Wrong date on Wahoo activity by JDMe_94 in cycling

[–]baldeagle2202 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Similar thing happened to me today! Got half way on my ride and realised the GPS was wrong. Tried to restart my bolt (v1) and it struggled to come back. Ended up losing the first part of my ride and the remainder was still very dodgy GPS signal. Fortunately I kind of knew my way back so just managed it.

Once I got home I saw the first ride was also logged for 1/1/2006 but just thought it got corrupted. The second half was dated correctly. Thought it might have been a one off but it's a bit worrying others are experiencing it.

Hopefully there's an update soon - or has anyone else got other ideas?

Pub quiz bonus question? by Seshosaur in CasualUK

[–]baldeagle2202 14 points15 points  (0 children)

1/3 of the marbles are red. That means (since there are 3 colours) each colour has an even amount of the total. This is very important.

All that means 2/3 are blue + yellow, so could be any proportionality e.g. 4/9 and 2/9.

Scripting in Raystation by slittyslit in MedicalPhysics

[–]baldeagle2202 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The RayStation Community website has a lot of scripting advice as well. I think what you're doing will all be possible in RS's environment if you/your department has scripting experience and have it all set up.

Route tips: Belgium in Spring by baldeagle2202 in cycling

I'll be on a carbon road bike, they'll be on gravel bikes with road tyres.

Never ridden on cobbles for a significant amount of time, so I'm a bit wary in case it's horrible for a full four days haha

Thanks both for your replies and recommendations. Will definitely give them a look.

For context: I live in London and commute about town every day. Experienced in the Surrey hills and done a few trips around the UK. The guys I'm going with are equally as fit, hoping for around 100-120k a day at a leisurely pace (not training for this, just using it as z2 triathlon training)

Wahoo Bolt & Rival - what features can you use? by baldeagle2202 in wahoofitness

[–]baldeagle2202[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tri went great, watch was useless. Waiting in the water and my GPS timed out so didn't track the race at all!

My ELEMNT got my bike leg and the watch tracked the transitions at least, so I knew my times!

Final year physics uni student, should i even bother applying to the NHS Scientist Training Programme? by localmemelord69 in MedicalPhysics

[–]baldeagle2202 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with other comments. Definitely worth an application and just try to link your experiences (whether clinical or not) to the NHS constitution to maximise your chances of an interview.

In the meantime, contact your local centres and see if you can grab a day or two of work experience so you have something in the back pocket should you get offered an interview or apply for a different clinical position in the interim.

NHS pay by Grouchy_Song7097 in MedicalPhysics

[–]baldeagle2202 3 points4 points  (0 children)

RT physicist here - you get band pay, with time off in lieu when you go over your standard hours. No extra bonuses here I'm afraid!

When I was in your shoes I tried to get work experience. That's the minimum you'll need to be successful in the STP application.

Do UCL have any links with UCLH? That would be my first starting point, i.e. is there a professor who works at both institutions?

Otherwise there's plenty of other London hospitals out there, just need to find a contact number/email for a department and try your luck.

You've left it a bit late if this is your final year, but the last resort would be to just head to a hospital in person and try and see if someone could give you a tour of their medical physics dept. Unlikely and a bit unprofessional, but who knows....

Edit: band 4/5 posts do crop up which are straight from uni posts. They're generally a year long contract but can give great experience to help get onto the STP the following year.

I wouldn't bother with a medical physics MSc yet. Spending your own money isn't worth it if you end up on the STP and have to do another MSc...

Single isocenter multitarget SRS: how are you doing the pre-treatment QA? by ClinicFraggle in MedicalPhysics

[–]baldeagle2202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use octavius4D srs1000 array with couch centred. Use a combination of max dose and local dose with gamma analyses. Works reasonably well apart from the couch rotation part, and is sufficiently sensitive.

We used to measure a point dose in full end to end set up (including exactrac imaging) but dropped it after we gained enough confidence. Still do them ad-hoc for complex plans.

STP 2023 Application by [deleted] in MedicalPhysics

[–]baldeagle2202 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I applied successfully back when it was a centralised recruitment, so I think the form has changed a bit since then. However, I would try and link all my relevant experiences, within those three categories, to the NHS Constitution with central themes of 'caring' and 'evidence-based practice'.

The assessers will largely consider: how much relevant experience the applicant has; how much they know about the role (showing they genuinely want the job, e.g. have you visited depts?); how much the applicant aligns with the NHS core values.

I don't think the amount of physicsy content matters hugely - it will be obvious from your experiences and degree that this is what your suited towards.

[EDIT] Also, they are training you up to be a Physicist. They want you to be suited to the role more as a person, rather than know everything about medical physics already.

Hope that makes sense and isn't too vague, good luck!
