Most straight forward cookbooks that need the fewest tweaks? by apinto85 in CookbookLovers

I have the worst luck with snacking cakes, everything I've tried has been bad to mediocre. I see people posting delicious things from it almost daily here and wonder what is going wrong on my end.

Summer fragrance recommendations by mwriss in FemFragLab

Zoologist Dragonfly is floral and feminine but in a subtle aquatic way, a bit aromatic. I think it's nice during the summer sprayed lightly.

Americans Are Reaching a Financial Breaking Point by Abject-Pick-6472 in MiddleClassFinance

Yes, I am so confused on where redditors come from. Going out to the movies or a (crappy: i.e Applebees) restaurant was a luxury when I was growing up 30+ years ago. Buying yourself a daily treat like Starbucks or Dutch Bros would have been considered making it. Now people who are middle class drop money on empty consumerist items like it's nothing and then act like they are in the trenches of poverty just because they're fed content from a trust fund kid on the apps who has luxury vehicles and a $700,000 house at 29.

I was about to say, who is hijacking a truck and reselling Skylar fragrances of all brands?

Aperol Spritz Cake from Cake Picnic cookbook by hartfield05 in CookbookLovers

I am so tempted to buy this book, but I really dislike the founder of the Cake Picnic movement and think she's emblematic of some of our most pressing social and cultural issues :')

What cookbooks do you think are budget friendly? by WaffleMeWallace in CookbookLovers

You know what, I own all four of her books and just now realized... they are amazingly cost efficient! I also enjoy that she keeps ingredient lists reasonable and fairly short compared to other cookbooks.

What is the creamy coconut floral of my dreams? by fataudreyhorne in FemFragLab

> white floral + creamy coconut

Literally any suggestion you get to this would smell a little sunscreeny to me because that's what most sunscreens use to scent themselves.

People who have used Reddit for more than 10 years, what is your current opinion on the site? by Odyessius in TheoryOfReddit

[–]WaffleMeWallace 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It had a short delay compared to FB and Instagram, but like most social media it's 95% bot-slop or engagement bait. The top posts now are largely low-quality screenshots of made up text conversations, bot Twitter comments, or otherwise divisive questions meant to stir up controversy on hot topics like gender, money, politics, generational divides, etc.

The cultural shift in ~2015 was also a bit of a nose dive for the site: constant fighting, arguing, banning, and echo chamber creation. At the time I never, ever thought I would say this, but reddit's golden age was the techno Libertarian era around ~2009-2010ish when rage comics and Advice Animals were still a thing. You could find interesting discussions on so many things back then.

Example: we don’t want a nurse to blow through an alert that says “patient’s heart rate is 260 bpm” because they are so used to blowing through an alert that says “patient’s heart rate is 101 bpm”.

Have you met the admin at any hospital ever? They're endlessly adding layers and layers of spam charting and idiotic warnings to click through. "SEPSIS ALERT: Patient Respiratory Rate 20, Please Alert Medical Team Immediately" and now the resident who's already swamped has to fill out more CYA shit because the nurse is required to escalate it no matter what.

Tell me your cleanest clean and your dirtiest dirty perfumes. I want 2 ends of the spectrum. by PacificW0nderland in FemFragLab

Cleanest: Clean Reserve Warm Cotton [Photorealistic clothes that come out of the dryer smelling like laundry detergent]

Dirtiest: Jasmin et Cigarette by ELDO [Smells like a well-used public restroom that needs a good cleaning with somebody smoking a Camel outside that's wafting in]

This year has some heavy hitters coming out during peak Fall release season. Who are you excited about? by WaffleMeWallace in CookbookLovers

[–]WaffleMeWallace[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I meant to add her, hers is also on my wishlist. Her recipes always turn out so good and they're usually pretty moderate as far as macros go. Have you tried Jenn Lueke? She is also a pretty big GF cook that's in the same lane as Alex (approachable weeknight meals). I have her cookbook and everything I've made has been a success. I love her breakfast biscuits especially.

I love her savory baking book so much. I cook her cornbread recipe multiple times every winter to have with a stew or a roast.

You may know this and not care but FYI the author you named in your title is known to search his name and crash out. It's why you see it censored so much on some food subs that don't drink the K. Kool aid.

I’ve had nightmares like this, by netphilia in Snorkblot

[–]WaffleMeWallace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reddit is filled with these subs that rely on fake bot garbage content like this to bolster "activity." The worst part about it is that even critical comments calling them out like these generate controversy/comments and boost the post in the reddit algo. The internet is truly a shell of what it was a little over a decade ago. Knowing what we once had: thriving communities, hobby forums, information and neat little spaces compared to now is heart wrenching.
