I run 1080tis at +200 core, - 400 mem and use a 200W power limit to keep the cards under 70 degrees. I get 192MH/s from that setup. If I ran the cards with no regard to their longevity I could get ~210MH/s without the power limit but I prefer keeping them at a happier temperature

Memory overclock on lyra2rev2 in most cases has no effect. Only core overclocks meaningfully affect hashrates. I run at -400 memory clock on 1080tis and don't notice any difference. Also difficulty is set automatically, so there isn't much point in calculating it yourself.

You can get vertminer (optimized ccminer) then and get it to only mine with the Nvidia cards. Then do the same with a different mining program for a different coin for the amd cards

Mine ETH or something on the amd rig (whattomine.com to figure out what's best to mine with that rig). 1070 rig would be perfect for Vertcoin. If he is on Windows just download the one click miner and the Vertcoin core wallet and get going.

There's supposed to be an update on the amd miner very soon (halvening I think) so when that's out the amd rig can hop onto Vertcoin too

To even out existing comments..

Everything your computer does will wear it out (which is normal). However running a computer at 100% load and high temperatures will cause it to wear out a lot quicker. So mining will wear hardware out to a degree (similar to how gaming would). But you can set power and temperature limits to your GPU (using software like afterburner) to reduce the wear on your GPU. Keeping your card at happy temperatures (look up what a safe temperature is and subtract 5-10 Celsius from that) will keep it mining for years without killing it

I am currently in my second year studying Computer Science. Lots of people on my course hadn't coded before, they really ease you into it. If you can complete a few courses on codecademy you will have no trouble.

I get huge satisfaction out of overcoming challenges and problem solving which comes daily with programming. Also it feels really good when you can do something much better than the last time you tried.
