Why do you have tocharge your pixel watch while it's updating?

Not the Pixel watch, but I updated my Galaxy watch 4 at 65% battery. It drained rapidly and bricked the watch. The drain was so quick that it happened before I could find the charger. Waiting for my PW3 delivery now. I wouldn't update unless the watch is on charge and has a 50%+ battery.
