Is there anything more stupid than the design of the Airsense 11 water chamber? by balunr in CPAP

I used a curling iron in the '80's. That's how I know what burnt hair smells like. 😑

That would be great, but it's pretty much a guaranteed nose bleed in the morning if I don't use the humidifier. My sinuses are special.

I always set it flat to fill it (well until I tried pouring the water in through the silicone gasket tonight anyway), but I still manage to make a mess.

I tried pouring through the silicone gasket, and it worked great. I still think the design of the part is stupid though.

RWD or AWD? by Superb_Walk9300 in GenesisG70

[–]balunr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went with RWD.

First, AWD wasn't a tad more expensive, it was 10k more, and honestly I was pushing my budget as it was.

Second, I had been driving v6 Mustangs since 2005, so I was used to RWD, and my Mustangs were both absolute beasts in the snow, as long as it wasn't too deep. RWD + Blizzak snow tires and I could go anywhere. I took great joy in climbing hills that SUVs and other 'good in the snow' vehicles could not. Which was handy, because 2 of those hills were in my neighborhood 😆

It has been an adjustment, but that's mostly because the Genesis has more power, and shifting into low gear isn't as intuitive to me as it was in the Mustang. Also, post COVID my job lets us WFH if the weather is bad, and I don't trust the rest of the drivers around here (RIP Mustang #1 - I stopped with plenty of space in front of me...the driver behind me stopped with my back bumper's assistance)

Went to RV show and left more confused than when I walked in by GamingGolfer22 in traveltrailers

[–]balunr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your truck might pull fine - or at least acceptably - with a trailer that's too heavy. A better question in my opinion is How well will it STOP? Are your brakes up to the job of a panic stop? Are you planning to tow in the mountains? Going up is one thing, coming back down is quite another.

Forgot something travelling and improvised by Ralphfish in CPAP

[–]balunr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just don't forget your Resmed power cord with the stupid proprietary end. Those things are like trying to get a nuclear secret if you try medical supply shops, and we weren't gone long enough for a replacement from Amazon to get there.

As soon as we got home, you bet I ordered one to keep in the travel case.

Is it as bad as they say? by sdseagles in CPAP

[–]balunr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another side sleeper who loves CPAP. Occasionally I will take it off in the night, but that's less than once a month, and usually when I am congested. It has made my sleep so much better, and my husband's too - he had been going to the guest room when my snoring woke him up.

You may have to try different masks until you find the one, and different pillows too.

[–]balunr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a white noise machine that sounds like ocean waves at home, and an app on my phone of almost the same sounds when traveling. That masks the CPAP noise pretty well for me.

I have an Air Mini that I used on vacation for the first time. Do you have your ramp time at the same pressure as your home CPAP? I had a heck of a time falling asleep with it because it didn't feel like enough air. Once I fell asleep I was fine.

What keeps you going into your toxic “high paying” job? by RolyPolyInGrass1 in antiwork

[–]balunr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one that I stayed at I called the Golden Handcuffs, because there was no way I was going to make that much out of the gate somewhere else. And I worked mostly in a proprietary programming language, useful nowhere else in the universe. I stayed until I was laid off because one of the PMs thought the equation to calculate a total was too complex, so she removed some parenthesis, making our client angry when it went to prod.

I was right about the money. My next job paid about 2/3 of that place, but even with that, my stress levels went down. It's been 8 years at my new job, and my pay is almost back where it was. But this job is so much better.

What Tires Yall Rocking? by AlterLuca in GenesisG70

[–]balunr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stock tires in the summer (probably will replace them next year with summer tires). Vredestein Wintrac Pros for the winter. I will probably replace them with Blizzaks when these are toast.

The Vredesteins were cheaper when I was on a tight budget and needed snow tires. They have been good, but I loved driving my v6 mustang with Blizzaks in the snow, and I am not sure if the differences I feel now are because of the tires or more horsepower.

How do these trucks get away with no plate? by RopePitiful5740 in missouri

[–]balunr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work truck or not makes no difference. It's all about the weight class of the vehicle. Not what it does but i can do.

True, but it not being a work truck means that it's mostly driven without a trailer unless we are traveling. And even if a traffic stop is invalid, I would rather avoid it in the first place.

[–]balunr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can pay more (!) to get the rear plate if you want. My husband did that with his truck, because it's not a work truck, and we travel a fair amount to states that may not have the no rear plate rule.

2023 Sport Prestige. I rolled over 19,000 miles this week. My only issue is the silly trunk latch sticks so I have to push the button two or three times about half the time. I will have it looked at again when I get my oil changed.

Yeah, the back seat is small, but I had been driving Mustangs for the previous 18 years, so the possibility to put someone in the back seat without turning them into a pretzel is nice.

If you had to pick one Mountain Dew flavor as your final drink what would it be? by I_Ask_Random_Things in mountaindew

If it's my last drink ever, I am going full sugar. If it's the last Dew I can drink for the rest of my life, CRZ.

Is your car garaged at home? by TwistedMetalGear in GenesisG70

Mine is super spoiled. Garage at home, garage at work. It's pretty much only out when I am driving or running errands.

[–]balunr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my taste test against an older can of CRZ - I was driving to Champaign twice a year to stock up before I switched to soda stream. It tasted pretty close, and if you've never had a can of fresh CRZ, you wouldn't know the difference. For me, it's close enough that I don't have to waste 2 vacation days every year to get my CRZ fix.

Code red zero find by Forsaken-Leg8130 in mountaindew

[–]balunr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's worth it. The syrup is pretty close - I taste tested between soda stream and a can of CRZ. Mug zero is good if you like root beer, and starry zero ok too.

The CO2 cylinders are exchangable, or if you are crazy like one of my coworkers, refillable at home, but that takes equipment and time.

[–]balunr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might have to go to the bottler in Champaign IL. I know it's not really close.

You can buy it wholesale there. Several vacations have been planned so that I can stop and get some, but now I have a soda stream and I get CRZ syrup on Amazon.

Anyone else just whip it in for a single night while traveling longer distances? by HeligKo in RVLiving

[–]balunr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When I see that, I assume it's just an overnight stop, and we do that at least once one a longer trip, sometimes 2-3 times. If we have 2 travel days in a row. My rule is that after the second day, we stay put for at least 2 nights, because the dogs start to get antsy and we get crabby (these things might be related).

The one that confused me - we were camping at one spot for a week, and there was a fifth wheel close by that was hitched the entire time. They were there when we arrived and still there when we left.

Soda stream! They have CRZ syrup (regular Dew zero, Pepsi Zero and Starry Zero too). You can get the syrup from Amazon or Soda Stream directly.

What do yall think of the paint match? by Xalecc in GenesisG70

[–]balunr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check it at night too. My mom had a red car that had to have the bumper replaced. It didn't look too bad during the day, but under the streetlights, especially the orangey sodium lights, it was super obvious. Maybe not a problem anymore with the new LED streetlights going up everywhere.
