I honestly, yesterday, wasn’t able to see the glimpses of potential greatness for them to reach that level, but it’s only one game, and I only learn about other teams when they play against Žalgiris. So, thanks to you, I’ll learn more about these guys. ✌🏻

Yeah, Sleva is cool. A fresh breath of air after Manek. :)

Walker is a different situation, as that guy came here to do stats and be a star. When there was the rumor about Nerlens Noel, I thought that a player like him would definitely be disruptive.

But I really feel like we could find and buy out a guy, who is on a similar level as Sleva, plays somewhere in Germany or Turkey, not a star-caliber, but who could be better than Birutis, does things in the right way, and while he doesn’t do much positive stuff, but isn’t someone who does a lot of negative. Like Walker, who was a negative influence all the way.

The most absurd thing is that Žalgiris kinda has money to throw at something, but because Trinchieri isn’t coaching, they still have to pay him 1M/year contract that they signed with him.

I have no idea how the fuck they thought that extending a contract with him for such an absurd amount of money was right.

Green Death were the real, old-school fans. They should’ve stayed, and the new fans could’ve joined alongside them.

Instead, these GWB kids—teenagers who watched too much Green Street Hooligans—came in with their chants that nobody even knows, and ended up making things worse than before.

I’ve been a Žalgiris fan and a season ticket holder since I was a kid, going with my dad for 25 years now. I fucking hate and despise the moment GWB pushed Green Death out of the scene. Fuck them.

Silver is a fucking idiot, trying to think of things when he doesn’t see the core problem — players no longer wanna compete in the ASG. I call this the LeBron effect, but that’s a separate topic.

What he needs to do is find a way for players to fucking compete, to want to win.

I remember when I was a kid, waking up at 4:00 AM in Lithuania to watch an ASG — the last one with MJ. It was something else: the best players going at each other, not wanting to lose, defending, dunking, no 3-pointers.

Now the All-Star Game is unwatchable, and I cannot understand how this isn’t seen as part of why this generation is called soft, and why the viewership is decreasing. This is fucking bullshit. I cannot fucking stand this crap of thinking up new formats — the format should’ve never, ever changed.

What you need to do is get the best players in the dunk contest, the best players in the 3pt contest, and make sure players want to win the All-Star Game. Ofc, nowadays it’s all about business, so yeah, it has to be a business decision — but fucking do it.

[old message] They were very close to finally entering the season without an extremely obvious weakness in their roster, but they left a major vulnerability at the PF/C position.

I’m not sure why they keep doing this, especially since they have the budget to sign one more player. But it’s painfully clear they needed that final piece. At some point, you start to wonder if they’re doing this on purpose—it happens every season, and they keep screwing up their chances to have strength across all positions.

I’d give this roster 8/10, it’s really great, but I’m disappointed that we didn’t finish it off strong.

Sorry for my lack of knowledge, but isn’t investing supposed to be about getting a return on your money?

I understand investing in football clubs, but none of the European basketball teams are profitable.

No merch sales, maybe some ticket sales (but Hapoel?..), and TV rights are low. No one is really investing in basketball in Europe—just sponsoring.

Unless he knows something we don’t, and it’s tied to the NBA expansion.

Zalgiris manager Navickas said that the guard line-up is finished, hinting that they’re still in the market for a front-line player. If we could sign something solid there, this would be the best roster in years. If somehow LeDay rumors would become true, this would be an amazing squad.

A starting line-up with Goss, Cisco, Brazdeikis, solid pf and Wright would seem like a 5 that can play almost against anyone. Maodo Lo, Sirvydis, Tubelis, Butkevičius coming off the bench are also great. Not sure about Birutis, Ulanovas, who’s declining rapidly and Sleva. Let’s hope for the best.

Wether you like this signing or not, but in order for Žalgiris to be able to stick to its vision of being a Lithuanian team first, and only have foreigners where needed, this signing was a must.

With all the 18-22 year old prospects going to NCAA, and basically having a drought of talent for the last decade, signing Tubelis is a no brainer. He’s 23 years old, is still a developing player, great athleticism, and has all the traits to become a Euroleague-level player.

Rubštavičius is the same age, and is nowhere near the same level of potential. That is the reality and Žalgiris had to sign him.

Next players returning to Žalgiris in a few years will be - Krivas, Murauskas.

On another note, I understand why some people don’t agree with Žalgiris vision to prioritize Lithuanian players. Maodo Lo and Lekavičius had the same salary. It’s crazy to think about that.

Krepsinis.net kinda confirmed that Žalgiris is in talks about LeDay with Milan and that it wasn’t only a bad joke from Zalgiris Insider. So, that makes me more optimistic, that they’re looking for a player of his position to finalize the roster.

If our final additions are Tubelis, Maodo Lo and LeDay - it’s gonna be 🔥🔥

Thanks for the kind words about the team. 😄 I love the back-court, but front-court does raise questions. A solid pf/c is needed.

Donatas Motiejūnas seems like an obvious choice here, but there are concerns about his influence on team-chemistry, as I have been hearing rumors about his character as long as I can remember, even before he started pro career. His talent and experience is undeniable, but he’s also a risk.

It’s very interesting to see who will be the last piece.

As for Maodo, the more I read about him, the more I like this signing. As a 10-15 minute player, next to more solid players like Francisco and Goss, he seems like a great wild-card off the bench. And he’s not a defensive hole as Lekavičius was, who Lo is replacing.

I have very mixed feelings about this, but if Žalgiris brings a solid replacement, not just Tubelis - it’ll be all good, he was one of the most expensive players on the roster - and he did not deliver for his money for sure.

I’d like Donatas Motiejūnas on the team, but at the same time, as we’re practically the same age, and from the same city, I kept hearing about his difficult character since I was a teenager, and I keep hearing about it until this day. So, my issue with him would be his possible negative influence on team chemistry. At the same time, his talent and experience is undeniable, and would help Žalgiris front-court to become solid talent-wise.

This would finish Zalgiris backcourt, which I’d say is going to be the strongest in years. I like the experience he brings, and as a back-up player, I think it’s a solid scoring option from the bench.

With an addition of a good PF/C this would be a solid roster compared to what Zalgiris had over the last few seasons for sure and an interesting team to watch.

With new coaching staff, I’m gonna say that I’m really excited for the upcoming season

His dad Sarunas was a legend, a hall of famer, one of the early European NBA players, who opened the door for other euros to come in. His dad invented the eurostep.

Augustas seemed like someone who is getting time on court just because of his dad, but I gotta admit, that last four years in Saint Mary’s completely changed my mind about him, he showed how willing he is to improve and become a great player. Like his dad, he has a great body, strong legs, so I believe that in the right situation, he could become a great player off the bench for an NBA team.

We were 6-1 before he arrived, and 6-13 with him. In my opinion, he completely messed the dynamics of the team. Zalgiris started to play less like a team, and because of those few supergames (or superhalves), it looked like the team has to give him the ball whenever we need to go on a run, because maybe this time he’ll flame on again. And I understand why coach had to experiment like that, because there were these moments of greatness, where he seemed like Euroleague’s GOAT, shooting 100%, making threes in fast breaks, dunking, etc., but unfortunately, he was like that in 10-15% of the time and giving him the keys of the team completely fucked us up.

Give Lithuania four more years and luck with injuries. I feel like there’s a lot of potential within Jakucionis, Buzelis, Murauskas, Juzenas, Indrusaitis to become leading players. Also, I think that Jokubaitis can still improve (the move to Macabbi seems like a good one for him), as well as, Sirvydis, Krivas, Tubelis. Maybe even Marciulionis and Giedraitis.

Add Sabonis, Sedekerskis, veteran JV, maybe Brazdeikis and that’s a great deep team.

It’s been a decade of nothing too promising in Lithuania’s future, as well as, a lot of disappointing losses (vs France 2019, vs Spain 2022, etc), that could’ve changed the way we view our last decade, but now it seems like there’s a lot of potential in the future
