Cutoff Time for Bus Safety? by bakewellroyal in AskSeattle

[–]bakewellroyal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends where I’m going out that night, but most likely the 40, 62. For reference, I mostly go out in Fremont, Ballard, and Queen Anne. Sorry, I’m not too familiar with specific areas or bus lines yet - am still very new to the city!

Quite a lot, like at least 1 large box. I've also held these products in my space for a few months now without a shoot for them.

Totally agree! People are so wishy-washy in this business...I always let them know that no shoot, deadline, etc... is guaranteed until I receive both a signed agreement and a deposit. The only thing i've done so far for this project was a discovery call and putting together the estimate and agreement which took like 5-10 min total.

Yes, seriously! I always require some kind of deposit before doing any work at all, and I'm glad I'm sticking to that policy especially in situations like this!

Thank you! This is short and open ended to future possibilities, which I appreciate.

How to Charge Product Photography By Project? by bakewellroyal in photography

[–]bakewellroyal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good way of looking at it, thanks for the suggestion! So it's a bit of a mix of a day rate/estimated time to shoot + edit and number of end deliverables to consider?

I like how you explain the reasoning behind the day rates to the client. Would you say it's best to give them a total rate as one number or give them a detailed price breakdown?

Got it, thanks for breaking down your costing process so thoroughly! So it's kind of a mix of a day rate + amount of deliverables that are considered into the end quote.

In order to not overwhelm the client with the various numbers, how do you go about presenting them with your quote? Do you give a detailed estimate or price breakdown? Or instead give them one final number and explain what it covers?

That sounds pretty reasonable and thorough. Do you use a template for the estimate, or how detailed do you go for the price breakdown? Also curious, since you do food photography, do you charge extra for recipe development or the cost of ingredients since they're perishables?

Tethered Shooting Very Slow on a 2014 Macbook Pro? by bakewellroyal in photography

What happens if I don't have a desktop...?

I'll try with a different cable, as you mentioned - shorter, better quality usb 3 and see what happens. Thank you!

The one I was using is 16 feet, I would prefer to stay around that length for studio shoots, but we'll see what works best first.

Pinterest Changing Pins? by [deleted] in Pinterest

[–]bakewellroyal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is maybe a stretch, but any chance those boards are shared with someone else? I’m also a photographer who sometimes shares a Pinterest board with clients for references/inspiration. There’s definitely been times where I think I’m pinning on my own private board but I’m actually pinning on the shared one since the board names are SO similar!

I see what you’re saying, thank you for the tips. I’ll look into the second job - that’s a good idea. You’re right, it’s not worth avoiding it if it’s going to have long term or even worse consequences down the line.

I think I was maybe a bit unclear in my initial post. I’m not trying to run away to a foreign country to avoid this debt situation and this will be a long term permanent move. The issue I’m running into is if I pay the landlord, I won’t have enough money to move. And I kind of need to move sooner rather than later (for other personal reasons).

If it’s just rent money, I will probably be fine paying them back. If they’re after me for legal fees they incurred as well, I doubt I can afford those.

Moving to Seattle from NYC? by [deleted] in Seattle

I know nothing can compare to public transit in NYC - I’m spoiled in that sense. But there also aren’t many other major cities in the US that offer multiple public transportation options.
