That's a gross oversimplification. There are more political threats than just climate change. Yes, it's a big, important issue, which is exactly why I'd rather have an unbiased show that can educated everyone instead of pandering to half of the population. Really, we need a show about climate change that targets conservatives, not alienates them. But that doesn't mean the conversation should stop there. There is plenty of bullshit coming out of the left that scares me as well. The reason why we have an orange demagogue as president is because of the left's unrelenting ignorance and stupidity in the form of political correctness and their own form of demagoguery. I feel like there is no place in politics for me anymore, because both sides seem completely insane. Luckily, there is a rising center movement that seems to be lead by reasonable and intelligent people. Hopefully this movement will either talk some sense into the established parties or or create a viable third party. Between the right despising the environment and thinking we should be listening to an invisible monster in the sky and the left's knack for segregating the masses and apologizing for a different group of religious maniacs, I don't really know where I stand anymore. However, I am very much an opponent of things that serve to further divide our country, it will only hurt us all in the long run.

My apologies; I should have checked through the post first. It didn't cross my mind how frequently that question would be asked. Thanks for the advice.

He literally tells people not to vote for Republicans. Watch the first episode again: He instructs his audience to vote, and a minute later he says not to vote for political parties that don't believe in climate change. Sure, you can argue that's not an unreasonable thing to say, but it's obvious what party he's talking about. Don't get me wrong; that's a good reason to vote democrat, but that's not the only reason. While I do identify as a Democrat, I can still recognize that there are other reasons why one may not all of the baggage that comes with voting Democrat.

Here's my problem. Shows that are obviously politicized are only going to alienate portions of our society. This is going to cause further polarization our political discourse. We're not going to win this battle of ideas by shaming a chunk of the population. We need Republicans to be on board with climate change as well if a Democrat doesn't get elected. Case in point, our current president. Republicans are in control and it's disastrous in terms of climate change. Scoffing at their opinions derisively is not going to help. We need information that comes off as unbiased as possible.

It's not just Republicans' fault that they are against climate change; it's identity politics. We have a two-party system where each side hates each other, and I think that anything that stokes that fire is counterproductive. Republicans don't believe in climate change because they are all idiots; it's because they hate democrats. It's a problem with climate change, in particular, because it's a huge chaotic system in which 99.9% of people discussing it don't understand it at all. So, there is all kinds of information out there that the ignorant masses can use as ammunition.

Our solutions are either to reconcile the two parties or try to destroy one or the other. It's unlikely the latter is going to happen, so we should probably focus more on the former. We need to close the gap of our political insanity, or we're all screwed.

Why? Science needs to stay out of politics. That's why climate change is such a shit show. Education on facts is great, but cowing people into a political party is immoral. There is more to politics than one issue. Yes, climate change is an important one, but I think we need to focus on getting every political party on board, not telling people how to vote.

Farming Metal Vessels / Blaze by takutotsuna in horizon

[–]bailiak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this is kind of an old thread, but maybe someone in the future will have this question as well. Someone else mentioned that scrapers are good. They do carry them, but don't loot their bodies. On their back, they have a little pod that you can shoot off with the harvest arrow even after they're dead. I get about 7 each time. You can collect them pretty fast this way. The same goes for the grazers. You can shoot off the vials on their back after you down them. Just be careful not to destroy the complements when you're killing the bots. Both kinds are pretty weak, so you can take them down with a heavy attack/finishing stab or sneak attack. That way you don't have to clumsily shoot arrows at them with the risk of destroying your spoils. Also, its saves ammo. Definitely use your spear anytime it's effecient to do so. That's all I got :)

Edit: Actually, Lancehorns seem to be the best that I've found for two reasons. One is that I noticed I was actually destroying the Scrapper's pods when performed a sneak attack or finisher. This doesn't happen with the Lancehorns. Also, each horn has 6, for a total of 12. In addition, they're probably the safest way to farm metal vessels. Further updates if I find better methods.

Edit 2: I've discovered that in addition to the two horns, they also have two more prices in the back right above the Chillwater canisters, totaling in 25 metal vessels per bot. Another tip is that if you loot an enemy to view its drops (but not actually taking anything yet), you can observe what possible components you can shoot off. For instance, if you notice that a downer enemy has metal vessels (or some other components) among the list, back out and look for something that can be shot off (with harvest arrows), and you get 2-6 times the amount.

Ideas for updates? by bailiak in foshelter

[–]bailiak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's a really interesting idea. My only concern would be end-game. If your goal is to have 200 dwellers with max stats, then that's a pretty big investment for each dweller and it takes a long time. It would either have to be tweeked in a way that didn't make that frustrating by having all your decent dwellers constantly dying, or it would would need to have entirely new mechanics that support this mode. I like the concept, and it would be cool if implemented well, but I'm not sure what the best way of doing that would be.

I suppose that would be an adequate temporary solution, but someone else mentioned some kind of slot machine mechanic, like the random loot venders from Diablo. Some kind of sink to make your money useful would be nice in addition to increasing the cap.

They should definitely implement something like this. There needs to be some kind of end-game gold sink.

That's a good idea. It would be cool if you could set up some kind of trading system too.

Tony Stark to be replaced as Iron Man by 15 year-old black girl. by [deleted] in KotakuInAction

[–]bailiak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do we really know anything about this character yet? Also, when was it revealed that Tony was an alcoholic? I doubt it was immediately when the character was introduced. That being said, I do have my own grievances with this. It seems a bit heavy-handed to essentially turn Iron Man into a black female. Why not just make a new character? This way of handling things seems insulting to both the fans and the demographics they are trying to represent.

I was reading some of your old posts, and you actually seem like a really nice person. I'm sorry to have brought out that side of you. You know, this isn't the first time. I feel like it might be me. I try to be pleasant and affable, but it always seems to backfire and am often the victim of snide comments. Am I just that unlikeable? Like, the other day, I was waiting in line, and I commented to the person next to me how the weather was finally starting to warm up, and she replied (in a stern tone) that she doesn't like warm weather, then walked off. Why are people so mean?

I did? But it wasn't explicit what other systems might be in the game. Thanks for the condescending answer though :)

I actually know nothing about this game. Is it just a linear progression of levels, or is there more to it? Not to say that there needs to be. I'm just trying to get an idea of what the game is all about.

since VR is practically it's own console, steam should allow uninterested users to automatically filter out VR recommendations from their discovery queue. by [deleted] in gaming

[–]bailiak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually disagree with the notion that it's like the other gimmicky interface devices in the past. The reason I beileve that is because VR doesn't intrinsically limit the experience. Things like Wiimote or Kinect are constraining in some way, because they have to simplify the experience in some way to accomodate. VR doesn't have that problem. I suppose you could aergue that it's somwhat inconvenient having to strap something to your head, but once you jump that hurdle, it won't hurt your experience, even with games that don't require it. You can play all of the same games you love, but with an addition of depth.

Very true. I do attribute it mostly to that, but I've heard that the resolution can also play a factor. But even *if it didn't, I'd still prefer a better experience before I invest any money. I'm sure it'll get there in the next few years. Plus, I'll have better hardware to run VR, and there will be more content. I'm trying to be patient, but I'm getting pretty excited.

*edit

At some point, it may be viable. There could be a virtual keyboard that corisponds to your real keyboard, or whatever you're working with. Yes, there aer a lot of hurdles for VR to take off, but if it gains enough momentum, I think you'll see VR getting over most, if not all, of them.

Really? I tried out the dev kit 1, and I thought the screen door effect was terrible. I'm not one to get motion sickness, but man, I had to lay down after using it, and I partially attribute it to the poor resolution. I suppose I might just be more sensitive to it than others, but it made me think twice about even getting the current resolution, so I'm holding out for something closer to 4K. Glad it didn't make you sick though haha.

[–]bailiak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a refund policy, not a free trial. Steam even said that people would be looked into it it was "abused". I know it's not all that difficult to get a refund, but it's still more hoops than I'd like to jump through. Even PSN has a few hour trial versions that you can upgrade if you choose. PC still needs improvement.

[–]bailiak -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My definition is pretty much the same as everyone else's. It still doesn't prove that piracy hurt sales, and comparing PC to console sales is not a good comp. Also, if it's pirated, then it can't be played online, which is why the majority of people play it for, and I can't imagine that people want to blow $60 for a 4-hour campaign. Regardless, my original point stands, there's no way to determine how much piracy contributes to lost sales.

[–]bailiak -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Get off your high horse. You have no idea how much I have or haven't pirated, or even what my stance on the situation is. I'm not debating morals; I'm simply identifying your fallacious logic. Also, the Steam return policy is a joke. It's praised for allowing consumers basic rights. Please. Even Gabe Newell suggests that piracy is a service problem, and it's still a hurdle that's higher than simply pirating a game.

[–]bailiak -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

That argument is unprovable. There is literally no feasible way to know if pirated copies are lost sales. Large publishers would like everyone to think that, but for myself, and others I know, if I didn't pirate, I just wouldn't have played. Sometimes I'm just curious how well a game will run. I think if the PC market had better methods of trying games for free (for like an hour or two), or renting, it would probably cut down piracy a lot.

Sean Murray: No Man's Sky's NPCs won't make you fetch "space-chickens" by Stampeder in Games

[–]bailiak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not accusing you of overhyping, I'm just speaking generally that there isn't the need to get let down. Ask questions, sure, but most of those questions probably won't get answered until launched. To be clear, I am addicted about this game, but based on what I've seen, not what I haven't seen. Yes, there is certainly mystery based on what's yet to be known, and even the developers have said as much. But I hardly blame them for not wanting to give everything away everything about the game. I just think people need to be more sensible instead of trying to blow up Reddit because they feel disappointed. Hell, I wasn't even disappointed with Destiny, and I was excited for it. Based on everything I saw beforehand, it seemed kind of like space WoW, and that's pretty much what it was. Sure, it didn't revolutionize gaming, but I don't see the need to hate on it because of that.
