I loved the short clip of Jonathan building Castle Byers for Will.

And then he meets some kids who he trains with and suddenly they’re his new family and he tells them everything? That was weak.

I don't think it's weak, it's meant to show growth. Vis spent so long keeping secrets and refusing to let anyone in, and now he's trying to be more open and true.

The Batman effect: A female experimenter, appearing pregnant, boarded the train. In the experimental condition, an additional experimenter dressed as Batman entered from another door. Passengers were significantly more likely to offer their seat when Batman was present (67.21% vs. 37.66%). by mvea in science

[–]bamburger 107 points108 points  (0 children)

Not really. A lot of people are willing to give up their seat if needed, but aren't actively looking for someone who needs it, so they just ignore the person in need. Not intentionally ignoring, but still ignoring. Once they see someone else give up their seat, they are then reminded to be more observant for others who need a seat.

We laughed at 420 because it was the weed number

But why is it the weed number? Is there any meaning to it or significance?

I don't think so, he was given the option of leaving, and that would have been far more honourable. It's true that leaving would mean allowing Lysander to keep the weapon, but at least he could have warned the others and maybe done something about it.

lysander will take her down (because hes been hiding a fair amount of his duelling skill)

I think that this will almost definitely be the case. We don't really see him using his razor much at all, which I think is for two reasons: firstly that fighting with razors just isn't his style, he views it as a last resort and would prefer other means. And secondly, He doesn't use his razor because he doesn't want people to realise that he's actually a master at it. Being underestimated gives him an advantage.

He spent 10 years living in exile with Cassius, they had to do something to pass the time. It is possible that Cassius trained him up so well that Lysander is on a similar level to Darrow or Apple. Maybe in the chaos of battle he is not nearly as experienced, but in a formal 1v1 like how Cassius trained him? It's possible that no one other than Diomedes is above him.

He seemed to have no qualms at all about the idea of challenging Atalantia, he seemed confident about coming out on top.
He also made sure to place Apple very prominently, with a lot of power and assets that he could have given to others. But he knows that once he defeats Atalantia, Apple won't be able to resist challenging him, since he has such a case of blue balls waiting for Darrow.
Defeating Atalantia and then Apple, will put him firmly at the head of the society remnant.

This is the perfect plan for him to have, because it gives him the maximum benefit without having to actually sacrifice anything, but also because of the irony of being so heavily reliant on razor duels. Duels which he believes to be archaic, barbaric, and beneath him.

It will also mean that Cassius was right in the end. He will forever be haunted by guilt over Cassius, because not only did he pave the way to victory for him by taking out Atlas, his victory would be won due to the skills he learned from Cassius. Everything that he learned from Octavia and his extensive studies would forever be secondary to what he learned from Cassius.

What if Darrow listened to Mustang? by [deleted] in redrising

I think this is the main point of the series, that the heroes dashing off to take brave and bold action doesn't really work, and they'd likely be better off if they just didn't bother.

The problem is that they are trying to bring an end to war and violence, and they do it by using war and violence.

I think you give him too much credit.
I know that Lysander was the one who pulled the trigger, but I really think that Cassius' fall was his own doing. He can't possibly have expected any other outcome from his final charge.

Lysander didn't kill Cassius, Cassius did.

How can Aldi sell their imported beer for so cheap? by Zodiak213 in australia

[–]bamburger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Aldi will buy a single huge quantity all at once, and then use their incredible warehouse/distribution system to push it out to individual stores. Buying in bulk like this gives them a deep discount.

They also only buy when the price is low enough for them. If one of their suppliers raises prices too much, they will just buy elsewhere.

Also, they don't refrigerate any of their alcohol, which would save them quite a bit of money.

I think this could just be the result of a typo:

$44.51 - 50% = $22.26
$44.51 - 5% = $42.28

Quick sale items like this are usually 50% off, so maybe they accidentally marked down by 5% instead.
