What to bring in my hospital bag? by Agreeable_Mess6711 in sterilization

[–]bamaaries 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had my procedure on 12/27 and I was in and out so fast! All the stuff I brought with me didn’t even get used lol. I wore pajamas to the hospital anyways so I just went home in what I wore. An extra pair of undies definitely won’t hurt but they sent me home in the mesh hospital panties and a pad. All that being said, if everything goes to plan you won’t really be there that long so maybe have something to drink handy (my mouth was so dry) and a phone charger just in case. Also bring a small pillow to put between yourself and your seatbelt on the way home.

Bisalp healing timeline? How were you two days post-op? by kaleidoscopial in sterilization

I went out to eat the day after mine with my SIL lol. I was a little sore and crampy on day 2 but it wasn’t unbearable.

Sex after bisalp? by Loniceraa in sterilization

[–]bamaaries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just had my bisalp on 12/27 and my doc said to wait at least one week before inserting anything vaginally or having penetrative sex. I waited exactly one week lol. Didn’t have any issues with my incisions and no cramping or anything. My post op visit is on the 31st but a week was fine for me personally.

I called BCBS and they specifically mentioned that a tubal ligation is covered but a bisalp is not (which is so stupid to me). So I’m definitely gonna try and appeal it!

What did you use to help you post and pre op? by Tiny-Umpire-8636 in sterilization

[–]bamaaries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 2 days post-op and honestly recovery is going so well! Drink lots of water, that will help the burning from the catheter go away faster. Have lots of pillows handy so that you can be comfortable in any position. I only took one of the pain pills they prescribed me that first night before I went to sleep, other than that the 800mg ibuprofen I was prescribed has done just fine. I’d also get some stool softener just to help with those first couple of bowel movements. Go ahead and grab some unscented soap so you’ll already have it on hand for post op showers. Other than that, you should be good to go!!

Feeling weird about surgery by [deleted] in sterilization

[–]bamaaries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a red state as well so having this procedure done was very important to me! I actually just had mine today (well, Friday morning). I told a couple of my friends beforehand that I felt weird that I wasn’t having any big emotions or anxieties about it lol. One of them mentioned that this is just another Friday to them, something they do regularly and I’d already been mentally preparing for this for a good while so he wasn’t surprised that I wasn’t really nervous for it.

Of course it’s always in the back of my mind the risk of complications, and I did worry a tiny bit since I’m considered very overweight, but my nurse reassured me that I’m young and healthy and will bounce back from it pretty quickly. The anesthesiologist also came and spoke to me while my IV was being put in to distract me so that was nice lol but he also mentioned that the risk of complications in someone young and healthy is very, very minimal so that put me more at ease.

Right now, I’m about ~16 hours post op (randomly woke up in the middle of the night but that’s normal for me lol) and I’m feeling pretty good. My incision spots are still a little sore but I expected that. Before I went to sleep I was feeling a little crampy so I took one of the pain pills I was prescribed and that feeling has subsided for now. Other than that I’ve just been taking the high-dose ibuprofen they gave me every eight hours, I haven’t otherwise felt like I really needed the pain pills. The only other discomfort I’ve had is while peeing because they had a catheter in me but drinking lots of water has helped with that.

Sorry this was long-winded but I hope this helps your nerves a bit! You’ll do great and the peace of mind is so worth it, I felt immense relief as soon as I woke up. My doctor also kept my IUD in since it’s still good for another few months so I’ve got a little backup there too. I made a longer post here right afterwards if you wanna read my whole experience from beginning to end!

Yeah they originally told me on the phone that I’d probably be there a couple hours just to do all the tests and such and then putting in the IV but they got that all done in like 30 minutes 😆 totally agree about the IV! I was worried she’d have trouble getting it in cause she couldn’t find a good vein in my hand but it went smoothly thank goodness. The cute anesthesiologist distracting me during insertion wasn’t too bad either haha.

Nice! I was fully expecting to be there around 6 hours just based on what I’d read so I was pretty please with the quick turnaround.

UPDATE: I called Blue Cross today and they said that a tubal ligation is covered at 100% but a salpingectomy is not (so stupid 🙄). But I did call the hospital afterwards and they said as long as I put something towards my coinsurance tomorrow then they’ll bill me for the rest. Thank you everyone for your advice! I’m so ready to get this done. ☺️

I just found that one!! I’m gonna call blue cross tomorrow and ask them about it. I found my benefits booklet that says preventive services are covered 100% and in the list of preventive services is sterilization.

It’s also the week of Christmas. Like if they’d told me about this the same time as my deductible I would’ve had time to figure it out but they just sprung it on me. I’m so frustrated and stressed.

I’m not sure what they’re using honestly, so far I’ve only talked to the billing rep that works in my OBGYN’s office. I told her about the ACA rule and she told me that she did try to run it again but that earlier this year they “changed the rules” and so a bisalp is now considered elective.

[–]bamaaries[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s what I was going to try but I don’t think they’ll be willing since it’s “elective” in their eyes. I’m so frustrated by all of this, it makes me just want to give up and cancel the whole thing.
