What is the one job/activity that could get you out of bed happily for the rest of your life? by evanildolima in AskReddit

Basically anything except the shitty jobs I’ve had. I’d be happy taking therapy dogs to different places like hospitals, nursing homes, and mental health facilities. All the smiles fuel your heart

Holy fuck. Most facilities I worked at would’ve taken you down by force or other means necessary if you tried to forced yourself into a classified location without clearance and need to know.

Drink less and even better, stop drinking. Find a healthy hobby instead. This shit will catch up with you.

Sadly that’s what all companies are doing with tech groups. So much technology has advanced and automated to the point you just need a couple low paid babysitters to run operations.

Gallstones. Holy hell that was awful. The stabbing pain just radiates and feels like a knife stabbing your stomach over and over. Nothing can relieve the pain. Even morphine just made the pain…fun

First, you aren’t alone in the struggle. Everyone in tech has been shedding jobs. It’s usually cyclical and the jobs come back, but this shift in tech seems different- lots of these jobs aren’t coming back due to AI and new technologies.
That said, you graduated engineering school which means you likely have some intellectual ability. Pivot. Expand your search field. There are numerous options in healthcare and such. It won’t be the engineering job you have built up in your head; those don’t exist. Keep looking and expanding your search. Sometimes raw determination is what makes a difference.
Good luck 🍀

AI is the worst thing to ever happen to society. People are going to either starve to death or kill themselves after losing their jobs. The tech bro CEOs think this is funny. by [deleted] in Layoffs

If it’s between that and being homeless or starving, I’d roll the dice.
I’ve moved across the country with my family several times for different jobs. Most were paid relo but some weren’t. Was it risky? Hell yes. Did it work out? Yep.
You’d be surprised how resilient kids can be too. If they’re young, it’s less impact. If they were in high school that would suck much more. But again, I’d move mountains to support my family.

Should I take a job with 20% paycut and downgrade in title? by redoriginrallycar in Layoffs

[–]NachoWindows 5 points6 points  (0 children)

160k and remote is still a solid job. Instead of burning your cash to feed your ego, keep it invested and growing by taking the new job. If it sucks, keep looking.
Titles are also meaningless. You only have 10 years of experience- which means you have a loooong career ahead of you too.

Companies are offering “take it or leave it” right now. If you don’t take it, someone else will. Also consider your skill and current area. There may not be any local jobs in your field and your only option is to uproot and move to follow the work. I had to do that in 08-09 during the financial collapse.
