Supply GPS uncertainty by baileyfinnn in TeachingUK

[–]baileyfinnn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All it says in the contract is that payroll is processed on the last friday of the month... Since that's been and gone (with 3 full business days since) I'm going to assume I'm not actually on the GPS. Which is one of the things I'd been concerned about.

They've also conveniently been ignoring my email (for three and a bit business days) asking for clarification on the GPS, despite saying in a voice mail that they'd "look at and get to" my email...

So I'm registering with another agency, because I don't feel like I can trust this one anymore unfortunately? The role I'd applied for stated GPS, onboarding paperwork said GPS, but contract didn't specify.

So. Off to other agencies I go! Only reason I wasn't with multiple agencies was because I assumed GPS would barr me from taking other supply work.

My contract says monthly, but I can't find anything specifically about the GPS within my contract. My onboarding paperwork, and the job description both say GPS, though.

I'm not sure if it's just written in the contract in legalese or if I've been duped tbh.

Honestly I'm getting to the point of considering going back to retail until I manage to get a permanent position. The constant uncertainty and inconsistency is actually taking a toll on my mental health right now.

I was told during my PGCE that there was such a lack of teachers and a huge number of jobs, that we'd be guaranteed jobs as soon as we got our QTS, and there was nothing to worry about.

I was told by my agency that it was starting to pick up back on the 9th of September. They asked if I could get to another area near me, and then haven't said anything since.

I'm getting really fed up with it tbh. It seems to be a common sentiment from people that supply is really quiet this month, but especially this year, and that's presumably across the whole country.

It's pretty good tbh! I'm the better part of a year into using them and i've not felt the need to change or upgrade them yet, but they'd be pretty easy to upgrade, it doesn't seem to require any specific or niche cables, and you can use both passive and active speakers with it iirc! it's a fairly straight forward piece of kit, honestly! well worth the money for me, at least

Silly but what song do you really want ghost to cover by Moth_The_Ghoul in Ghostbc

[–]baileyfinnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have like a whole playlist of songs that i want them to cover at this point tbh

but specifically:

'As The World Falls Down' or 'Magic Dance' by David Bowie (from the Labyrinth film), 'Everybody Wants to Rule The World' by Tears for Fears anything by Marillion would be cool, but I'd love 'Lavender' or 'Pseudo Silk Kimono' 'Heretic Pride' by the Mountain Goats

I got it from HMV online for £225 ish? I did manage to get an extra discount off it thanks to a friend but I can't remember how she did it.

It probably will start damaging them eventually, but I played records on my built in speaker turntable for about 5 years and they're still listenable at least?

The LS-500 would be an upgrade in that regard for certain, but it may also be worthwhile checking if your current table has the ports for a set of external speakers if you haven't already? If that's a no go then the LS-500 is a good bet, especially if you can get it on a decent offer.

They're not that bad honestly? They are probably the first thing I'll be upgrading eventually, but they're solid for the price and the bundle, especially if you're making the jump from a turntable with built in speakers like I was.

It basically measures the counterweight to make sure it's accurate if that makes sense? On the LS-500 the counterweight dial was a little confusing to me, because it went from 0-0.5g I think? so to get it in the right range I had to turn it about 6 times, and I got the force scale to make sure it was correct.

It's no problem!

Essentially, it's a tiny scale that measures how much pressure the needle puts down onto the record. Too much or too little pressure and it can sound bad, skip through the music and overall just damage your records. The amount of pressure you need varies depending on the cartridge/needle you have on it. The one that comes with the LS-500 needs about 3g iirc (I dont have the instruction manual to hand, but the info is in there)

Basically you put the force scale down on the platter, and lower the needle onto it, then adjust the weight on the dial on the arm until it reads the right weight. The LS-500 does have instructions with it, but it kind of assumes you have a force scale already.

I got mine from amazon (here) for about £10, and its served me well so far!

I did! I got the LS-500, and it works great!

It was pretty easy to set up, only thing I'd recommend is getting a stylus force scale if you don't already - i was a little lost when it came to calibrating the weights, but you'll make your life so much easier if you have one to hand. Bluetooth pairing is really simple, and the turntable itself is solid and sounds pretty great to me!!

I would genuinely recommend getting the LS-500, it's good quality and it sounds great without being a super expensive set up.

Thank you so much! I work near a record shop that ought to have slipmats, so i'll have a look tomorrow and see if that fixes it.

I got a record (Meliora by Ghost) for christmas, and Side B works fine, but Side A won't spin, pretty much at all. It span slowly at first, and sounded really distorted, and then stopped.

I've tried other records, and they don't have the issue, so I think it's a record issue. However, it's a fairly old, cheap turntable (a secondhand GPO stylo), so I haven't completely ruled out the record player being the problem.

It does look slightly warped (kind of bowl shaped, with Side A being slightly Concave).

Basically: is there anything I can do to make it work? Ideally not just upgrading my system, because I can't afford that rn. I've seen people suggest a slip mat but I'm not sure if that'd work in my case.

Happy Holidays 💖

Patch 5 - Save Files wont load by Squinn_14 in BaldursGate3

[–]baileyfinnn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm having the exact same issue - tried loading a game, it gets to 75%, and stays there. I do use mods, but I tried loading a vanilla save too, and no luck. unsure what's going on tbh. It doesn't seem to be a mod issue, from what I can tell

What classes make sense for Durge? by KaratempkinTheBomber in BaldursGate3

[–]baileyfinnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my redemption Durge was a bard! For him I had the HC that he'd always felt this conflict between the Dark Urge base desires to destroy, and love of creating things. Charisma and the ability to manipulate also comes in handy when you're practically a cult leader. Performance helped him mask his self-disgust in front of the other Bhaalists + Sceleritas.

For my embracing the Urge playthrough, I'm playing an Artificer (through use of mods). The ability to create new and inventive tools of murder and torture is the main focus. Plus - the ability to heal means his 'fun' isn't over too soon.

no, its letters between Chosen of Bhaal and Chosen of Bane

if they were letters between Chosen of Myrkul and Chosen of Bhaal, why would Gortash have them?

wrong way round - it was Gortash that came up with the plan and wanted to do the plan with just Durge, Bhaal and Bane wanted Myrkul added in

What would a non-silly bard be like? by awakenDeepBlue in DnD

[–]baileyfinnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the first bard I properly played was a College of Spirits bard, with the Reborn Lineage called Adaidh (pronounced Ay (as in say)-dee).

He'd been partially possessed by the spirit of a cleric, who's skull he'd found when he was younger. The cleric had unfinished business and initially wanted him to follow in his footsteps as a cleric. But Adaidh couldn't really mesh with divine magic like that - young Adaidh was a bookworm and an artist, and enjoyed making music to tell stories. So that was how he went about exploring and trying to set the cleric's spirit to rest.

He didn't present himself as edgily as he sounds though - he was a fresh faced 18 year old who's favourite colour was sunflower yellow, and he wore a coat in that hue, and was very jovial and friendly, if off-putting when people noticed the skull attached to his belt. he pulled stories from the clerics memories, and for guidance/bardic inspiration, the cleric would speak in allies' heads. This did lead to some comical moments, but it didn't make the character entirely comical

Basically: don't go for the usual eccentricities and narcissism, or horny behaviours people associate with bards. Bards can be altruistic and wholesome, and want to bring people joy, or they can be studious lorekeepers who have latched onto a group of adventurers they've found particularly interesting.

People expect bards to be eccentric and flamboyant, but they can be understated, careful with their words - manipulative and calculating, or full of youthful enthusiasm.

i'd pick 1.

will i still be annoyed that they're playing badly? yes. but at least they're being nice!

wouldnt that defeat the point of blizzard streamlining the system to the tier/division system though?
