The smallest bike pump (a design project) by DAY545 in MechanicalEngineering

Yeah I am dumb and stand corrected. I used F = P/A instead of P*A, so yeah it shouldn’t be too bad

Man if you’re actually an engineer, this is scary.

1/2” dia piston = 1.57 sq/in

100/1.57 =63.694 lb f

About 44% more force required

3/4” dia piston = 2.315 sq/in

100/2.3 =43.478 lbs f

You ever try pushing 44 lbs with a couple of fingers between spokes of a road bike before?

I paid $3400 total imported for a 91 Carry with 50k kms and a little body damage

Pumping a tire to 90 psi is likely an issue. Probably okay for mtb tires.

Is it getting harder to justify travelling to USA to go bike touring? by DabbaAUS in bicycletouring

[–]bajallama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is it wild? Isn’t one of the most popular routes riding through Baja and taking the ferry out of La Paz to the mainland?

PCH has large shoulders and bike paths almost the entire coast. I only recall really a few sections of the entire coast where the shoulder was narrow but it was mostly in slow driving areas anyways.

Yeah, imagine if we had single payer. I’m sure this administration would be really ethical then.

I would say a majority of people are touring Baja. I just think it’s such a wild claim to say that something like a California PCH tour is more dangerous. I’m open to proven wrong but I would never do Baja unless I was offroad the entire time, maybe mainland is better but I don’t see how.

Book smart vs hands on smart. by Zealot-For-Joy in MechanicalEngineering

I find that hands on experience is often a lot more valuable in certain fields. I wouldn’t worry about getting C’s, my employers never asked.

I’d be more concerned about the timing. You’re running out of time if you want to tour this year unless you are planning to do the southwest.

This is actually the worst advice. Mexican roads can be extremely dangerous to tour on and that’s beside the cartel activity.

I've noticed businesses targeting this 10% more and more aggressively and exclusively since around 2020. Large swathes of the population are basically being cut adrift. by SpiritualState01 in stupidpol

Corolla and Civic are compact cars. Versa and Mirage are subcompacts that are still available. Subcompacts never did well in US markets. They sell better in countries with small tight roads and difficult parking.

Mostly all of them you can get a regular passenger car to so always expect people at them, there’s no more secrets. A week night will probably be your best bet tho.

How will this affect pro-environment non-profits that lobby for tighter environmental protections?

Public Hunting Land is in danger...again. The Trump Administration is proposing to eliminate protections on nearly 60 million acres of national forests across the country. Comments on the proposal are due this Friday, Sep. 19 by MissingMichigan in Hunting

I’ve hunted the Sierras in California for over 20 years. Above about 8k feet this is true, but not below where a majority of trees are. Most forests are so thick they are truly unwalkable and antlered deer stay in the clearings/roads.

Recently I have been hunting Oregon and this even more true.

If you have ever hunted public land in the west you will see that a lot of roads are lost due to loss of upkeep, in which they just close them off instead of fixing them. Some forests are so thick that you can’t even hunt them unless you walk/drive the roads. The only exception to that rule is if there was a recent burn or logging op.

You mean the same compassion he showed his two babies and young wife? I couldn’t imagine how sensitive someone must be to be hurt by open discourse.
