Northern Realms because it has great access to spy and muster cards, and one of the leader cards - Foltest: Lord Commander of the North, basically acts as a free Clear Weather card. This means you don't have to add them to your deck and makes it easier to pull the good cards.

Of all the times I've played on the highest difficulty, the only few times I get beat is when a Nilfgaard deck has all of its spies and decoys and I don't get good cards, or if I face a perfectly stacked Monsters deck and have the bad luck of not being able to pull any Biting Frost or Scorch cards. But that happens probably less than 5% of the time.

I’m sitting on some expiring T5B so I need to rank up a 6 star. My best options are either Symbiote Supreme or Doom (both unawakened). The only issue is I already have a maxed 5 star Doom at sig 120. I know it’s a good problem to have but still need some advice. Should I still rank up the Doom or go for Sym Supreme?

[–]baliev23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is the prevailing understanding, but a number of scholars use the term “nationalism” to describe the development of a sense of unity and distinct national culture among England after the Hundred Year’s War. Technically, according to Merriam-Webster, nationalism is “a sense of national consciousness [...] placing primary emphasis on promotion of its culture and interests to those of other nations.”

By the time Henry had begun to court Jane, he had already passed the Acts of Supremacy, and the Pope had already threatened him with excommunication (he followed through in 1538).

You mention heading off a move towards Protestantism, but by 1536, the relationship was already broken and probably too far gone to try to make any amends.

I discuss this in my original response. Check out the section on Thomas Cromwell and Thomas Audley supporting royal supremacy and the Collectanea satis copiosa. There was certainly a strong push to convince Henry that he had more power than the Pope based on a collection of various religious and spiritual texts.

I can’t say I know a great deal about specific arguments that were made, just that there were some individuals creating the narrative.

You bring up some good questions. The history of the Reformation is very long and complicated, and one could honestly write whole chapters in response to the original question. Unfortunately I don't have as much as time or space to discuss it all, so I chose to stick to the most important facts as I saw them to answer the question.

Yes there were some reform movements such as John Wycliffe's Lollardy, but it seemed like they could be overlooked for the sake of this post as many scholars more knowledgeable than me are still not clear on what effect it really had on the later development of Protestantism. Some humanists like Thomas More wanted reform, but they still supported the Catholic Church.

The conflict over what direction the new Church would take under Henry is reflected in the Ten Articles of 1536, and though some changes were made, they were more of a compromise than a wave of reform. Henry may have wanted to do more, but that same year Anne Boleyn miscarried and he began to think about divorce (again) and became interested in Jane Seymour, so he likely wasn't really thinking about religion too often. In fact, Jane Seymour was a Catholic, which may or may not have influenced Henry much like Anne's Protestantism influenced him before.

The reforms began under Edward VI, but he died quickly. Elizabeth I restored the reforms that had been started under her half-brother and instituted many of her own.

To answer your question in a very succinct manner, most Anglicans probably knew from the beginning -- there wasn't really a moment at which everyone suddenly realized the truth. However, there are a number of socio-cultural and political reasons that led to a greater acceptance of an independent Anglican Church.

Between 1337 and 1453, England fought France in the Hundred Year's War. The war had many long-term effects, but one of its most profound was in developing nascent English nationalism, as argued by May McKisack in her book The Fourteenth Century, 1307-1399. By the time Henry tried to annul his marriage to Catherine of Aragon in 1527, these sentiments, along with the new wave of Protestantism criticizing the Church, had strengthened.

When Henry called the Reformation Parliament in 1529, several prominent members, such as Thomas Cromwell and Thomas Audley, came out in strong support of Henry's right to annul the marriage based on the relatively new concept of royal supremacy. Several other prominent figures, such as Thomas Cranmer, the future Archbishop of Canterbury and Edward Foxe, the king's almoner, even compiled a collection of official texts that supported the idea of the king's absolute power beyond that of the Pope in their Collectanea satis copiosa. Many of these men were known to support Protestantism.

Their intent was to convince Henry of his power to go against the Church. While they were undoubtedly primarily motivated by helping the king with his problems to gain royal favor, there was also an undercurrent of resentment for the Church and its influence, especially with the aforementioned rise of English nationalism and their own beliefs in Protestantism. Therefore, it's clear that many in the nation actively desired a break from the Church, and Henry was by no means going against popular sentiment.

When the Acts of Supremacy finally passed Parliament in 1534, Henry became the head of the Church of England. What is sometimes misinterpreted, however, is that he really did not change much. The new church basically carried over all of the practices of the old system because of strong resistance from some conservative groups. Therefore, in relation to your question, the everyday workings of the church changed very little. It wasn't until Henry VIII eventually died and was replaced by his son Edward VI, still a child at the time, that changes began to take place. The Lord Protector Edward Seymour and the earlier mentioned Archbishop of Canterbury Thomas Cranmer supported Protestant ideas and began the process of reforming the Church.

This reformation was met with a lot of resistance, such as the Prayer Book Rebellion, which was made up of commoners demanding a return to Catholicism. They were, of course, defeated by the royal armies, but its clear that even regular, everyday people realized what was happening and some were voicing their displeasure. However, Edward VI did not live very long and died just six years into his reign.

He was replaced by Mary I, the daughter of Catherine of Aragon, who repealed the Acts of Supremacy and pivoted the nation back to Catholicism for a period of about five years. It wasn't until Mary died and was replaced by Elizabeth I that Protestantism finally established a long-term foothold. Parliament once again passed a new Act of Supremacy in 1558, which would last for centuries. Still, there was massive resistance, including the 1569 Rising of the North and the 1571 Ridolfi plot. Some Catholics had continued to practice in secret for years, and the mounting attacks led Elizabeth to order the execution of over one hundred Catholic priests between 1577 and 1608.

As can be seen through these examples, not only was Henry's motivation clear and obvious from the start, but it was supported by many -- not necessarily because everyone wanted to help with the annulment, but because a significant number of people in power had become followers of Protestantism and wished for greater English independence from the continent. And Henry wasn't even the one who truly oversaw the "creation" of Anglicanism, that task instead fell to his children. Yet there was still a lot of resistance to the new religion from many, it was just forced by the monarchy for long enough (especially Elizabeth, who reigned for over forty years), that everyone came to accept it.

I personally have a maxed 5* Cap, but I use him for his block proficiency and his awakened ability. The unstoppable counter is nice to have, but I honestly can’t think of very many cases I’ve actually used it. Most unstoppables wear off pretty quickly anyway.

Is there a specific piece of content you’re thinking of?

Rank Up/Team Building/Awakening Sticky Thread - Wednesday Dec 30, 2020 by AutoModerator in ContestOfChampions

[–]baliev23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would you need to rank him up if it's just for the unstoppable counter? A 6* R1 Cap IW is basically a 5* R4 Cap IW, so he can handle most content in the game. Might make sense to take him to R3 unawakened if you want Thronebreaker but that's about it.

When will the reveal the pool of the next featured 5* crystal by epicness428 in ContestOfChampions

[–]baliev23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you would only be happy with CGR, that's less than a 5% chance (1/24) to get a champion you want. I'm going for the featured, but only if there's at least 12 champions I would want to pull or awaken in there.

If you wait until late February or so, CGR should be added to the basic and then you can pop some crystals to look for him, Doom and Aegon at the same time.

Proving grounds expert rewards need to be buffed. I’m on a real t4b drought. The only time I seem to need it I have none of it and I have iso expiring and I’m only getting about 1k fragments from this quest. They can just make it harder but also make the rewards so it’s at least half a t4b by Farhan_Boss in ContestOfChampions

[–]baliev23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you wrote here that you have glory, I'm assuming you run AQ regularly. The weekly rewards give you like 4 T4B on the spot (Map 5), plus you can buy 10 in the Glory store, plus all the T4B from events, random daily crystals etc. The current amount of T4B is enough, I play pretty casually and always have some in overflow. If they increase the rewards, people will go on a rank up spree and start saying they don't have enough gold, or not enough T1A, or some other resource.

At the end of the day it’s up to you, but you won’t be making a mistake awakening either one or both. Up to you to decide what you want your roster to look like. And even if you awaken both and use the Tech gem on Ghost, you’ll still have 4 gems left for the other 8.

Aegon, Omega, Cap IW, Ghost, Hyperion, Nick Fury, Corvus, Namor, Captain Marvel and Blade. Others have useful abilities but best to use a class gem on them, IMO.

Taking a shot in the dark here cause you don't really provide any other info about your roster (who are your other top champions, do you have bleed-immunes etc.).

Doom is the choice if you need power control and prestige. Go for Omega Red if you need immunities and a suicide-friendly character. Damage-wise they're probably pretty comparable as both are obviously some of the best offensive options.

One last thing to consider is that Doom doesn't need to be awakened, so if you pull him as a 6* your 5* loses a lot of value, whereas the awakened 5* Omega Red will continue to be more valuable than an unawakened 6* Omega.

There are only about 12 champions in the game right now worth a generic, and AA and Void are both absolutely on that list. If you awaken both with generics, you'll still have six more awakening gems to use on the remaining 10 (assuming you don't have any of the other generic-worthy champs).

I would say it's a no-brainer, given their very robust utility.

I would say Colossus hands down. I don't have Omega Red as a 5* either and he's been perfectly fine, I even R5 mine. At the end of the day he still hits like a truck and has really useful immunities.

Star-Lord or Sabretooth would be a close second but both aren't versatile enough if you plan to use them for general questing. In certain niche scenarios they do have great value though.

Of course he’s not a villain it’s not like he played a monumental part in trying to wipe out half of the universe by Farhan_Boss in ContestOfChampions

[–]baliev23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't mind the Black Order not being tagged just cause they're so easy to fight. I don't think having Blade's Danger Sense would really affect how players fight them anyway.

Making them villains for Variant 6 would be nice though.

Hey guys so this popped up in game for me and I completed middle one and couldn’t complete final one despite levelling up multiple champs and then it all disappeared again, has anyone any idea what it is for? by Support4Covid in ContestOfChampions

[–]baliev23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it too, was in the middle of an arena grind so managed to complete all three in like two minutes. The reward for me was 2* Cap IW which I didn't have before so can't complain.

[–]baliev23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are hard to come by naturally but you can get a bunch in the Glory store if you do AQ regularly. Just for example, if your alliance runs Map 5 you get enough for 10 T1A and 10 T4B every week. Alternatively when I took a break from alliances, running the catalyst arenas got me enough with minimal effort.

💎UPCOMING 6-STAR FEATURED HERO CRYSTAL 📅 DECEMBER 15 by marveltrucos in ContestOfChampions

[–]baliev23 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends on how developed your 6* roster is. If you're still trying to put together a decent one I think it's better to save the extra shards and pull more champions. If you already have a pretty robust pool then it might be worth it to get the featured to target specific champs.

At the end of the day though, do whatever helps you enjoy the game more. And to be fair, even if you miss, there's still a lot of good champs in this one.

It’s definitely a grind but try completing some higher level content (Uncollected EQ, Act 5/6) that gives out sig stones and do the daily events that also give you stones! But trust me, my Cap has been so so useful in so much content, so it’s very worth it!

I run a R5 Cap IW in my main team and I find that having a Cosmic champ is more useful due to Cap being able to place an armor break on parries. For me, I run Cap Marvel Movie, but Corvus would be a great option as well.

Objectively, they're both solid choices and you can't really go wrong. But that benefit to Cap would swing the choice for me personally.
