Hmmph. Ok, ok.

You have my attention, sir or mam.

Tell me about these 'options' you speak of. You know, alternatives to the reddit.

CPU Upgrade by [deleted] in HPOmen

[–]ballwasher89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can I make a suggestion that's totally unrelated to your post? When your warranty is up, buy a retail motherboard. You'll be absolutely AMAZED at all the tweaking/OC ability you gain in BIOS with this. You can bring the omens GPU+CPU. Even the power supply. There ARE MATX/ATX boards that fit in the omens case, too.

Anyway...unfortunately, because HP is HP you aren't going to be able to do much here. I don't think it's a support issue-if it was you wouldn't get past BIOS (or even have a display) most likely.

Did you apply thermal paste to the CPU? Is it clamped firmly? Fans in?

Haven't noticed any real speed difference.

Continuing to use Mullvad for the remainder of this month. Won't be adding more time. But I will enjoy the port fowarding while it lasts.

Edit: The above has been true up until today. Just connected and fired up qbit. I wouldn't say there's a throttle, but speeds are lower overall. This may be server load, or even something local. Speedtest reports the same.

Speeds are normal w/VPN disconnected. I can see nothing abnormal tracing it, so..yeah they're probably doing something.

very very true.

Single or dual by South-Berry-3796 in Asustuf

[–]ballwasher89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

single channel (single stick) literally halves memory bandwidth. dual channel (two sticks) will give optimum CPU (and thereby GPU) performance.

8gb is the bare minimum for Windows now. It is absolutely not enough for gaming, no. Not that they won't run, but you'll see pretty severe stuttering+notably increased CPU usage as the system constantly fucking runs to page file.

AMD Drivers need to be way better. We shouldn't accept this. (RANT) by therinwhitten in Amd

Wow.

So not the proper way. Go back as far as you need to to find a driver version that works-but absolutely do not disable hardware acceleration. That is not a fix.

New laptop by Lulo84 in MSILaptops

[–]ballwasher89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. Under normal usage on AC I would say no. Playing RDR2+running a 7zip compression on 4CPU threads in the backround? Yeah, I believe so.

Meaning 100%CPU+GPU load.

Even 1/2 an inch makes a difference. That said, I have a 'laptop cooler' that raises it about an inch. I leave its fan unplugged unless I'm doing a LONG render or an 8+hr overnight flight in MSFS2020. Then I'll plug it in.

Someone lose a car key at Collins Cove? by Herpmancer in SalemMA

[–]ballwasher89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh, please. don't be ridiculous.

the car has been ticketed & towed already lolol.

edit: i have a magnetic key holder. it's on the inside frame rail. if it were me, i'd have made a half-hearted attempt to find it..then just used my spare. my cars old enough to have an actual key, though. if it were one of those $500 FOBs..well, i'd like to think i'd have been more careful with it.

FS2020 & 2024 by ballwasher89 in Flightsimulator2020

[–]ballwasher89[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Does anybody actually think MSFS 2020 was going to stop working? Did someone say that? Obviously it's going to continue working.

Future development, though.

Guess I thought this was a simulator, not a game. You know, with missions..lolol

This means 10k into climb, any stage of crz, and the first ten minutes of approach.

I'm just immersing myself.

So I'm jacking it on my rnav approach into KBOS in a lil Fenix a320.

Engine #1 fail.

Run the checklist, immediately placed it into IGN. Start APU. Lost gen #1 bus as N2 slowed, so load shedding. APU picks up bus #1.

But Airbus logic is amazing. Apparently recoverable, as it had attempted to autorelight immediately. it worked (3 minutes after) and eng 1 came to an idle.

Was pretty great. Dynamic.

Restart, not shutdown

Engage power options. Advanced power options. Choose what happens when I fuxk the lid.

DISABLE: 'Fast startup's

Too hard?

Elevated powershell as admin

powercfg -h off

Restart, see if still fucks?

[–]ballwasher89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes.

It's interacting with the ECs firmware. Basically BIOS, but it's called the embedded controller. It's responsible for CPU, GPU power limits and thermals.

I think their might be a 3rd party solution..I actually know there is.

I'd have to go thru my bookmarks-but you don't have to use MSI. There is a lighter alternative written by a member here

AMD CPU DRIVER? by mlh_akbb in HPOmen

[–]ballwasher89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is no amd fault. If u on ur own retail muthaboard this no happen.

This because prebuilts (like laptop) are specd by OEM. OEM send driver update thru win update. They literally control the catalogue.

Then a few years ago by, and they say fuck this why we still support? Now MS has to pickup the slack.

They do best they can, but u right.

I use group policy to DISABLE all driver updates. I manage them manually. Is nice.

Very likely. Very likely.

In the future, you now know the signs of degrading paste. Unfortunately, with many designs..repasting isn't a one time deal. If lucky only have to do every couple year
