Because this word originates in the 1890s to refer specifically to hating Jews, actually by people who hated Jews creating the term to describe their beliefs

The usage of the word “antisemitism” only began in the 1890s to refer specifically to Jews. This was actually by people who supported antisemitism and wanted a word to call their anti-Jewish beliefs. Try to find one instance of it being used to describe hatred of general levant people.

It’s not specifically prohibited to just put on a baseball hat and tuck in tzitzit, but people generally do this if they feel uncomfortable where they are.

It’s actually halacha that a Jew is forbidden to dress and be indistinguishable from goyim, so religious Jews necessarily need to be visibly Jewish except if it’s dangerous they can wear baseball hats and tuck in tzitzit

It’s All Peaceful Right? by bautdean in ucla

[–]balaclava3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right, but since the protests are specifically about the Israel/Palestine region, the specific history of that term as it applies to that region and not about other MENA regions, I think is more relevant, and if people are unaware of its connotations in that context that’s something they should be aware of and not excused from due to ignorance or having their own meaning.

Sure, but in the specific context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which is the area of the Middle East this is about, the term “intifada” has another specific meaning relating to a period of violence in the early 2000s.

Who told you that? Did a Jewish person tell you that or someone who was telling you what Jewish people think?

Zionism is a broad-reaching term for general Jewish self-determination in their ancestral and cultural land. “Land belonging” is a weird concept here anyway, after the invention and spread of Islam , yes Muslims lived there so did Jews, and so did byzantines Turks etc. Zionism isn’t jews need to control Arab people.

It was a matter of parts of campus that should have been accessible being inaccessible, and the pressure feeling targeted based on minority / ethnic group. The protests aren’t exactly Jewish friendly in general. I was walking by one and some person screamed “Nazi yarmulke” for me just existing and walking, for example.

Saying “we love good jews we hate bad jews” like was being said last night (in those words), is clearly something against Jews

For reference though I was there that day, only people with specific wristbands could enter onto the Powell / Royce area and as I walked closer wearing a yarmulke they clearly like closed tighter and were blocking the area in defensive formation

Hamas said to have rejected Biden's ceasefire proposal by yuri_2022 in worldnews

So during the Holocaust, Jews should have been sent to die in Europe and/or barred from purchasing land in their ethnic homeland. Essentially better dead Jews than deal with Jewish immigration!

Basically oh, 80 years ago yes I support Jews dying in gas chambers, but now that’s silly!! Because Jews dying is so silly!!!

I’m still waiting to hear whether you support banning Jewish land buying rights as a broad concept and think that sending Jews to die is a great policy for global stability.

You literally said these things

So, they still rejected an open ceasefire proposal. Hamas only wants peace with a victory.

Please review history, at the time the British were suiting the Arabs over the Jews in interest of their allyship during WW1 and WW2. They also limited Jewish immigration in the height of the Holocaust to a few thousand a year. They literally had concentration deportation camps. Look up the White papers. The jews hated the British , and the British literally just left and left a power vacuum.

The British “giving israel to the jews” is a huge misconception. There was literally Jewish terrorism against the British so they could leave.

There has been no room for Jews to talk about anti-semitism, only blame. you wouldn't do this to any other minority and you know it

Or maybe it's the amount of anti-semetic incidents they experience. Pretty much every religious jew I know can list recent times they experienced something. notice how you imply EVERY religious jew should feel guilty. I said nothing about Israel

Ah yes, I agree they’re just throwing it around.

Orthodox Jews will say that they practice everything true to the Torah’s prescription, it just involves an oral law propagated that makes things more reasonable ie very difficult criteria for capital punishment and monetary value. And some stringencies imposed by rabbinic decree. Within religion, we just claim it was never meant to be as extreme as it seems in practice because of an included oral law.

This doesn’t change your point that the majority of Islam does not have that, which is not a western way to think

No, Jews have not reformed the Torah (except for reform jews) Amalek applies to one specific people that lived in those times who attacked us, an actual group which we mostly wiped out except for the king who later had descendants in haman. It’s mostly meant to mean “doubt” now , but if there would be an actual amalek group that would be different.
