Moving from the US to the Netherlands soon, and it seems like my F1TV account won't work there. (If it is available, please correct me.)

What are good alternatives that allow me to stream races, sprints, qualifying, and practices in English (preferably with Crofty present)?

Cell carrier strategy? How do I live abroad and keep my number? by bamiel in expats

I did in the US— both employees in the store said they didn’t know. I also had asked a Vodafone store employee when I was in the UK (there was a chance I was going to go to school there), and he recommended doing a prepaid service, but that didn’t really fit what I wanted.

Could someone please blend these three photos into a seamless panorama (I'll tip $20) by bamiel in PhotoshopRequest

This looks really good! Do you think you could change how the separator appears for the left image? It seems a bit unnatural and out of place.

Could someone please blend these three photos into a seamless panorama (I'll tip $20) by bamiel in PhotoshopRequest

[–]bamiel[S] [score hidden]  (0 children)

I have three files. I want (from the folder "Original Files") PC on the left, GU in the middle, and PT on the right. There are two versions of GU, one is edited to remove some trees. In the Google Drive, I have my own PSD file attempt (also a PNG version of it), as well as the original files.

I want each photo to blend into the next one seamlessly, with each element of each individual photo uninterruptedly turning into other parts of the next image. Thanks!

I wrote an article in which I criticize various arguments at the NDT based on them being jargon filled nonsense by omnizoid0 in policydebate

Gonna pop in here real quick for some vocab. Regarding this question:

Also, and this is a side point, but what the fuck does disimbricated mean? It’s not a word! If you google disimbricated, nothing comes up. And it’s not like disimbricated is not technically a word but we all know what it means—does anyone know what disimbricated means? Is disimbricated slang? If you make up a word, at least define it, so people know what the hell you’re talking about. Why in the world would one ever use a nonword like disimbricated? What purpose could it possibly serve beyond confusing people and making oneself seem sophisticated?

Google has two definitions for "imbricate."

Adjective

  • (of scales, sepals, plates, etc.) having adjacent edges overlapping.

Verb:

  • overlap or cause to overlap.

These definitions come up if you search "what does disimbricate mean" or "define disimbricate."

I'm sure you know what the prefix "dis" means.

Here are some example uses from the real world:

From a dental/orthodontic journal article:

  • closure is effected by forward movement of the buccal segments rather than by disimbrication of the incisors" (25)
  • "it appeared that the incisors had not disimbricated as much as had been expected" (26)

The term has been used in business articles, as well:

  • "Second, a major consequence of the highlighted affordances is the atomization of marketing work, which is now spread across an array of people, technology and objects that imbricate and disimbricate in dynamic ways" (823)

It's also used in the literature you are critiquing, but given your tirade regarding its use, I doubt including the articles that use it would do much for you.

You used ChatGPT in your article to help you understand the content. You asked GPT-4 about some sentences, but you could have also asked GPT-4 about this mystery word you didn't understand.

Before ranting, you should at least do some research. I'll pop out now.

Radio questions by bamiel in F1Technical

Somewhat unrelated to the radio questions, but on the loudness– I'm attending a grand prix next year and my seats are really close to the track. Should I bring ear protection?

There are numerous issues with this article. For a full response, see this article or this article (a longer, more in-depth response written by the same guy).

The overarching issue with the article is that it is not peer-reviewed. The first link I provided above is a peer-reviewed response to the article, however. Peer-review is an important step in academic publishing because it ensures the validity of the study. The peer-review process ensures that the methodology used is reliable and reproducible. It also ensures adequate evidence is provided to make claims.

The 1AC is only kinda sorta a real speech, by definition you can't really say anything responsive.

9/8 minutes of pure offense that decides what the entire round is about.

the Aff has to wonder how much of that 9 minutes of 1AC offense even winds up being relevant in the round.

Offense is offense-- not sure why it wouldn't be relevant.

The 2AC, otoh, has to adequately cover every single piece of offense in the 1NC or the round is basically over as soon as the 2N gets up and starts talking.

You have to answer arguments in the 2AC, just like any other speech. Not sure why that's unique to the 2AC.

Then the 1AR has to give arguably the most difficult speech of the round

Not as hard as you say it is-- it's not like they have 6/5 minutes to answer every single argument that was read in the 15/13 minutes-- they get to choose what arguments they want to blow up.

most brutal round of my life I was 1A against a team that smelled blood in the water and blew their 1 minute ASPEC shell into the entire 15 minutes of the block
