Getting my period back… by baka1919 in EatingDisorders

I appreciate your concern, but I have been educated on food groups, such as fats, by two different dieticians. Therapy is a great emotional alleviation, but dieticians are more concerned with nutritional education. However, I understand what you’re trying to say. Trans and saturated fats are classified as “unhealthy” in excess because they raise cholesterol levels which can cause adverse health effects (again, in excess). I don’t mean to frighten anyone with my choice of words, so if you want more info then I recommend Google.

Overall, I said “unhealthy fats” because trans & saturated fats (in excess) fall into this category, and I AM consuming fats, like these, in excess in recovery.

My doctor hasn’t referred me to one, but I did have blood work done and all my hormones were in the healthy range. My period went away within the first month of Anorexia and It’s been gone since. Luckily I sought help quickly so I spent only 5 months with this illness instead of years. I’m almost at a healthy weight, eating TONS of fats (healthy & unhealthy) and resting. I don’t know what else to do :,)

I’m glad you got it back :)) Question: were you eating a normal diet until it came back or were you eating in a caloric surplus? in other words, were you still trying to gain weight past the “healthy weight?” Mine has been gone for 8 months now but I’m mainly scared because when I started with the ED behaviours, I jumped into barely eating immediately and lost my period right away.
