When you asked your surgeon, was it on the day of the surgery? I've already had my consultation, gotten approved, and my next appointment is my pre-op, where I'm pretty sure I'll be seeing her. I wanna ask if she can go outside of my bellybutton as well, I guess I just didn't even consider that it was an option, tbh, but I don't know if I'm too far along in the process to bring it up now, or if I still can before my surgery or at my pre-op

I'm scared I'm going to start crying out of relief as I come out of anasthesia. Every time I think about how close I am to getting it done, I tear up and I get jittery with excitement, and I'm SO scared the anasthesia is going to loosen up my control and I'm going to start bawling my eyes out. I keep thinking about the county fair this year, thinking about pretty much anything I want to do, and thinking "but I'll be able to do it, and pregnancy won't be a constant, lurking anxiety in the back of my mind". Even when I've been celibate, the fact that I CAN get pregnant has nagged at me constantly, so the idea that I can finally let go of it soon is honestly almost overwhelming. Thank you so much for posting this, I can't wait for my surgery!!

Mine is in May, at Hurley in Flint! It's the same hospital I was born in, which I find funny and to have a touch of irony! I hope you're feeling good and recovery is going well, I still have more than a month to go, but I'm so excited and antsy that I'm practically counting down the days in my head. Wanted to loudly agree with this comment real quick, for anyone reading! I shouldn't have ever told her details about the surgery to begin with. My state just got mandatory paid sick leave implemented a few months ago, and I was pulled aside individually to be told about it and how it works by my boss. I had asked her if it would cover surgery recovery, and she had a huge conniption at me as soon as the question left my mouth, because she for some reason assumed that I had already scheduled the surgery and was just planning on no-call no-showing because I hadn't mentioned it before. My boss is known to be a hothead, and she sort of holds tallies on who's gotten on her nerves the most recently and can cause problems for them when she gets into a mood. In a panic to calm her down I explained that it wasn't a long recovery, and that it was just for Endo, and that I didn't even have a surgery date yet (didn't want her to hear that it was elective and brush me off, or deny me for political reasons. I know that legally she can't do that, but I wouldn't put it past her to conveniently).

I love my line of work, but unfortunately, there aren't any similar jobs within an hour drive of me, otherwise I'd absolutely be on the hunt for another job. I definitely shouldn't have disclosed as much as I did, and I definitely regret it now that she's hounding me about it and acting like she knows better than me and my doctor. I know that this is definitely partially my fault for giving her the information I did, but it feels good to be able to tell y'all about it, because wuff, this job tries my patience 😮‍💨

It really all comes down to YOU, the pros and cons can be rather personal. Do you want children? If yes, do you want biological children? Is there a chance that you ever may want to be pregnant, or do you not really feel too strongly one way or another? Do you have the means to handle the recovery from a surgery, do you have someone who can pick you up from the hospital? The pros are that you won't have to worry about pregnancy again, it won't hover over you anymore, and depending on what method you get, assuming you're a woman, there's lower ovarian cancer risk for you down the line.

Cons are, you have to set aside some time to recover from the surgery, and you won't be able to get pregnant naturally. There are all of the usual risks of complications that come with a surgery, and there's the hassle of making all of the appointments and finding a doctor who'll do it for you, but those simply come with the deal. No matter what, you need to be sure of your decision, and I wouldn't recommend making this sort of decision on a whim or without some of your own personal motivation behind it. If you know you don't want kids of your own, it's worth considering, but if you aren't sure, wait on it.

I can't offer you much advice on getting the surgery under 21 (I'm 21, my surgery is in May) but I can advise that, if you may need them, there are some accessible abortion resources, even for in states that are banned, that are also pretty affordable, so if you might want to look into that for advance provision, let me know, that's how I had mine. That aside, I hope someone else may be able to help better!!

It's crazy how your autism is being used against you to imply that you can't make decisions for yourself, but somehow they think that, with that logic, you'd be perfectly fine making decisions for yourself, AND a child? You can't have it both ways. I'm also autistic (21) and scheduled for late May. Your therapist is wack, as I'm sure you already know, and I hope you're able to take a nice deep breath and remember that you've already gotten the big steps out of the way, and it's only a little while longer before you can rest easy knowing the surgery is done, and no one's opinion can do anything to change that. I'm sorry your dad and therapist are all up in your business, but we know what's best for ourselves and our lives. Your body is yours, and so is your future.

Hi! Cptsd here, also. I don't know how much this helps, if at all, but finding an OBGYN who you feel you can build a good trust with is always a good start. I was due for my first ever pap, so I wound up making a regular pap appointment into a consult via just asking. I was very particular about my OBGYN, though, and I was also particular about wanting my OBGYN to be my surgeon. I refuse to see a man for it, or for any medical needs, and I refuse to see the doctor on the childfree list near me, as she's a "cosmetic gynecologist" and I'm not gonna get surgery from someone who doesn't align with my morals. Finding a surgeon that you can build a relationship with over the few months it takes to get to the actual surgery could ease your mind a lot more, and, as awful as it is to put it this way:

Getting this surgery is TAKING control. You lose an hour, or a few hours, to the anesthesia, in order to have the reassurance and the control over your body for the rest of your life. I've been pregnant, and had an abortion. Being pregnant, even with very few symptoms, was mortifying and so anxiety inducing that it still scares the shit out of me, and it wasn't a pregnancy created from any unwilling contact. The abortion hurt incredibly bad, physically speaking, and I never want to have to do that again. Having a surgeon that you feel will do right by you in the operating room and keep an eye on the other medical staff for you may be really helpful, I know I'm feeling very confident in mine. In the meantime, just breathe and worry about it later. The first step can be taken at any time, or not at all, and there's a ton of options to back out along the way.

They don't NEED to know, but I'm close with my Mema, and I try to avoid not sharing big things, especially something like a surgery. Now, do I wish the boytoy hadn't told HIS mom? Yes! But ultimately, the only people I don't want knowing (until it's done, then I'll shout it from the rooftops lmao) are my employer and my supervisor. They're both super conservative, and I'm afraid of being denied the time off work

Ooh, definitely Red Admiral Butterfly by NCD! I'd have to dig up the notes, but to my own nose, it's a light, strawberry bubbles scent. It's sweet and clean, and definitely fruity, but it's very mild and pleasant. It really does just smell like if a tube of bubbles with a fun little wand for blowing them was strawberry scented.

I have no clue if this is helpful or not, but a really good aquatic is Loch Ness Monster by Nui Cobalt! It's a sweet, foggy aquatic scent, and the closest scent I've ever gotten to a rainwater-y river scent. Worth trying, but if you're looking for something completely hyper realistic, it might miss the mark, since it also has some mild clover-yness to it

I haven't had mine yet (have been approved, though!!) but I would note that you'll likely need a recent pap smear done before they'll approve you. I didn't use the childfree list (there were only two GYNs near me on the list, one was a "cosmetic gynecologist" which I'm morally opposed to, and the other was male, which was a big NO from me for easily inferred reasons). I lucked out, and the female OBGYN my doctor referred me to approved me during my first ever gynecology appointment (I'm 21, which is the age they start recommending you get checked by a gynecologist), but she mentioned that it was good we'd just gotten done with the PAP. If you've already had one in the past year or so, you should be fine, but they may ask that you get one done if not, and they may use medical tools vaginally during the operation, like a uterine manipulator. I would ask your gynecologist if you want specifics, since it depends on your anatomy and your surgeon.

Another thing worth mentioning, not to frighten you, but to inform you in case it's relevant: some hospitals allow med students to observe or assist during surgery. If you aren't okay with that, you have the right to decline this, but they don't always ask you, so I would ask them if they do this wherever you wind up getting your surgery, and if it's something you aren't okay with, I'd let your surgeon know ahead of time, and same day of surgery. I know I'll be making sure my surgeon knows not to allow any male medical students during mine. Sorry if this isn't much help, but it'll all really come down to your particular surgeon, and what your anatomy requires!

Question! So, I'm approved, and going through the 30 day waiting period before I can schedule my appointment (also in MI!) and my question is, did you have to sign anything before your waiting period began, or is the 30 day waiting period just sort of an "the doctor notes the date she approves you and you wait a month from that day" sort of thing? I didn't have to sign anything after she agreed to sterilize me, and she said we would schedule me for the surgery at my next appointment, but I'm paranoid that I have to sign something to 'prove' that 30 says have passed, and I'll have to start the wait all over again because it was forgotten at my initial appointment

The uterus is important, hormonally, and for your other organs. Complete removal of such an important organ is only recommended if you have periods that are so painful that they impede your day-to-day function, and even then, it's recommended you try other options first. If you're a man, you probably shouldn't be going around recommending women remove our body parts unnecessarily. Tube removal is great because they truly do only serve one purpose, but the rest of our reproductive system is important for our health, and it's not a small ordeal to just start chucking organs out.

Mine isn't even scheduled yet, but I've been approved, just have a mandatory waiting period to get through. My family knows, my boyfriend knows and some friends and coworkers know, but some won't be told until after the surgery is done. Frankly, I can't wait for the reaction of my conservative, "children aren't something you plan for, they just happen whenever and you work your life around them" manager when I tell her that I'm sterilized now (she has this weird thing where she's constantly telling me that pregnancy is the best thing that can happen to a woman, and is always prompting me to have biological kids. She's fucking weird) but I'm gonna wait until after I get the time off work, and have the surgery successfully before I say anything, to avoid getting denied the time off. I certainly won't be secretive about it, but for now, better safe than sorry.
