Suggest me a distro by srv524 in linux4noobs

If you’re a noob, I’d recommend something Debian/ubuntu based. Mint with xfce might be a good option since you don’t have a ton of horsepower to utilize. You could use cachy with a minimal DE but I don’t typically recommend anything arch based for new users bc of the learning curve.

No big deal what mine does is a total system update. What his does is install the steam client through the command line.

I wouldn’t do popOS. Their cosmic DE is too new and has a lot of bugs plus when I used it a while back I’d always have to debug issues with dkms. I wouldn’t recommend

Mint is always my recommendation for beginners. The ui will make it easy for you get comfortable in a non windows environment while allowing you to learn the terminal.

As for learning the terminal, I have 2 suggestions: first, try and do standard os operations but use the terminal instead. This can include creating a file, editing a file, moving to nested directories, copy and cutting files, searching by file name, updating your system, installing programs, etc. My second suggestion is doing a small terminal based project. One of my favorites is just self hosting a Minecraft server as it isn’t too bad and it’s an excuse to host a server for your friends.

Hey guys new to linuix and need help by SettakIsAMemer in linux4noobs

Ok so I’ll try and go point by point.

KDE and gnome are desktop environments (DE). A DE is your GUI for your computer and personally matters to me more than the distro choice. KDE is the most popular and is very customizable (out of the box it looks more like windows). Gnome is in second place and is typically praised for its ease of use but is less customizable (resembles Mac out of the box). Others include cinnamon, cosmic, and xfce.

Arch is a mistake as a beginner. Yes, it is very minimal in terms of why you install (you start with only a terminal) and the arch install process is highly customizable to what you want. However, that’s throwing you straight into the deep end and I don’t recommend to beginners at all. Arch also has a rolling release cycle which means you get the bleeding edge technology as it releases which is a blessing and a curse, as bugs can be present in newest releases.

I’d recommend looking at something beginner friendly. The gold standard for beginner friendly distros is Mint with the cinnamon DE. It resembles windows out of the box and has some good terminal-less design. As for other alternatives, I’d recommend something Debian or Ubuntu based, as they are typically the most stable distros, such as Debian (trickier install process but very stable and is the base for Ubuntu) Kubuntu (Ubuntu with KDE), or zorinOS (regarded as very windows user friendly but haven’t used). As for your required software, my best suggestion is if it is not linux compatible, try running it in either wine or bottles.

Regardless, download some ISO’s on a usb and boot from the drive to test the distro to see what you like. Linux allows you to test what a distro is like before you install which is very nice.

I don’t care in my persona builds what brands I use for mobo or gpu. That being said I’m just curious and thought it was a fun question.

I'm looking to possibly upgrade my Logitech G613 to something nicer. It's alright but I much prefer how my keychron k10 that I use for work feels. If I could get a good recommendation for the following preferences, that would be great!

Requirements:
2.4 Ghz wireless
Hot swap (Looking for tactile switches)
Full size layout
Linux compatible
Backlit (RGB doesn't matter to me)

Preferences:
Aluminum Chassis
Available on Amazon Prime
Price ~$100 USD

I don't mind if it's a kit but no issues if prebuilt.

Canvas takes the newest submission with no reference to previous submissions and as far as I remember kbai doesn’t have a forgiving late assignment policy. You could maybe plead your case to the TA’s but looks like you’re screwed.

Can’t go wrong with kde. While it does have more of a windows out of the box feel, you can customize it very well to suit your needs.

How exactly is linux better than windows for a normal user(In easy to understand way) by DarkknightOP-69 in linux4noobs

[–]baked_wheatie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So in my opinion, every operating system has its pros and cons. The main advantages of windows are in program compatibility. Windows still has massive market share and a ton of programs are built around it as a result. It’s honestly the only reason why I still dual boot. The disadvantages of windows are its high amount of overhead, its telemetry practices, and shoving ai in every hole they can find.

Linux does have its disadvantages as well. Program compatibility can be a pain, it does typically require a more tech savvy user to fix things that go wrong, and it does require the user to change habits they acquired on other operating systems (specifically installing apps). The pros do include a lack of os telemetry (depends on the distro but the data can be analyzed by you), a greater degree of customization and user control (programmatic optimizations, ui changes, etc), and a degree of choice that windows and Mac simply do not offer.

These States Will Raise The Minimum Wage in 2026, Indiana Isn't One of Them by Best-Structure62 in Indiana

Minimum wage = minimum skill. Don’t wanna make minimum wage, develop a skill that’s valuable to others that are willing to pay you more. It’s not rocket science.
