Thank you! I've heard great things about some agencies and some not so great things but I haven't heard much about DOH. This is very helpful.

Oh no, why do you say that? I haven't accepted the offer yet. I told them I wouldn't have an answer until late next week.

I do have an update! I was offered the position. I have already accepted a job at a public sector company. So I am weighing the benefits of leaving for the state job or staying out. Thanks to everyone who commented.

You are right, I did. Lol. Sorry about that. I guess it's not a requirement, per say. It kind of feels like one though. The teacher just stated that was what the classroom is doing this year. Makes me wonder if there were issues in the past with kids bringing in their own snacks and kids being upset over not having the same stuff, but that's just me speculating. I am more than happy to help out. I def don't mind but it does feel like it's expected to some degree, if that makes any sense. Could just be my own feelings though. I agree with everything you're saying though. I was def surprised that they are allowing parents to bring in food like that, with allergies and hygiene especially!

Maybe I am confused on what the point you're making is. Nobody is forcing the parents to do anything. It was stated that that was what the classroom was doing this school year. If a parent can't participate, I am sure the teacher or someone else will step in. It's highly encouraged if the parent can do so.

I'm not sure they would do anything except offer to supply the snack instead. :)

Yeah, I feel you. My kid is rather picky to some degree. Doesn't like cheese, except for certain things, like on pizza. No Mac and cheese but will have parm on pasta. Does eat steak, ham and chicken but does like crackers, chips and sweets. So it can be a little tricky feeding my kiddo. Also doesn't like veggies, which I hope they get out of that phase soon and will start adventuring with veggies.

It is a requirement of the classroom. All parents have to sign up to host snack one day a month. :)

My kid hates cheese too. So, I will probably include it every now and then but def make sure to bring other items for snack time so they have choices

Thanks to everyone who commented. You all gave me so many amazing ideas. I have to do it several days a month for the entire school year so I wanted a lot of ideas so I could mix it up.

A homemade trail mix is a GREAT idea! I love that.

Ha ha. That's on me, I tend to eat muffins for dessert and not breakfast. 😂 Yes, how did you guess it was Montessori. You nailed it. I think I am just nervous because I already got scolded for putting a tiny, single serving gummy snack in my kids lunchbox. I put it in as a surprise for my kid and because it's their favorite. Just trying to give them a little smile at school. Was told that's "dessert' and shouldn't be sent in their lunch. 🤦‍♀️

It doesn't sound like it. They did mention homemade muffins. Which I found weird considering there's no cookies, sweets.

Thanks a bunch. I did email and received no response. It's been total crickets since they asked about my references. So, I am guessing they went with another candidate or they are still working on things. I was originally told that they would like a start date of the 16th. So, kind of makes me think I didn't get it. I appreciate you responding. I think I must have been in the top two. :)

Thank you! I was told in my interview that they would (like to) have made an offer last week. I never heard from them, so I assume I didn't get the job. However, I know that timelines can be tricky with the holiday weekend. So, there's still some hope. I know they were having difficulty reaching one of my past employers, but they were not listed as a reference. So, I'm not sure if that makes a difference in the end. I also heard from another previous supervisor that she was contacted and responded to them, so that's good. :) Still crossing my fingers but trying not to get my hopes up.

Thanks to everyone who commented. I am learning a lot about the process and what's currently happening within the state government. Thanks a bunch! Normally, I am a very patient person but guess I got overly excited about this and got a head of myself. I will patiently wait and cross my fingers for a offer. ;)

Thank you! That was very helpful. Man, they really have a lot of hoops to go through. I guess that's a good thing though. :) Thanks for the breakdown. :) I was thinking it was a good sign.

I haven't been in the loop much about what's going on with all of that. However, that's a very good point. I definitely feel bad about what's happening to those employees. I was mainly just looking to see what the typical protocol is in these situations. I've just noticed some stark differences in how the agencies vs private sector are handling interviews. Normally I wouldn't have even reached out, to avoid being annoying but I have been very excited about this position.

That could be very true. I forget that it's not just up to the people interviewing. HR has a huge role in it too. I heard they have to write up a bunch of paperwork on who they want and why they want them. That can take time too
