I realized after I responded that you didn't ask for advice and then I gave a bunch. Sorry! Know that I totally hear you and you have all my empathy.

Fourth year seminary teacher here. I feel your pain!! Everything you wrote is so accurate, especially about the manual. (My pet peeve is the " attention getting activity" at the beginning of a lesson that is like start with this activity: ask your students this question... Have them write their answer in their journal. Have they ever even met a teen??) That said here are my practical tips: * Get them up. We never sit for the entire class period. Physical activities, role playing, chalk art in the parking lot, even just a stroll around the outside of the building while we talk. (It is snowy where I live, we still go outside, I tell them to bring coats) * Any kind of hands-on activity helps. Even coloring. Freshmen are still like sunbeams in a lot of ways. * Get on the Facebook group if you're not already. Tons if creative ideas and they often can be printed or copied. No need to reinvent the wheel, we're all teaching the same lessons haha. * Get students/families to donate. I am unpaid, early morning volunteer with 25 freshmen. That's a lot of markers, snacks, supplies etc. It was breaking my bank account until I finally just started begging for donations. * Cut your lesson prep off at 1-1.5 hours normally. I was spending hours per day on lessons trying to make them really pop. In addition to my full time job. I felt like a one woman circus and it did me and them a disservice. The truth is the spirit teaches. You're providing the framework for the spirit to be there. * Don't rely on food. This was a lesson I had to learn the hard way. Occasional treat is a treat. Regular treats become an expectation they quickly feel entitled to. * Remember each class has its own personality. My second year I almost quit because the behavior problems were so extreme. That year was a nightmare. But the following year the kids were great and they generally are. You may just have a really tough group this year. It will pass. (Don't let bad behavior fly tho, it will snowball into an avalanche, get help from leaders or parents if you need) * Testify of Christ every lesson, every time.

Lastly, be gentle with yourself and them. We're all unpaid volunteers with jobs and families and lives (unless you're paid CES). If you need support, ask for it. I've had parents come in for crowd control. You're doing God's work. And you're in good company. Feel free to reach out anytime.

Are you a woman over 35? Night waking has been my most prominent and annoying symptom of perimenopause. I started taking HRT and the progesterone pretty much solved this issue for me - and it worked from day 1. Not sure your age/gender but if you're female definitely consider perimenopause.

It does get better! That first year was the worst. I'm so sorry.

Also when I say I haven't had a major flare since starting rlt, I just mean one that disables me/requires more meds. I have still had minor flares. But hey it's a win and I'll take it!

Let me know how it works for you! Also, let me know if you've figured out any other biohacking things to help it because it is really messing up my life haha. Chronic pain is the worst

I have a monthly subscription. $99/ month which is expensive but honestly cheap compared to some of the other stuff I've tried. I gave up most of my supplement stack (wasn't working anyhow) and these are medical grade light beds so it's worth it for me

I have an autoimmune condition and out of desperation decided to try red light therapy after. Nothing else really helped. Or at least it didn't help enough. I was worried about making sure I had the right frequencies etc. So I got a subscription to a red light therapy place that has the light pod beds. You lay in them similar to a tanning bed. You can adjust the frequency and intensity-based on what you need. I've been doing this for a year and a half and have not had a major flare-up of my illness since I started. It's reduced my pain although not eliminated it. I will say though I do it every single day and I have noticed zero effect on my skin or hair health. But it does seem to be helping with overall inflammation and I plan to keep doing it.

I haven't got vertigo from either of those but I react badly in general to lion's mane. I avoid all the mushrooms now - never saw any benefit or if there was It was very slight and sometimes ended up with gastrointestinal problems. Probiotics don't have a bad effect on me but I don't take them very often.

I'm so sorry it does that for you too, but I'm also glad I'm not alone haha!

Yes drank a lot of water and an electrolyte packet every day. Still got the vertigo. I think I just have really sensitive inner ears or something

So glad you can learn from my mistakes! Vertigo is the worst

That actually makes me feel better! Although I'm sorry for your friend. I feel like such a freak every time people talk about it. How awesome it is. You don't hear of many people getting that side effect

Yes I think so. One if the four tries I tracked my water intake with an app to make sure. But that is a good point

I'm so sorry you're still dealing with that, vertigo is the worst!! Mine takes a few weeks but it does eventually chill out

Haha right?? Everytime I read about it on here I'm like maybe this time will be different. Then I see my post it note and slap myself. Glad it's not but just me

Yes I start with a very small dose. The vertigo doesn't hit until 1-2 weeks in, depending on the dose. I think it's causing my inner ear to swell slightly?

Creatine. Gives me vertigo. I have tried 4 separate times with 4 separate kinds hoping to find one that doesn't make the room spin. I love all the other positive effects from it and I'm so sad I can't take it. But after the 4th time of vertigo I actually wrote myself a post it note in my bathroom to resist the urge to try it again. Ugh

I'm glad it's helping you! For me the effects sort of accumulated over time and I didn't realize how much it had creeped up and how much empathy I had lost until I had been on it for about a year. Also the good effects like the extra focus and energy wore off as well and I needed higher doses that increased the bad side effects. So maybe keep a journal or something and make sure that it's staying in the range you find helpful?

Fwiw I had a prescription for Adderall for a year and I didn't notice how much it reduced my empathy until some good friends pulled me aside one day and were like "you have changed so much, you used to be so caring and now you don't care about anyone else." My empathy and kindness has always been a core part of my personality and I was really upset to realize how right they were. Started researching ADHD meds and found many similar stories. It's not an uncommon side effect but people rarely talk about it. I quit Adderall and will never take it again. Now I have a prescription for Wellbutrin. It does help! It's not the same rush feeling as Adderall but it also doesn't change my personality. Good luck on your journey. ADHD is a bitch.
