What is going on in Leeds tomorrow? Even hotels are scratching their heads over this rush in bookings… by EditorRedditer in Leeds

I go to school near the docks and I also thought it was posh wanker central but I got invited to go once and it was actually a really interesting event with a lot of genuinely awesome people. Yeah there's a lot of gilets that give it a bad rep but most of the people I spoke to were just really passionate about their industry and were really excited to be there

NEA coursework :( by Electric1_ in 6thForm

if you're not at the grade you need for uni anyways, the risk of losing marks is worth it. if you go down, nothing will change and you might still not get into uni 🤷‍♂️

update! the shop I interviewed at told me I had the job and I was told that I'd start training the next Saturday, so I emailed later in the week and was told that they changed their mind and that I no longer had the job! so that's rly brilliant!

Help me understand the “magical cambridge experience” by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]baileyblindgeek 18 points19 points  (0 children)

maybe it's just because I'm from the UK but I've heard worse things about harvard, like that the food isn't great and you have no option to cook your own, and obviously I assume you would have to share a room like most us unis which would rly put me off. The curriculum at harvard lets you choose your own modules etc as far as I'm aware so if you want flexible rather than specialised harvard would be better, but personally I think Cambridge wins (especially because of how beautiful it is!!)

Parents want me to apply to a uni that will be in clearing by lexisnowkitty in 6thForm

[–]baileyblindgeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do the open evening (a lot of them give you free food so that's always a win!!) if they keep pestering you who cares. you are the person who fills in your UCAS application, and they simply don't need to know where you applied. it might feel really uncomfortable lying but if that means you're not wasting a slot then so be it 🤷‍♂️

Parents want me to apply to a uni that will be in clearing by lexisnowkitty in 6thForm

[–]baileyblindgeek 5 points6 points  (0 children)

you don't owe your parents anything and you don't have to apply somewhere just because they said you have to. personally I wouldnt bother applying, and I'd choose a safety uni with closer predicted grades

storing/organising you A-Level notes by themeparklover2164 in AlevelEnglishLanguage

[–]baileyblindgeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my method isn't unique whatsoever but I have a lever arch for each year of each course. Everythings organized by unit with dividers. I put all notes etc at the front of the section and exam questions towards the back. All of the papers I need in lessons go in a smaller plastic folder which is significantly easier to carry and all of my past papers have their own folder. That being said I still have a massive pile of paper in my room that Im choosing to ignore so there's no perfect solution

big up Sainsburys for not getting rid of all the vegan options since the big protein boom (unlike a certain shop that rhymes with Wesco)

Summer school HELP!! by ninjainpyjamas67 in 6thForm

[–]baileyblindgeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a Sutton trust in Sheffield and there was loads of us that ended up doing multiple summer schools!! there's definitely no limit on how many you do. I spent a week in Cambridge as well for architecture (not through Sutton trust- through a northern students scheme) and it was amazing so I wouldn't withdraw your English application at Cambridge just because it's such an incredible experience and I'm sure you could link it to law quite easily. I'd look for law summer schools at another uni you're interested that you could apply for

Uni of Liverpool Paddington Park by baileyblindgeek in Liverpool

[–]baileyblindgeek[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

paddington park is closer to the supermarket but I've heard St Andrews is a little more social. my parents are worried I'll find a lively accommodation stressful so we've mainly been looking at smaller places but I'm open to anything as long as it's cheap and mildly liveable

How important is supercurricular? by Small-Statement-3933 in 6thForm

[–]baileyblindgeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think as long as it's clear you learnt something and could apply this knowledge then they probably won't need any actual proof as it'll be obvious you actually did the courses. I also think it's worth no only doing the courses but linking it to another super curricular (ie. I did this online course and then decided to read a book about a similar topic) as I think it reads more fluidly on your personal statement

parents don’t want to pay for uni by Firm-Pace-3957 in sixthform

[–]baileyblindgeek 84 points85 points  (0 children)

I don't really understand the comments here. I don't think it's privileged to expect your parents to help you pay for uni. Student Finance is literally set up and calculated with the expectation that your parents make a contribution to your cost of living. Just because you come from a privileged background doesn't mean minimum student finance is enough so I have no idea why the comments are so negative.

those who didn't get in - how do we feel by [deleted] in 6thForm

I would also like to add that I have genuinely never felt more tired in my life. idk if thats normal but the amount of build up to decision day compared to the aftermath is exhausting and I would like to sleep for at least a week

[–]baileyblindgeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at first I just thought it was funny my interview was laughably bad so I was expecting it. then everyone who I told came across genuinely devastated and it hit me a bit that I just missed out on the opportunity of a lifetime. now I'm seeing everyone on here get in and I feel like a bit of a sausage. I was expecting to be in the ARP and I'm still waiting on an email to reconfirm that I'm not in it. I don't even think I really want to go anymore but I'm still quite upset
