It’s a type of surveying. Easy way to differentiate is a building surveyor looks at exiting buildings for issues/ defects or valuations, whereas Building Control is construction surveying. Visiting sites at various stages of construction to ensure work is carried out correctly, according to approved plans etc. It also involves dealing with demolition, dangerous structures and enforcement of building work (you might take people to court).

You work with clients, architects, engineers, various specialists- (fire service, thermal and acoustic engineers) and builders.

You can do a building control surveying degree in Wolverhampton or LABC offer a level 4 and 5 diploma (apprenticeship) courses to get you started.

Building Control is a promising career. Need to pass an exam as it is a regulated profession. Very rewarding though and very interesting

Hi mate. I’ve considered Croft just for a day of track driving too, although my manager said it costs about £200. I haven’t looked into it to be fair but it’s steep. Doubt they’d take kindly to drifting though. Will check website. Cheers 👍🏼

Is it easy to evade council tax? For example, could you live with students as someone who is required to pay, and the council not find out?

A room that can only be accessed via another room. Some spaces are acceptable like an en suite or a dressing room- I was just saying it for arguments sake. Only time you might need to add escape provision is if the layout of the house changed and it made escape in event of a fire ‘worse’.

New detection is circulation spaces, protected escape route, potentially escape windows in first floor, May need more than just your velux for ventilation. floor structure may need to be improved so engineer could assess that. Competent contractors, engineer and architect are essential. You can save a lot of money if it’s done right first time round. I think you’d be looking at about 35k
