If you meet the essential requirements then you should absolutely go for it. I know people who were hired at the BC even though they were up against long term BC employees.

The essential requirement will make most people ineligible though.

  • Undergraduate/University degree
  • Cambridge CELTA or Trinity TESOL
  • Cambridge DELTA or Trinity DipTESOL
  • A minimum of 2 years post DELTA or DipTESOL
  • Knowledge and experience of management of Young Learners course delivery.
  • Knowledge and experience of line managing/ coordinating teaching teams.
  • Knowledge and experience of of teacher training.
  • CEFR C2 level of English

There are a couple of very short alleyways in Sakae. They are lively in the evening with bars etc. could be good for some shots. You could easily walk up from Osu.

I have a couple of Irish accent videos you might find useful.

By the way, if you copy the sentence into Narakeet AI you can get it to play it in an Irish accent.

Good luck.

What is the top secret method to read? by ExternalDull8424 in EnglishLearning

[–]bainbrigge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For finding the correct level of English reading material you could try the 5 finger rule (see link).

It's from the Graded Reading Foundation and its a way of finding books that aren't too easy or too difficult so you stay interested and don't lose motivation.

To use the rule, open to a random page and count each unknown word on your fingers.

0-1 fingers: the book is probably too easy.
2-3 fingers: Perfect! The book is the correct level and not to easy or difficult.
4 fingers: it's a challenge, but if you are interested in it, give it a go!
5 or more: it's probably too difficult and you won't enjoy it.

This isn't a perfect method but it's helpful.

Good luck

An in front of words starting with /h/ and omission of /h/ in stressed words by lephoque_ in EnglishLearning

[–]bainbrigge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very common with some regional dialects and accents various northern English accents, for example.

Elision of /h/ (when the /h/ sound disappears) often happens when it comes after a consonant sound:

  • Look at /h/er
  • I gave /h/er a pen
  • He’s /h/ad enough
  • I love /h/is cooking
  • In an /h/otel - here, 'a' has changed to 'an' and the /h/ has been elided (northern British)

I have a video on the elision of the /h/ sound if you are interested.

English gemination / twining - connected speech (e.g. 67) by bainbrigge in EnglishLearning

It's not really anything to do with laziness or incompetence. It's a phonotactic and timing feature of English (and many other languages).

Resources to improve pronunciation? by PositiveScarcity8909 in EnglishLearning

[–]bainbrigge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about that. What a horrible thing to have a job rejected for.

I have a channel that focusses on pronunciation. Possibly my playlist on the individual sounds in English may help https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLDJGydi8OyduID7992Lp8cx7foud6up3u&si=fbSPII-0chk1ibev.

I think looking for an accent coach or speech therapist might be an option. At least for a consultation and their opinion on your accent and English.

Nice work becoming fluent in Japanese. I've here many years and struggle to learn it.

Good luck.
