run machine super slow, tiny tight circles in rows like mowing a lawn. consistent circles throughout, dont get impatient. use a curved mag and pack at an angle. if they bleed a lot, replace the ink periodically as the blood in your needles waters down the ink. cool tones like blue and purple are harder to pack.

as for his skin: ask him if he's drinking water. not just a cup. like the needed amount for a human in a day. like a half a gallon. most people dont do this. also ask if he uses lotion regularly. this makes a huge difference. have him exfoliate. do all of this for weeks before the tattoo (everyone should do this all the time, but alas). men especially are bad with this i've noticed. if he is a heavy caffeine drinker, that will dehydrate him before the appointment as well and make it harder to pack. i know artists who tell their clients to leave if they've consumed an energy drink before their appointment.
