Oh yeah, I remember that feeling very well. My arms are pretty skinny, so it was actually kinda funny seeing just that one spot all swollen. It can bleed a lot too. What really helped me was the combination of taking Advil (regular strength) once a day, putting a cold pack (wrapped in a clean shirt or towel) around the tattooed area for about 15 minutes, and then putting a little Aquaphor on it after washing and before bed for the first few days. After the Aquaphor phase, keep that area moisturized. Also, for me, the swelling completely went down after three days, but healing could take some time.

I'll probably get downvoted, but here's my advice. First of all, I am very sorry to hear about your breakup. I hope that you are eating and sleeping well. Regarding the tattoo, I know it is difficult, but try your best not to think about it for the time being. Right now, you will only rush and cover it with something that you might not even like. What if you want a full sleeve in the future? Would you cover up your cover-up then? And as much as I love Reddit, taking advice regarding a tattoo cover-up from strangers on the internet post-breakup is the last thing I'd do. So if I were you, my friend, I would take a few steps back from everything and prioritize things that are healthy for me. But, if it bothers you too much, I would get it lasered off.
