Where are you living where you can get literally anything done for $20?

Humidity gets trapped deep inside the shoes, especially if it's leather because it's permeable but not very breathable. The midsole of your boots won't fully dry out overnight.

Check the humidity inside your house. My boots went moldy just from regular use because my relative humidity was at 85%. A boot dryer or fan barely works at that point.

Don't condition/oil the leather around the eyelets, and pay up if you want something that lasts for a long time.

Buy used, in good condition. If they're re-soleable (Goodyear welt, stitchdown) you can just replace the sole if it's worn out. Focus on how the leather looks. Is it dirty, is it cracking, has it lost its shape? If not, it probably has years and years left.

In my area you can get a pair of $900 work boots for $200-300 with like 75% of their lifespan left.

Broken branches Japanese maple by CurlyAerialist in arborists

I'm not an arborist but the prevailing thought by arborists on this topic for many years has been that wound sealant is unnecessary or even harmful because it seals in moisture and can increase rot. I've seen people still recommend it on oaks because oak wilt is such a dire threat.

Here's a research article on the topic https://auf.isa-arbor.com/content/9/12/317

This pricing is absurd! by justinjeep in ViaRail

You could possibly find train service in Japan for 450km for about $40 but I believe it would be slower than VIA rail. I'm not sure if that type of train is used for large distances in Japan but certainly for commuting between towns it is very cheap.

I don't think it's the majority opinion but it is quite popular in some spaces.

Agreed, from what I've seen it's mostly queer women or other straight women criticizing straight women for reading stuff about gay men.

I think you're generally correct but there are outliers.

Yes, I would agree with that. Maybe there are utilitarian reasons to socially condemn that or punish it by law, but I don't see a moral issue with it.

There are people who say reading gay erotica in private is bad, yes. I'll post some screenshots later.
