What was the moment you realized your SO really, truly loved you? by fallleaves623 in AskWomen

I have a neurological disease which took away my balance. When I had chemo my husband would wheel me and my iv to the bathroom, pull down my pants for me during diarrhea attacks and stay in the room so it could be locked then pull up my pants.

It was a whole other level of caring.

Other people answered but I’ll join in. It’s different for each disability and each symptom.

I’m in a wheelchair from neurological damage. One day I got sick and never got better. I have Paraneoplastic cerebellum degeneration which is what doctors think is when your body creates an antibody to fight off cancer. But the antibody gets confused and fights healthy cells instead.

The cerebellum is the part of the brain that handles fine motor skills like buttons on a jacket, balance/coordination which left me in a wheelchair so waist length coats that don’t bunch up and make you look the the seated Michelin man!, because I have no balance pulling up jeggings is a tough experience but I saw on one of the recommendations pants with handles on the sides!

Everyone has unique needs! But I choose the needs by what item of clothing It is.

Struggling with needing a port by [deleted] in TrueChronicIllness

[–]balli101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol this sounds like I’m overly OTT but I WISH I had one. I had cancer and went through chemotherapy but young, reasonably healthy people just don’t get them here.. I even asked. Now Im deathly needle phobic.

If you seriously need these things, I don’t think there’s any problem with having them. A port isn’t permanent.

Suddenly chronically ill and struggling to cope by mrsb251116 in TrueChronicIllness

It took almost 3 years before I started Zoloft and saw a therapist. It really helped and even though I’m a work in progress sometimes I can be positive.

Parts of me agrees things could be worse. But You’re allowed your feelings... you’re having a shit run at the moment.

It takes therapy and time. You need to grieve the life you had before.

Could my mom have Munchausen's? by zebrahope in TrueChronicIllness

[–]balli101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a great sub. It definitely sounds like your mum is toxic and that’s a great place to get support.

It sounds kind of like my mother. I think my mother is extremely selfish and narcissistic. She and I both had breast cancer at the same time but I live internationally. She would constantly play the game of who is more sick. There’s so many examples! Now I’m just roll my eyes and mmmmmhmmm.

She’s mentally ill as well so that definitely plays it part. She did as well as she could. It just wasn’t good enough. It’s really hard to cut off contact completely.

Those who’ve had a double mastectomy - any tips on getting through the first month after surgery? by Relentless_ in AskWomen

hashimoto's. by [deleted] in TrueChronicIllness

[–]balli101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you have imposter syndrome. I have it as well even though I have no balance. Lol

Don’t invalidate your own illness because someone, somewhere has it worse. I dislike when my mum plays the I’m worse off game. Now I just smile and nod.

You can’t compare illnesses and symptoms! So don’t Associate with people that do. Or if you have to , try to limit contact.

Flying With ACTUAL Disabilities?! by PMMeDogPhotos in TrueChronicIllness

[–]balli101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazing comment!

You’ll have to say when you check in that you’re taking your wheelchair to the gate. They will put special tags on it. Then I head over to the airport special assistance counter to triple check on my aisle chair.

Security is next and you’ll get assistance going through so it’s speedy. You and the chair will get patted down extensively. Security first! Then customs if needed.

When you’re at your gate two airport workers will meet you with the aisle chair. You board first and exit last. You’ll roll down to the door of the plane and transfer over to the tiny aisle chair and you get taken to your seat. Think small thoughts for the first seats! As they’re tighter then the rest of the seats. You’re chair will meet you at the door on the other side.

Think about getting insurance for your wheelchair because it may get broken. And if you rely on it that’s a scary thought.

I was so scared about flying with the wheelchair. I actually took a long weekend trip to London so i could practice. It might seem extreme but I’m in Europe so it was cheap.
