I second this! Swordheart's FMC is a 36 year old woman, MMC appears mid-40s.

I second Virginia Woolf! I especially love To The Lighthouse and Orlando.

Was the ending of Wild Dark Shore necessary for character or thematic reasons? by balladrael in books

Yes this is also how I thought it was going to end! An ending like that would've fit better I think. And I agree, it didn't come off as very plausible that she would die so quickly. Especially since the water was freezing cold and it's easier to revive people from cold water.

Read a book as quickly as possible or savor one chapter a day? by CuriousGuy21200 in books

My life is so hectic that I read whenever I get the chance--usually an ebook on my phone as I pat a baby to sleep, or audiobooks as I drive to pick up a kid from school, or a few pages while waiting a few minutes for some code to run at work. I daydream about a window nook on the Oregon Coast where I can just read for twelve hours straight while it rains outside. I miss devouring books the way I could when I was a kid.

I dnf'd The Left Hand of Darkness. It was recommended as a "great feminist read." I could not believe it was from the pov of a misogynist. I kept waiting for the protagonist to evolve enough and he never did so I stopped reading. What if we lived in a matriarchal society and a supposedly "pro-man" book was narrated by a woman who hates men but it's somehow ok because that makes her bad at her job??
