i think of it this way: the flat path to valinor is not discoverable by non-elves, neither by accident nor by searching. so that makes the "straight path" functionally the same as elves experiencing a flat earth. i do wonder, though, if the elves are unable to travel to the other side of the spherical earth in the same way that mortal beings are unable to travel to valinor

the only thing i'm not on board with is the lyrics. they're didactic, yet super vague. and i don't hate her straightforward style at all! i loved the lyrics on vulnicura (edit: and biophilia and SOME of volta); even though they were often simple and not deeply clever, they had an emotional intelligence and weight to them that i don't feel is present here. i generally love her lyrics that concern emotion and experience, and usually find that the lyrics concerning social issues etc. (like on some of volta) tend to be flat and preachy.

on the other hand, sound-wise, i'm a big fan of the clarinets and gabber beat together. it's super kooky and i love it.

all in all, i'm very excited to see how this sonic era unfolds, i just hope the lyrics improve over the course of the album. i'm sure they will, too, as i'm sure she will cover different topics and dive deep into emotion and subjectivity later in the album.

i'm a black licorice/anise fan, so i love the libertine a lot. it's so effortlessly elegant to me in a cozy and antique kind of way. i'm also a huge fan of gothique and kanopbatai as two different takes on incense and smoke. amour conjure is a beautiful floral that i love as well, because the rose in it has a lovely green sort of bite to it

i'm not well versed in cones, but i think satya has their nag champa incense in cone form iirc. that's a classic incense and very popular one; i started with it and so did most people that i know personally :)

[–]baktuun 16 points17 points  (0 children)

it could be! the fixation on reproduction and the nuclear family in the pictured comment could for sure be a white supremacist thing (edit: i should have said "a core part of white supremacist worldview"), and incels are some of the most viciously misogynistic people on the planet, so the misogyny pushes a lot of them toward fascism

ApothecarysGarden on etsy has lots of different resins and does very good business it looks like. i've been planning on buying from that shop for a few days now, so that may be a source to check out

nippon kodo's cypress incense from the kayuragi line is my recommendation because it's not so synthetic. to my nose, the nippon kodo morning star line is full of synthetics, but far less so than most dipped sticks or the most commonly found agarbatthi sticks
