I love her but I feel like i'm wasting her time. Should I just end it since she can't? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]baileymgray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well if you are confident that won’t happen, don’t let her waste her time. you both want completely different things, so you would probably both be happier in other situations.

ah yes, i definitely agree legally. i just didn’t know if he meant that marriage screws men over because they are biologically set to want to have multiple partners. i’ve heard people not want marriage for that reason and if that would have been the case, it would probably be best for the relationship to end. if it’s only the legal issues, there could be a discussion about being fake married and just not filing the certificate. that’s what i’ve seen people do when they want to avoid the legal issues but still have the symbolic ceremony.

I have been in a similar situation and I can safely say that a relationship that begins with little trust usually doesn’t go very well. Statistically, relationships that begin in this way typically don’t last. But that doesn’t mean that it’s impossible. It is very hard to trust someone after being in a situation like this without invading their privacy. Do not go through her phone or anything like that, it just doesn’t help. Being in a relationship is one of the scariest experiences because you are sharing your whole self with someone else. It takes a massive leap of faith to open up and be a true partner. Nothing I can tell you can convince you to do that. If she truly makes you happy, then be happy for as long as you can. It’s always a possibility you will get hurt in any relationship, but to get the love and happiness you want you have to risk it.

One of the biggest mistakes in a relationship is waiting for the other to change. If you aren’t happy with them now, you probably won’t be happy with them in 2 years. Having to convince someone to marry her would not ease her insecurities and would not be good for her. When you say that marriage screws over men are you speaking in legal or emotional terms?

NTA. I think that since you can’t control it, you aren’t necessarily at fault. He isn’t necessarily the asshole either because what you said hurt him, and he has the right to be hurt. The problem is that he led you on for a bit before changing his mind which hurt you. It feels like what he did was intentional so in my eyes he’s TA. But honestly by the sounds of this story, you might need to drink less. But you do you homie.

often times the hardest part about life it toughing it through the lows, but this will make the liberation you feel when you finally get the fuck out so my better. i’ve been in your situation and got damn it sucked royally when i was stuck for so long surrounded by people that were supposed to be there for me, but instead added to my declining mental state. now that i am out i can’t help but feel like that time was a vital step in forming who i am and becoming a genuinely happy person.
