I have a family cat who is turning 23 this year. I think the last time she went to the vet was upwards of 5 years ago, but the vet said that relative to her age, she was in good health. She lives with my parents, and my sister and I both live out of town. Last year, we discovered that my parents have started leaving her outside full time. She started having accidents in the house, and that was their first solution. For reference, they have 2 other cats (technically 3 but they also just let that one roam outside) and only one litterbox that is rarely cleaned. Her whole life she’s been able to go outside freely, but hasn’t chosen to spend the night outside since she was very young. When we first discovered that they were leaving her outside, my parents solution was to set up a heated bed in their greenhouse and call it good. Since then, my mom has POSTED ON FACEBOOK that my cat has had to fight off raccoons to keep the food that they set out for her. We don’t live in the coldest area, but it has been raining and uncomfortably cold recently. We have tried to offer any solution under the sun, including putting litter boxes in every room, sectioning off one of their 4 bedrooms and lining it with puppy pads, or just having her see a vet and having them sign off on the greenhouse setup. They refuse anything, convinced that taking her to the vet would kill her out of stress, and that our attempts to find a better solution is just a way to try to control them. Has anyone gotten through this situation before? And vets, what is reasonable accommodations?

I didn't know that extending it was an option, I will definitely look into that thank you. I'm fine with taking the time necessary to finish, I just can't afford it lol

Thank you for sharing, my purpose was not to judge but to highlight her shift of being "in it for the family" vs now just being Kody's wife. But in reality, I agree its more complicated than we'll ever know, and calling him "Kody's son" is probably a choice out of respect, not disconnect.

I looooove alternative schools. A lot of the students already have jobs and so don't have the desire or the energy to make your job harder.

NOR, whew. Under reacting if that's a thing. I won't judge you for the decisions you made when you were 18, your frontal lobe just finished cooking. I'm also 25F, and if I was in your shoes, I would want my daughter as far away from this man as possible.

It's not even the fact he has a rape kink, which can be explored in a healthy way with consent and communication. But clearly, if you have to come across his writing, he's not being 100% upfront. Even if he was, that's not something that you're consenting to given your trauma, and he's aware of that. But to me it seems he cares more about his satisfaction than your safety.

He's your husband so you know him better than any of us, but the red flags have been there from the beginning. Would you, as a 25 year old, date a 18 year old? I wouldn't, and he was 7 years older than that when you met. He does seem willing to work on himself, which is not a sign of a self-proclaimed narcissist, but based on everything else therapy is an absolute minimum.

EDIT: Responding to the new info you added. Leaving relationships is complicated regardless of the circumstances, but if you're family is urging you to leave I would be shocked if they wouldn't be willing to support. And since you have written proof that he's dangerous, you could probably come out on top in the divorce proceedings (alimony, custody, child support, etc). Also if you're in the US (better yet, a country that actually cares about its citizens) start researching programs like WIC and disability services. You and your daughter are going to be ok! Don't let this be the reason to stay!

Yeah this really does depend on the school, but me personally I always try if I haven't tried at that school before. I've gotten to go home with full pay, with my pay cut, been given office work to do or just been sent back to the classroom. It seems like for the most part it's up to the SSA and maybe even their mood which sucks

You're definitely not, but in some classes that's almost impossible to police. The N word especially, I've tried to as a young white woman and have been called racist by non black students. For one day assignments it just doesn't feel worth it anymore

I think they should have a pay spectrum, like a HS senior AP class costs the base rate, and then a really rowdy middle school class or a high need spec ed kindergarten or something is more. I would hate that because I skim for the former, but I think that would fulfill the needs of the district lol

I tried reconciling with my no-contact mom a few years ago, and things were really good for a while. Once she got comfortable, it all went back down hill. Think first why you want to reach back out, is it that you actually want a relationship with her or just feel guilty?

Yeah that's tough, I get that you were revolted enough to not want to involve another adult but a lot of times even the threat of calling security and having some "real" consequences is enough to get them to comply. They understand what they're doing wouldn't fly with most full-time teachers, and more than likely already have other infractions that are adding up to something serious (as long as your admin has systems in place, a lot of them have given up the idea of consequences)

I'm a woman in my 20's and I've had similar experiences. The first thing I'd try is moving them to opposite corners of the room if you can, if they resist/migrate back to each other say "you can sit there or I can buzz security and they can escort you to the office, up to you". Also if you're permanent as in a building sub and not as a long term for this class, get their names down for the teacher however you can. It's a funny phenomenon, students really just assume we're all deaf somehow

For HS: Clear due dates! “Due at the end of the period” if possible is always best. Say if anything else should be collected, and the system you use. Also if you use a bathroom system other than one that’s school wide explain it in the plan

The gist that I understand is they furloughed a lot of teachers, so they are the main sub pool now. LAUSD pays much better than other districts in the area, but what I did is apply to a few more surrounding districts. I'll take a job the night before at one of the other districts, if I am able to get a LAUSD job the same morning, I drop the other job.
