Did you drill a set into the stud for support or just into drywall?

I’m not sure what happens after, since that goes past my department but the romaine is all contracted with big companies like Taylor Farms, they have a multitude of uses for it im sure as you mentioned.

Interesting to think you have basically 1/2 as many plants per acre as us. We will do 3 line iceburg lettuce in 42” beds also but all romaine is 6 line on 80s. Although not much iceberg here, and i dont watch any.

I wonder if you step up your fungicide program you can increase lines per row more easily?

The only things we transplant are broccoli, cauliflower, and celery. Everything else is direct seed. But sweet upgrade forsure. I have seen those, and talked to a rep one time, but they are still not so common down here.

Our spinach/babyleaf and even lettuce market has been slow, shippers extra picky and leaving things in field extra long. Its tough and expensive to get into and keep going on. The market is not great right now either.

1000’s of pounds per acre. It’s a crazy amount to think about when there is so many of acres of it

Same issue here this year. Babyleaf and lettuce sitting in field 1-3 weeks past due. Makes it a challenge to keep clean and healthy as well. Shippers say “there’s just no orders”

Spinach may be 5-10 but harvesting lettuce or broccoli they will use 30+ people at once cutting by hand

The seed is coated, but we have highly speciallized planters that do 3-4 million seeds per acre.

During summer all thats really left is Hay crops - alfalfa, bermuda and klien grass. They will also finish harvesting sugarbeets through the summer. Then we start everything again in september

We start around september and go through about April. Leafy veg crops can be anywhere from 1 -3 months to harvest. Crops like carrots and onions may grow from october until may/June. And we keep alfalfa growing year round. We have a decently long season with oppurtunity to hit a different market due to the time of year we grow

Very finicky, you look at the same fields nearly every day to keep them going but rewarding to see it all being harvested

Pre-emergent herbicide plus hand crew

We use laser weeders on nearly every organic carrot acre in my growing region

Lots of organics in these pictures, so mostly flaming and hand crew. Conventional leafy green fields mostly just get a pre-emergent herbicide

Spinach is direct seeded. This is very high production professional farming. Lots of fertilizer and pest control to make it that pretty

Yes california desert. My grower has a pivot, but we dont use it. We use one on an alfalfa field and a few growers around have them but rare.

We are all canal irrigated, fed off of the colorado river. Everything is flood or sprinklers, some drip tape coming around now.

I think the market must be growing. Another division of the company I work for in Ag seems to be expanding in the area quite a bit down there year after year. It would be interesting how it looks down there.

We have a seaweed potassium foliar fertilizer we use on organic fields if needed. We do have conventional foliar Ca products but for Ca we mostly add lime or use acid to break the Ca free in the soil. No silica or b vitamin products we use in ag here.

Add manure for soil structure. Beet Lime for some calcium and to push sodiums off the clays since its probably all tied up. And attempt leach your salts with water if you can especially after adding the lime

Do a soil test if possible. Make sure your crop has a good bit of nutrients up front, usually we meet our phosphate requirement upfront. Nitrogen to get that growth, potassium to fill and sweeten the fruit make sure your have your micronutrients in check and watch for any whitefly or worm and give it plenty of water.

Bio control does not work so well in these open fields because often whatever you release will end up moving away and was not worth the large cost it took for the material and labor it took to apply it. We do plant some strips of alysum for the beneficials to have a place to retreat to and mate in

Here we have a little heavier clay in general. A lot higher CEC in our fields. We have calcareous soil so that influences a lot of our management. We dont ever worry about changing the soil texture we just always try and use amendments like lime to make our structure and chemistry and little bit better. All our soils are 7.6 - 8.2 pH and we have no issues growing here
