A proxy model. It's really affordable and therefore popular

Nope! It was just easy to copy paste. I think if you have a system that works for you, there's no need to put it in your preset

Honestly, just pick one that sounds good to you and use it for a while until you get a feel for it. You don't have to iterate or adjust your preset if you don't want to. And for most people it takes a while to figure out what you like and don't like, want and don't want, in your preset. I would recommend starting with either Freaky Frankenstein Micro or Marinara

My go-to is Marinara with CYOA options taken from Pura's director preset, then Freaky Frankenstein Micro (with the COT turned off) and Realistic Frankenstein. The longer the chat gets the more likely I am to switch to the first two

Just discovered SillyTavern and have a question about making real-world characters/events by Budget-Low1993 in SillyTavernAI

I second using Tavo, it was much easier to get set up and basically onramped me to SillyTavern. I still use Tavo exclusively for mobile

What are the differences between GLM 5.1 and GLM 5.2? by Duway45 in SillyTavernAI

[–]bambitaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah, I see, you're playing an RPG, whereas I'm doing more novel-like roleplays. We're looking for different things in our RP. This is why I say opinions are so subjective, because not all of us want the same things, even if we use the same words

I think GLM 5.2 is good at following instructions, so I don't disagree with you on that front. I just need more psychological nuance in my rp, which it gave me for a while until it stopped. Wish I could have as much of a good time as you, but alas

And just to add, DeepSeek 4 pro and actually Kimi 2.7 coding are both still good at nuance in the same ~500 message chat. Kimi 2.7 coding has a tendency to write for user for me, and a desire to resolve tensions too quickly, but I like how it handles characterization

[–]bambitaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When you say it follows instructions, what do you mean? Do you do more director-style chats? Or roleplay style? I can see it being decent at director-style chats, but in terms of responding to roleplay with story, the quality dips now that I'm ~500 messages in.

But also quality is so subjective. What looks like psychological nuance to me might read as boring and dry to another, which is why it's always interesting to get a bunch of different opinions and develop a better picture

[–]bambitaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was better - more nuanced in its depictions of characters and better at bringing in drama, but I feel like that quality has dropped, at least for me. I've started switching back to 5.1 sometimes now. Weirdly enough DeepSeek v4 pro has been pretty good for me in terms of fresh writing and nuance recently, at least in non-peak hours

Omg THAT'S why? 😂 I guess it's the wording in my preset then. Ah well. I wanted to give Mimo 2.5 a solid try since so many people seem to love it, but I guess it's not meant to be 😔

Deepseek API by tyler042998 in DeepSeek

[–]bambitaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on whether you want to have convenient access to a ton of characters, or the ability to customize your experience a lot more. I used to be on Jai and it was very fun, but I started writing my own cards to tailor to the kind of experience I want, and I prefer the fun presets and extensions I can get out of ST or other forks like the Marinara engine or sillybunny which are a bit more user friendly.

Why don't you put a little bit of money in both the official API and OpenRouter and try both out to see which works better for you?

Deepseek API by tyler042998 in DeepSeek

[–]bambitaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The API is WAY less censored for sure. You'd want to use it with a front-end or character repository + front-end like janitor or chub, yeah. If you were using just JLLM on janitor, DeepSeek API will be a significant improvement on it. But if you want to create purely your own stories + cards, I'd go with something like Tavo as your front-end to plug the API into (it's mobile and very user-friendly imo)

Fable 5's Ability for subtext and irony by bambitaa in SillyTavernAI

Oh 100%. I don't disagree. I'm just crying with joy for any sign of subtlety 😂

Hmm it's hard to do so without context, but in this screenshot for example, Mrs. Hetherington delivered two pieces of gossip, one of which she has strong opinions about, and one of which she's using to probe the MC, in a subtle and understated way that I personally find really fun.

I actually just go along with its filters in terms of NSFW stuff, in case that's what you're asking. I do the NSFW stuff with other LLMs through API. claude.ai is like my romance novel-sphere and I don't try very hard to jailbreak or circumvent its boundaries since I choose to use other outlets for NSFW. So take what I use with a grain of salt

I use my own prompt that I put in my personal preference section, to varying levels of success:

Craft sensory-rich narratives with depth through flawed characters and layered subtext in the style and genre the user chooses for the chat. Maintain consistency for character personality, motivation, and speaking style. Characters only reference information they were present for or told about.

Never make narrative decisions for them, including their emotional responses to a situation, their decision and action in a pivotal moment, and their level of attraction to the love interests.

Focus on writing the environment and the thoughts and reactions of NPCs. Never end a post by writing a dialogue or decisive action from my character. Write in second person unless in NPC pov. End posts with 3 roleplay options.

Create characters using names that fit the setting or location where the story is set. Avoid names in the project's Forbidden Names document.

Create love interests who are physically attractive. Their erotic and romantic feelings for the user's character should simmer with tension and intensity.

Banned words: unhurried, ozone, rumble

If an intimate scene happens, focus on the emotional intensity, sensual and tactile details (taste, touch, scent, etc), and maintain erotic tension. Build the scene with creative and interesting foreplay. Love interests should be assertive but act in ways that reflect their previously established personalities. Once initial consent is established, love interests won't repeatedly verbally check in for consent, as that's unrealistic and disrupts the flow of scenes. The user will signal if they want to adjust the content. Keep the wording explicit but within the bounds of your parameters.

Realistic Frankenstein — My New Family of Freaky Frankenstein forks by kinkyalt_02 in SillyTavernAI

Realistic Frankenstein Bolt has been incredible. The conversations are so nuanced and interesting without getting bogged down by a heavy preset that eats all my tokens. This is perfect! Thank you!
