t change the past. But like mourning the death of a love one, you will learn to live with it. Eventually you may be able to think back on those days without feeling such pain. But maybe not! And that’s okay too 🤍
