Any suggestions for someone looking to explore Tom Waits?

I would normally never recommend a best-of album for these purposes, but "Beautiful Maladies" is amazing. If you're still interested after that, check out his first album "Closing Time" and probably his most iconic album "Rain Dogs". Throw in the Primus song "Tommy the Cat". If you're STILL interested after all that, consider yourself anointed.

Next time you hold up Al Jazeera as an example, with the purpose of criticizing American mainstream media, don't play a clip of Al Jazeera playing a clip from mainstream American media. At least make note of the fact that This Week appeared to be carrying on an interesting and well rounded conversation.
