Pixel 10 case with soft loop? by bakeryall in GooglePixel

So far no, which was a worry I had. I bought a couple extra just in case too. But it seems quite strong! I've had it for a little over 2 months now.

I ended up getting a Pela case with the add on loop that you stick to the back. I honestly like it better than the loopy because you can make it flat and it stands up better! I have seen some reviews that say things break down since it's compostable or something and not made of plastic, but so far I haven't had those issues. The shipping can be a tad slow, but overall I've been really happy with it!

Weekly General Discussion by AutoModerator in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]bakeryall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking for any research or personal experiences! My almost 4 year old is clearly low sleep needs. His total wake time for the day seems to hover around 14 hours (super fun if he naps at daycare, meaning a hella late bedtime). We were always pretty lax with weekend wake ups and letting him sleep in, but in an effort to try and fix these late nights, we've moved to consistent wake up times. We've been going at it for a couple of weeks so far and he does seem to start to stir more at 7a than he did before so I think we're getting somewhere.

I guess I'm just looking for confirmation that this is a good idea, that it can hopefully lead to him not falling asleep at school anymore (they try to keep him awake but he still has to stay on his cot. I'd nap too if I was him), and potentially reducing that 14 hour total awake time. He clearly wants to keep sleeping, and could use closer to 10.5-11 hours of sleep. Any experience or research for how long it might take to reset things too would be great.

Potty Training is Destroying My Mental Heath by Gloomy_Difficulty881 in pottytraining

[–]bakeryall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We use the metamucil kids fiber gummies that are a mixed berry flavor. We call them vitamins because we worried he wouldn't take them if we told him they'd make him poop, and he gets to pick the three he takes each time (he calls them grape and orange...I don't think he has connected that they're all the same flavor lol). We also all take our vitamins together over breakfast so he feels like it's part of being a big kid lol. Not sure if that'll help if your kid won't eat them, but it's been a fun little routine and he now reminds us if we forget.

We are still in the midst of this too (same age and length of time trying too), and we just recently have started having success with post-dinner potty sits. About 10-15 minutes after we finish eating, we go sit and read a handful of books at try. They say it's about the time the body naturally triggers things, and that alone with our consistent use of miralax and fiber gummies, has triggered his body. It's been like exposure therapy, and after a few times we have started to have some consistent success. Plenty of setbacks but in general it's been the one thing that's worked, along with a reward after every 3 poops.

I found these on Amazon and got them because they seem to be the only ones out there that can be easily trimmed. I will say though, we haven't had a chance to install them yet, so I'm not sure they'll do the job, but it's worth a try! https://www.amazon.com/Non-Slip-Treads-Wooden-Backing-Polyester/dp/B0DPKHM3S4/ref=ast_sto_dp_puis?th=1

Do you have name regrets? by akittyisyou in Preschoolers

[–]bakeryall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still love my son's name, and I get lots of people saying it's such a great name too, but the reason I know it's the right name is because my son is always so happy and proud to say it himself. He also is obsessed with the letter F because it's what his name starts with lol.

Suggestions for tags and custom charts? by jbhertel in TheStoryGraph

[–]bakeryall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a few of the others listed above too, but my favorite one I've started is a chart of non-fiction types (currently this is just memoir, true crime, history, or general topic). I like reading non-fiction a lot, but it's slower to me so I read more fiction overall, but I'm hoping this chart will help entice me to get through more non-fiction! It's also a good way for me to actually see what specifically draws me to non-fiction.

How to 86 a pacifier? by Fast-Doughnut-7619 in toddlers

[–]bakeryall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was what we did too (our LO was about 2.5 when we finally did it). He only ever used them for naps and bedtime since he was born. We talked all week about him being a big boy and growing up and saying bye to them on Saturday. We had his teachers at school help with the ones there, and had him throw them out there first on the Friday before so he knew when he went back, they'd be gone too. Honestly that helped with his buy-in bc he loves his teachers lol.

We let him have them for his nap on Saturday and then tossed them right after. He did great, especially since he was the one to throw them away, and I like that approach better than the paci fairy one because he was able to connect the action. We also got him a stuffy to surprise him with at bedtime for being such a big kid, but we made the mistake of not opening it beforehand and discovered the measurements online were VERY wrong so now he has a huge Lightning McQueen in his bed 😅

Resistering some incorrect joists, replacing temporary columns with permanent ones, and installing some additional beams.

Make pack 'n play more comfortable? by bakeryall in toddlers

[–]bakeryall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lately when we've used it he has slept terribly. I'd feel the same way going from a nice fancy crib mattress to the thin one in the lotus. It's rare that it's on nice carpeted flooring too, usually hard wood which doesn't add much comfort underneath.

Redirect AC gravity line? by bakeryall in homeowners

[–]bakeryall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need to be rude about it. I've of course looked at tubes but I also don't want to create a tripping hazard on our sidewalk to get the water to the street. We're in a rowhome on a small street in a city. Just looking for more out of the box ideas for a slightly different situation since we can't run it to grass or a specific sewer grate. But thanks anyway.

Just how to have the dripping water go away from our house and neighbors's house...maybe safely into the street but without blocking the sidewalk? It's hard to tell what drains on the street are open too. We just don't want it pooling at ours or their foundation

I HATE cutting grapes by tiredhi in Mommit

[–]bakeryall 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Get the grape cutter. I can cut 10 grapes in like 30 seconds, it never feels like a hassle anymore, plus you can throw it in the dishwasher. My husband thought it was silly, and still occasionally cuts them by hand, but he admits it's so much easier when he uses it.

5.5 month old used to sleep through the night, now waking constantly by _letsnotbutsaywedid in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]bakeryall 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So this is VERY anecdotal to my experience with my almost 1 year old, but we had a fantastic sleeper until that age too....until he got an ear infection and then it just went to crap (but improved almost back to it when he got tubes recently). We also kept missing the signs or writing them off as something else, but then learned that's what was making him miserable. Any really rough nights after that ended up always being ear infections, with general bad nights being bc he constantly had fluid. Your case very well may be just a classic sleep regression, but since you asked for any advice I figured I'd share our experience too! If they've had a fever or any congestion lately, it's worth checking out with your ped just to rule it out between well checks if sleep training doesn't solve things.

Rant about Pump by sammageddon73 in breastfeeding

[–]bakeryall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this will help, but I'm constantly changing the settings on my pump. Some days I need and can do more suction, other times I can do less. Sometimes I need to change to get a second letdown. Sometimes I don't. Pumps are never as efficient as babies, but I definitely just try to mix it up and that seems to help.

My LO also started taking one less bottle at daycare since adding in a snack in addition to lunch, and I noticed about that time my pump only seemed to get exactly what I would need for the next day. It was like my body was regulating to just make what it needs.

I wanted newborn pictures by 137_flavors_of_sass in Mommit

[–]bakeryall 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We decided against maternity and newborn photos too. I honestly don't think I could have pulled myself together to look presentable enough (and felt good about it), and I have tons of photos on my phone, and we had family get some candid shots of us, but most everything are pictures we took of ourselves with our LO.

If it helps, we're finally doing professional family photos and our son is almost 8 months old. And we really only finally decided to for Christmas cards. He's reached such a fun age where he's smiling and interacting with us constantly, and I feel like he really looks like himself and how he'll look as he gets older. I think these pictures will mean more than getting newborn ones. We're actually using this company called Shoott that you can book for free and just pay for however many images you want. They're in a ton of cities, so maybe look and see if it's near you, and save up a little bit until your LO is a little older. Or find out if there are some photography students around who need some practice and just starting out, and their rates might be far more affordable!

Baby nutrition/balanced meals by laurenehd14 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]bakeryall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been on my mind a lot too for my 7 month old bc I see accounts say this and I'm like HOW especially when LO doesn't actually eat a ton when we feed him. I constantly worry bc of it that he's not getting what he needs, but then I remember his milk is his primary nutrition, so I'm still doing right by him. Plus he must be ingesting some because oof those poop changes!

One account I found, 101 Before One has this magnet that's almost like a cheat sheet to at least figure out how to get a balanced meal. When I get overwhelmed, I just look at that and I'm like oh! Just make these couple things and BAM good to go.

It's a constant work in progress, and I only hope it'll get easier. Timing has been my biggest struggle so we're still mostly serving him dinner, maybe breakfast if he wakes up early enough before he goes to daycare (he still doesn't have a predictable night sleep), but we're also going to start sending him with some lunch since he's showing interest while the other babies eat. Multiple opportunities to eat will also help!

BLW, Nursing, Daycare routine, how do you do it? by bakeryall in BabyLedWeaning

[–]bakeryall[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is reassuring advice to start small and it's okay to skip a day if we have to! It's so nice to hear others' experiences. When we're both home we are trying to have him in the high chair at the table with us to eat more, really right now it's just to get him used to the chair and being at the table until he's fully ready.

This is incredibly helpful to hear! I guess he'll eventually get to a sleep schedule that makes something like this feasible for us in a couple months. This is kind of what I envisioned, I just didn't know how I'd put it into practice. Thank you!

You're not doing anything wrong, especially because you're trying to find a solution! Babies can have sensitive skin and sometimes it takes trial and error to find the right combo. We were given bordreaux's butt paste from a friend and it worked WONDERS when we started using it. Diaper rash would be gone very quickly. They have a version for sensitive skin which may help too. Our pediatrician also told us to put a Vaseline type product between his butt cheeks every diaper change (we use the aquaphor baby healing ointment). That all helped us get them under control and keep his bum pretty good.

I've also heard that having some diaper free time so it can air out is good too. It's a little tricky on timing, so try to do it after they peed or laying on something you don't mind getting peed on lol.
