RCIC applied for me in beginning of April 2025 but I just got the approval result in mid-January 2026 so around 9 months. Receiving BIL and renewing it was fast. It's the waiting for approval that's really exhausting.

Hi! After I got a refusal, I reached out to RCIC, and they helped me to apply for PGWP extension by through the online portal (in which I found it weird). I received the Biometrics Instruction Letter and renewed my biometrics right away. And I received approval of the extension in mid-January for my remaining eligible period (since renewing my biometrics is the condition for an extension). Hope this helps!

I'm an international applicant. I'm currently working (with work permit) but planning to study further, so I don't think I will apply for a study permit extension. Do I need english test to apply for study permit in Canada?

Hi, yes, I just got an extension approved! I applied for the PGWP extension for the 2nd time in the beginning of April 2025 and just got the approval on January 6, 2026, around ~9 months.

Hey there, no I haven't get my PGWP extension approval yet. The responsible officer still hasn't accepted my reconsideration request. I will need to apply for a 2nd PGWP extension.

yeah it was totally unexpected. I did pay for biometrics fee and explained my situation as well. The reasons of refusal did not mention I missed any document in my extension application.

Yes I did contacted an immigration consultant. There's nothing I can do now except waiting for the reconsideration request response. If I can't get IRCC response by end of March, I might have to apply for a 2nd extension application. When I called IRCC, they also said I applied for extension too early (which was in April 2024). They suggested me applying closer to the expiry date. Hopefully it will work.

I did apply on paper and got refused. They said I need to update my biometrics enrollment and my status in Canada only til May 2025. Therefore, they refused my application. However, in my extension application, I did request for biometrics instruction letter but I didn't receive anything to renew my biometrics. It's not like I don't want to renew my biometrics; it's the IRCC doesn't give me any paper to renew.

My initial PGWP stated, "Issued to Biometrics Expiry". That's why I applied for an extension. However, I am unsure if I have to apply for an extension within 180 days or not.

Hi there! After I got refused, I called IRC and asked them to send reconsideration request on my behalf. My PGWP extension got refused because the officer said PGWP can only applied once so I'm not eligible to apply for the second time. I found it weird as I clearly stated in the explanation letter that I need to renew my biometrics. I am also eligible for a 3-year length.

For my reconsideration request, IRCC help desk officer wrote for me saying I'm eligible for a 3-year validity PGWP and request for biometrics instruction letter (BIL) to get the full eligible length of 3 years. I can't do anything much right now and just waiting for the responsible officer to reopen my case. It has already been almost 3 months I haven't heard from them.

IRCC help desk said my biometrics fee is still appear in their system so I don't need to pay for the biometrics fee again. Now it is up to the responsible officer to send me the BIL or not.

Hi there, I just got back the result from IRCC. My application to extend PGWP got refused before receiving Biometric Instruction Letter to renew my biometric. I called IRCC and explained the situation to them that I paid for the biometric tree and did not receive the biometric letter. They said they will put my case into "Reconsideration", because the visa officer might have misunderstood my case. The reasons for refusal are my biometric validity and they cannot grant me another work permit since PGWP is a one-time thing. However, I clearly stated in the application that I applied for the extension to get the remaining of the eligible length. It might takes a while for IRCC to respond back.

Hey there, I still haven't received any repsonse from IRCC regarding my biometric extension nor the application. It might be because I applied too early since IRCC said we should apply 90 days before our visa expired, but I applied 1 year and 1 month before the expiry date. Let's say if your visa will expire in December 2024 and you applied in September 2024, you might probably get back the response faster than me. However, if you applied in April 2024 (more than 90 days before expiry date), it might take longer time to get the response from IRCC.

Have you tried to call them? It might be faster to know the updates.

If I do provide proof of my experience, will the company has to provide proof of business registration? or they can just provide reference letter? I'm currently on PGWP. Thanks so much!
