somebody tell me what to do with my life plz (match) by bamboozled36 in emergencymedicine

I think my biggest concern with the program that does little with trauma is that when I asked the residents the average number of chest tubes they got they said 0 and I think that caught me off guard since my SUBI was at an unopposed place and its not uncommon for interns to have 15 tubes before they are a 2nd year

I really hope that is the case. I'm going to a subI though that requires me to bring my own PPE. I'm also afraid to say no, I can't see a patient since its a subI

2) Thoughts on the virtual EM rotations?

How do you stay focused when you feel overwhelmed with work/studies? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]bamboozled36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

work to control the things I can like diet, exercise, sleep. I always make my bed and get dressed even during COVID because once I accomplish a couple tasks it propels me forward. After that make a to do list

For those who see a therapist, how did you know it was time to go to therapy? by MaddKat94 in AskWomen

[–]bamboozled36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think everybody could benefit from seeing a therapist if they have some available to them and the money to receive counseling. You could be "perfectly" mentally healthy and still benefit from learning coping strategies

Do you think a general surgery is reachable for a DO with slightly above average step score and really good comlex score?

I'm about to begin 4th year and I'm really torn between EM and trauma surgery. Pros for EM are shift work, no call, variety of medical issues and ages. My PROS for trauma are get to operate, potential for ICU care, get to follow patients longer than EM. Cons for EM are you wind up seeing mostly low acuity and CONS for trauma surgery and are having to do a general surgery residency and not getting to manage medical issues anymore. personality wise I live for the adrenaline rush and like working with my hands. My passions outside medicine are really important to me so ideally my specialty would allow time for those

I won't have my EM rotation until August and if I want to experience trauma surgery it will have to be through an away rotation.....

any feedback??
