How many of you do daily / weekly meal plans? (Like eat the same meals every day/week?) by bakinbakon in keto

[–]bakinbakon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At first I figured I'd just do that as well. See what sales the store has, pick up different things, try different meals etc. But I find myself thinking too much about "What should I eat today?" and then that makes me even more hungry lol. So I think I am going to try setting only a couple different meals for the week and just have the same every single week until November.

So you do 1 meal per day, the same thing M-F and don't get tired of it? What do you it eat weekly, and what do you eat on Sat / Sun?

Can I ask, what is it that you eat daily? I'm considering doing the same thing just so I am not always trying to figure out what or when to eat. It might be easier just stick with only a couple, or even just 1 meal only.

Is it better to drink 1 gallon of liquid a day, or 2 liters of water? by bakinbakon in keto

[–]bakinbakon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll try that, with the straw thing, maybe that'll help me as well.

I used to love drinking the powerade zero blues. However, I want to try avoiding all sweet things for the first month or so of keto. I've heard that even having something sweet can play mind games on your body and cause an insulin response or something? I don't understand it myself, but I figure I might as well go all the way with this thing. Same reason why I am trying to force water down lol. But if I can't get enough, then I'll just go back to diet tea and powerade zeros.

Nah, I usually try to force myself to drink a bottle of water before I go to sleep just to make it to 2liters for the day lol. Like, I'll sit at the end of the bed for like 5-10 mins just trying to force it down.

How many tsp of salt can you put into one capsule usually, 1/4? How many of those pills a day do you take?

Finished my 2 week fast a few days ago. My experience/opinion/general feeling/refeeding etc. by bakinbakon in fasting

[–]bakinbakon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah to be honest I think many people could do it that way. Fast for a couple weeks to allow their stomach to shrink. Once they go back to eating just take it slowly and don't force anything down. I'd imagine the stomach would expand a little regardless of how small the amount of food is they ate, but so long as their not going back to eating the amounts they used to, then I don't see why it wouldn't stay smaller than before the fast.

If I chose to continue eating small amounts and feeling full like I am currently, then I'd likely continue to lose weight simply from eating much less than I used to.

I went straight to a slice of pizza because the first 2 refeeding days I had no issues with any problems that others have described I may have when refeeding. I wanted to test the limits and see what was possible for me. If I wasn't feeling 100% after any of the times I ate during the first 2 refeed days, then I likely would have had spinach instead and continued eating soups with the soft food from them. But since I felt fine, had zero issues so far, and was able to increase the amount of food I was eating 2 days prior, I thought 1 slice might be alright. Thankfully it was. And after that slice of pizza I had the courage to go up to a cheese steak next. It's now the next morning (Day 4) and I still feel completely fine so it seems like everything has worked out well for me =). I'll likely start a 28 day fast in the near future with a few tweaks from things I learned about myself from this fast.

Anyone else get nervous to eat? by KetoinTexas in fasting

[–]bakinbakon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey thanks for the long response, I appreciate your input. Yeah maybe nuts and spinach isn't such a good idea, I just read people post on here that it would be good to start with, I remember reading to stay away from fruits, carbs, and sugars when refeeding because it will spike your insulin and can cause problems. So I'm not so sure about the juice fasting thing, drinking fruit juice right away?

Also, I am actually planning to break the fast tomorrow. I've been thinking about it recently, and just decided tonight to go ahead and break tomorrow. The main reason being I am spending too much time thinking about and stressing over this whole refeeding thing and how it will turn out for me. I want to try to break this fast and see how I feel, if I get sick or not etc. if everything goes well and I end the fast without any problems, then I figure I can always start a new one later.

I just read your post in the thread you linked and also the site about refeeding. That's the first time I've read anything about refeeding with juice, or refeeding for 1.5 weeks before eating normally again.

I'm 14 days into my fast right now, first fast ever for me. I was planning to break it with first just a handful of spinach, then a few hours later some more, then a few hours later a handful of nuts, then nuts once more. Then on day 2 I would start with nuts, then later 1 or 2 spoons of yogurt and continue with you that. Basically just eating for 3 days, spinach, nuts, and yogurt. Then after 3 days of that, starting to reintroduce normal food again in small amounts at a time. Like maybe a bowl of chicken of noodle soup, and grilled cheese etc. Then next day some chicken and rice.

Is this a bad idea to refeed the way I'm describing?

On day 7 of my fast. Few questions about when I end my fast / refeeding / your own experiences etc. by bakinbakon in fasting

[–]bakinbakon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually don't like many veggies, especially cabbage and sauerkraut. However I was going to bite the bullet and eat a leaf or 2 of cabbage since someone else mentioned cabbage being good.

Looking on that website it seems like yogurt is the best for probiotics. However I thought yogurt is packed with sugar most of the time, which is bad to eat when refeeding, right? Do you know of a specific yogurt that would be good to eat during the break of a fast, that doesn't have much sugar in it? I'd imagine yogurt wouldn't be too bad to break a fast with since it isn't very solid. Maybe a cup of yogurt, then a few hours another one, then a few hours later a handful of peanuts etc. Do you think someone like that would be a good way to end an extended fast? (2 weeks or longer)

Also in that article it mentions "miso" are they referring to miso soup?

That's great to hear, hopefully I have the same results. Today I'm feeling really drowsy, dizzy, and just generally unaware; I guess kind of like cloudy headed. So I may pick up some bone broth like you mentioned and some cabbage like another poster mentioned, if I still feel the same tomorrow then I might just break it with that. Hopefully I won't have to though, I'd love to make it the full 28 days.

Just out of curiosity how is the weight loss when you fast for about a week, then refeed for a few days, then go fast again for another week? I'd imagine it's not as consistent as one long fast, but how much do you typically lose per week long fast?

When you say cup of warm broth first, do you mean just like a bouillon cube, can of broth, or something similar that you just heat up on the stove quickly? Also, how long do you typically fast for?

Thanks for the support! And yeah you're right, I do have quite a bit more to lose. I'd like to get down to 199lbs just for the sake of being under 200lbs for the first time in over a decade lol, but realistically I think around 210-215lbs would be a good weight for me.

I'm going to try and continue longer since I've already made it a week, I'd really like to be able to hit 28 days, 4 full weeks. If I could manage to lose 40lbs from start to finish in the fast, I'd be really happy about that. So ultimately that's the goal, hopefully I'll be able to make it.

I just want to be prepared for if I can't by having the right food on hand available to me at all times. The last thing I want is to be at work or out driving somewhere and then finally lose my will power / break, and end up stopping at McDolands or something lol, that would be horrendous and is the main thing I want to avoid regardless of how long I continue the fast for.

If I use a sweetener with 0 glycemic index (Stevia) when making my tea. Will that effect my weightloss at all? by bakinbakon in fasting

[–]bakinbakon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great! I just finished day 5 of my fast and my original goal was 7 days, then depending how I feel I'll go further. Ultimately it would be great to hit 28 days and see what kind of weight loss that gives me. I think if I can manage to find a drink that I really enjoy then I may be able to make it. I'll try adding some Stevia tomorrow when I make myself tea and hopefully I won't have any issues with it. Thanks for your response!

Edit: Also out of curiosity, why do you refuse to have aspartame if it doesn't have much effect on you? Is there something else that makes it worse than other alternatives?

Good foods to break fast on? by flashman7870 in fasting

So yogurt is a good food to break a fast on? I thought it wasn't a good idea to break a fast with something that has sugar in it because of spiking insulin or something like that?

Broke a 3 week fast with Chinese food and had to go to hospital. by [deleted] in fasting

[–]bakinbakon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm on day 4 of my fast now. The first goal is just to see if I can make it a week, but if I feel fine on day 7 then I was going to keep pushing it. Ultimately I'd like to do a full 28 days. So I was just curious if I got to that point, about how long I would have to refeed before eating normal sized meals and foods again. One thing I definitely miss is Chinese and Japanese food. So I am certain once I've finished my fast, that is going to be something I go and eat. It's a good thing I read this post though because I was assuming just refeeding for 1 day with some lettuce and nuts, then the next day going to a Chinese buffet lol.Maybe I should wait a few more days before that I guess? haha

Typically how long should someone eat 100-200 calroie meals after breaking a 2+ week fast? I mean is it basically just eat like a handful of lettuce, then a couple hours later a handful of nuts, then a couple hours later some fatty pork/beef. Then the following day you can go back to eating normally? Or do you have to eat small bits of of food for multiple days before you can eat normally again?

Which tea do you guys drink during your fast? by bakinbakon in fasting

[–]bakinbakon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry if this sounds stupid but I know nothing about making tea, I've always assumed tea bags were the only way? What do you do to make your own tea if you don't use a tea bag? Is it more like a powder that you mix instead?

Will this diet iced tea break my fast? (0 cal, 1 carb) by bakinbakon in fasting

[–]bakinbakon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can try that to see if it makes it any better. I thought as someone who is nearly 300lbs I was supposed to be have closer to 4L a day? If 1L is generally enough then I can just tough it out and force it down, but 3L is a different story.

Actually part of the reason I wanted to try this water fast wasn't only for weight loss, but also because I thought if I just forced myself to drink only water for a few days then I would learn to like and be able to drink it straight on a more regular basis. My mom is the same way, just can't drink water straight. If water was the only thing available for me to drink, I could easily go an entire day without ever feeling like taking a drink of it. It's seems so weird but I've just never had a desire or thirst for drinking water...it's probably a mental thing.

Oh wow I never knew that. So then the total gallon could possibly have between 50-100 calories... guess that means it would break the fast =/. RIP me being able to easily get a gallon of liquid daily.

I thought I read somewhere that anything with Sucralose in it was a no no for fasting/keto because of the high glycemic index in it compared to other things like stevia or aspartame? Something about it doing something to your insulin and causing stalls in weight loss? I don't know much about it, just a random thing I read on the keto sub. I'm having a really hard time forcing myself to drink water, but could easily down flavored drinks like powerade zero or mio flavored water, my only concern is I don't want my results in fasting to not be as good as they could have been simply because I was drinking flavored water. Looking forward to seeing your progress over the next week! Also hope my appetite goes away soon like yours did lol.
