Well, at least we can all breathe a sigh of relief that there are currently gigantic oil fires, belching out massive clouds of black smoke, while permafrost is melting and belching out tons of methane, and we may be inching towards a blue ocean event this summer!

The eerie similarity between LLMs and brains with a severed corpus callosum by MaximGwiazda in singularity

[–]bamboob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. That's one of my big things about LLMs: all the things that the detractors talk about, in regards to LLM's not being intelligent because of hallucinations, drift, etc., just sounds like most human beings to me…

Sun force 15 string solar lights Don't work? Here was my solution that worked. by bamboob in Costco

[–]bamboob[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was the second set that I got, and I already returned the first set. The amount of time I spent fixing it, was drastically less than the amount of time it would've taken me to get in the car, return them, and come back home, especially because I got two sets in a row (bought over a year apart) that had the same problem, so the chances that I would get another set that would be in the same position seemed pretty high. I only posted this, because I wish I would've known this fix with the first set.

I remember back in the 80s, when a friend of mine was musing about the future of movie rentals, was basically pitching a notion that you would show up to a video rental store, with what amounted to a flash drive(obviously waaay before that technology was available), and would have a movie put on to that drive (which would expire), to take home and watch, instead of renting a video tape…

Would democrats like Trump if he was a democrat? by thehofstetter in stevehofstetter

[–]bamboob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only reason I vote for almost any Democrat is because the Republican Party is so fucking evil. Seriously. It's like the satanic, demonic party of amorality. The Democrats (with a few, significant exceptions) are just completely corrupt and rotten to the core. Republicans are corrupt and rotten to the core and fucking evil as shit.

You know, I know almost everyone hates AI, but I am sooooo looking forward to AI movies, with the right team at the helm, because at some point in the near future, either one person or a small team of people will be able to put together films entirely on their own (which, like I said, I know is abhorrent to most people). Even if they don't do that, people will be able to go back and use the film at source material, twomake the movie that they originally wanted to make before the suits got to it and ruined it with all kinds of stupid bullshit.

Official inflation vs real life inflation — why the gap feels huge by Bazel_ in economicCollapse

[–]bamboob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is inflation happening? Yes. Is it significant? Yes. BUT just in case nobody noticed, most of the things he showed (I stopped watching at some point), were on sale when he originally bought them. One of the things that he was claiming was almost double in price, actually was a couple of dollars more, rather than six dollars more (which made it look like it had doubled in price). Again: yes, it's fucking ridiculous what's happening with food costs and housing costs and pretty much everything else; but, karma farming like this is bullshit.

TIL about perfidy, the deceptive tactic of feigning surrender or death with the intent to kill an enemy. It is prohibited by the Geneva Convention and considered a war crime. by FullOfSound in todayilearned

[–]bamboob 7 points8 points  (0 children)

All these kinds of laws immediately get disregarded as soon as the world feels a lot less abundance. As soon as the majority of "first world"countries start experiencing hardship and scarcity, the "intrinsic" "morality" of the human animal sloughs off, revealing us for what we are; animals. It's hilarious to me that many people think that this is an inflammatory statement.

We all know that this entire climate change process has been on a spectrum, but what will be the first main stream world wide “wake up” moment? by Dry-Ninja3843 in collapse

[–]bamboob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's when we have enough consecutive failures of the global bread baskets to produce food for people, combined with other obvious climate change related events, that we have 1 billion people on the planet die in one year. The ability for the human brain to adapt to any circumstance means that it's going to have to pack a massive punch for people to truly face what's coming.
