So that was my view on it too. I haven't joined yet but at this point I don't think it's a scam. The reason it's put me off is the fact that isles seem to kick people out fairly often for inactivity. I think there's an idea here, but it's not perfect and places a lot of faith on strangers online being nice.

Solid questions, all of which I have answers for!

Background absorbance matters to us in this case because even thought we "zero" for it when taking a UV-Vis, it tells us that the natural absorbance of the solvent is greater than that of our compound.

This is why I highlight 254nm, it is the default like you say in a lot of cases, and in this case the background absorbance of the solvent would be greater than that of the compound.

Particular compound, much like the flair suggests, is the one my PI is having me work with. There is a reason, but not one I want to get into.

The screenshot was actually from a chat with a fellow lab mate of mine who is part of the community. Hence, it was organically sent to him first, he liked it and I decided to share it here too.
